At the moment, I just have one DS418 that I keep in my room next to my PC that I have turn off each evening at 11pm and on again in the morning at 7am using it's Power Schedule allowing me to sleep. Currently, use it to store my Photography and Videograohy but understand a backup is needed just incase. Will contact my friend in swizerland who also uses a NAS and see if we can share files together to backup

Hey Jimmy, love your video, just an idea regarding the fire harzard prevention. Maybe place the whole NAS underground and add some monitoring system to cut the wire and shut it off and block it underground with fire resistent cover. It wound't be cheap and a lot of DIY too maybe. However, someone might have thought of the same idea.

Anyway who charged the Apple Pencil by attaching it to the iPad? You can’t just go around with this long stick attached to the iPad. I had the previous gen and I bought the adaptor anyway. This way I can charge the pencil via a normal charger

I've tried a ton of Macbooks over the years and realized that I don't need any accessories. I do have an external monitor and use a USB-C cable for it, but it won't charge a 16" MBP, so I use my charger for it. Also, I've tried the MX series of peripherals, including the MX Master 3/3S and MX Keys (Full and mini), and MX mechanical. All keyboards require an adjustment period and there is a high change that you will loose productivity because of the uncomfortable keyboard. And I stopped using hubs. Transfering files via AirDrop or the cloud is simple, making time machine backups with a USB-C cable connected to a harddrive is more than enough. It all comes down to personal preferences :)

I can absolutely make this my go-to home computer. I’m thinking of trading my M1 Macbook pro for this. I use external webcam for video conferencing and calls. Much better than any built-in webcam apple makes. I use an external microphone for the same thing and occasional music creation. I use a DAC to listen to music with USB ports. I use so many ports and just chill at my desk. I miss that big screen desktop life. I use my iPad Pro for commuting to and from work around town or traveling for work anyways. And the 5G UC is so great and fast. Desktop life is calling me back. And it’s been a while.

The amount of monitors the Max chips supports is a big variable I probably do not need all of the power of the Max chip, but I do need the ability to have 3 5k monitors and YES I have 2 studio displays and a 27" LG UltraFine 5k monitor. I m a software engineer who's had a 5k iMac and an Lg5k monitor for 5-6 years now and I am used to it, so moving to 3 screens lol

This is really just an external HDD. The device really cannot affordably offer much storage.

I advise any homelabber on western continents to avoid any tech stuff, especially when it comes to datastorage, manufactured by any company with the mother company being chinese. Your data simply is not safe, especially when you connect it to internet. (No pun intended to the creator of this video as it is a good video with tons of information)

I'm quite confused between the 13" M2 air with 16gigs or the M3 Pro mbp. ~2200 for the pro and ~1500 for the air where I live. I am someone who works on AI and trains models. I have been getting by just fine with a 10th gen Intel i7 H series processor with 16gigs of ram, though it has started to get slow and be a bottleneck. I usually have a lot of tabs open and multiple editors, some that are connected to VMs. I am pushing my current machine to 100% ram and cpu very often. I would soon be joining a tech focused masters. Although I can spend the 2200, it is no doubt going to be a huge dent on my pocket. Even the air is quite expensive, but I am fine with that much. I'd probably be using this machine for a good part of the next 4-5 years. Does it make sense to save on the cash and go with the Air, I am willing to manage the occasional hiccups. Or does the pro seem like that much better an investment being about 50% more expensive? TYIA.

I love mine , Its just my couch device , my main computer is my MacBook Air M3 but they are synced together that is really nice.
