There is an alternate version of stair-stepping that is not exploited in this way. If you limit how large of a stair the player can "step up" to, you will immediately get rid of this problem. It's similar to how character controller code will also allow a character to move up a ramp until it reaches a certain angle, so that they can't climb an 85 degree piece of geometry out of bounds of the map.

the downside of stair stepping is that it can be visually jarring. at least to me, a lot of games that implement stair stepping can make my eyes hurt. of course, this all depends on the game and its implementation of stair stepping, if it uses it.
@pauljs7520 годин тому
The stair into "elevator" thing depends on if the game determines if a player has to be some distance onto a step as well (the way collision boxes are used might prevent moving onto a sliver of terrain), and whether it needs a stair terrain type to allow for this type of movement. So it seems that for some games it's more like a hacky modded map kind of thing than something which is part of default game maps.

i think it's worth mentioning that critically analyzing games (and any media for that matter) can be fun, but typically the way gamers do critical analysis is often shallow and with the extrinsic motivation of, like you say, proselytizing and finger wagging. and this style of criticism is just a good way to make oneself miserable. however, analyzing a game as a means to engage with the property on a deeper level is entirely compatible with fun and, for me at least, often increases it. kind of like how people in a book club talk about books, talking about games in terms of the ways their mechanics work and how they relate to the themes of the game or whatever can be really engaging. of course, if that's not your thing then it won't be fun to do it, but i wanted to express the difference between the cynical "why doesn't he game industry get its act together and make games like this?" vs just engaging with the game for its own sake.

I love the stairs in Detroit Become Human. If you run around in some of the levels, there's TONS of animations just foir stepping up, and over things.
@edwardblair4096День тому
What about requiring a minimum horizontal distance at the top of the stair? Once the top width gets too small to stand on then you should be using climbing mechanics, not stair mechanics

I think simplified designs must be only used when the design must be VERY quickly understood, like in a fraction of a second, but if it's something that can be a bit more elaborated, like a logo of a firm, or even an item in a game (where you have time to process things) or anything else, then no, it's not necessary, maybe if you want a design more comfortable to the eye like when watching a screen at late hours of the night or in dark themed UI's, then maybe a simpler design could do better. Sometimes one, sometimes the other, and often times even a mix of both would do best, it really depends a lot.

Silly idea: give it the delay but, when u hold down the fire button, it cocks it self to be ready to fire and when you release, it fires. And spamming it would make your character fan it. Also make the bullet travel instant so that they could hold down fire button and trace the target. So basically either chose accuracy or rpm
