At 0:57 the BD had agreed to a ceasfire for the ATF to get their wounded and dead out. In later interviews and trial testimony it was discovered that the BD had several riflemen watching them and could have easily shot them at that point but they truly wanted to deescalate and end the nightmare. They also debated about sending their women and children out to safty but a goon sniper had executed an unarmed father trying to get back to the compound and killed all the dogs so they knew they couldnt trust the government. They were also adamant that the ATF fired first and the door that proved it went missing before trial. So what does the government do? Instead of using this good faith ceasefire to end it peacefully, they top off their mags, fly in more goons, requisition tanks, perform days of psychological warfare and end up slaughtering women and children wholesale. The news aired government propaganda and people still beleive the BD did it to themselves in some death cult sacrifice, but all the survivors disagree and were actively trying to stop the fires and issued the women and children gas masks. Lessons learned.
