Just bought a steam deck OLED. I am not super committed to gaming yet, but wanted to try some games I’ve always wanted to play or have played before. I’ve had friends that owned consoles but I never have myself, so this will be my first and standalone. I do realize it may not be enough storage especially if I get a bunch of games like bg3, but I might upgrade to a terabyte and put it in myself. Since I’m not super committed to gaming, but just want to do a little…I hope it wasn’t a mistake.

I tried upgrading my laptop ram to 32GB and unfortunalty the videos on youtube didn't fully cover the tricks and ended up screwing both my ROG Ally and my Flow x13 laptop. Very sadly scratch the pads underneath of the ram chips and screwed up the MB. if you are trying to upgrade please verify your capabilities as it is a very sensitive process and you may end up in full dissapointment like I did.

Thinking about getting into gaming, but I only have a laptop. I don’t even have a tv. I want to keep my life minimalistic and I don’t have any ambitions in gaming. I just want something I can play Skyrim, BG3, and maybe a couple other games on. I don’t want to waste a ton of of money on a system or thousands on a computer. But I’d be willing to put in a little less than $1,000 to the hobby.

Complete lie in the battery life section - ROG ally has lower battery life than Legion Go, proven by multiple other testers.

I made almost an identical build concept last year. Same case but black, Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon 6600 (don't mind upscaling games on my TV), 980 Pro 2TB, etc. I installed ChimeraOS on it as it at least then seemed to be the best SteamOS like distro for HTPC use. Works like a charm. I have to sell it before it's worth nothing, but talk about a specific case use scenario machine. ChimeraOS was amazing too. FSR on everything machine wide if needed, individual settings for setups unncessary, etc. Great video.

Steam OS is a public based Linux Kernel. I haven’t done it but I bet you could put it on another handheld if you wanted to. Again, haven’t done this or researched it but seems totally possible.

Soon, they will make a Playstation that works as a gaming handheld console and not run Windows or Linux. And it will be backwards compatible from PS to PS5. I'm calling it now.

you should try comparing the 512gb and 1t b of storage, thats if it's even possible for you within your budget, I'm curious about buying one myself but with like lots of storage personally for me

I'm looking to build my wife a sffpc basically for work (MS office, Internet, nothing gaming) and am looking at a MB (Asus z790) and CPU (14900k) with 64 or 96gb ram and want it to handle 2 4k monitor w/out a GPU. All air-cooled with the Noctua NH-L12S. Building this all inside the Fractal Design Ridge case. What do you think of this (pro/con) and what case, CPU and MB would you recommend? Thank you.

Please could you consider testing Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West? HZD usually has good framerates but then it also loves to get stuttery and I wonder if this fixes it. I would appreciate this a lot! There's also another test that you could run. So currently games that need more than 16 gigs of memory will spill over into the ssd for virtual memory. But there's something in the works called ZRAM, which SteamOS 3.6 uses by default, which instead of using SSD, just "zips up" memory and keeps that "zipped" data in the ram. So it would be interesting to see if this is helped by the 32 gig mod, and if maybe the algorithm needs to be tuned for 32 gigs.

Windows 11 on PC eats 10 GB by default and 5 GB on laptops and consoles. Arch Linux + KDE if well configured eats up 2 GB on PC There's something rotten in Microsoft's software that we can't understand.

I mean, the techs were not wrong, and they are just doing their jobs... Rather than posting their responses and implying a target at them, maybe push more at ASUS themselves. I agree at that cost, those fans shouldn't be in there, but also, a help desk tech can't change the companies whole manufacture suite. Hahaha.

The original memory was Hynix. I installed Samsung. I re-soldered the jumper. After this, there is no image on the built-in screen. There is an image via HDMI. The screen is intact. The screen cable is intact. What could be the problem? Flashing BIOS doesn't help

I absolutely love my steam deck. About to do a full modding gauntlet with shell, ssd upgrade, button mod, hal sticks. Gonna make it my main pc. Dual booting steam os and linux. (Might also run windows for non linux games too. Idk. Not a fan of windows.)

How much are you using the Ally vs the Steam Deck?

Just got my steam deck oled today, was completely lost until this vid lol. I think sometimes less is more. My main goal was having a game library all together, emulators, customizable themes and sounds and just quality of life plugins. The amount of stuff that I see other people do, I'm like uhhh yeah less is more for me 😂
