A project this size looks like a Notifiable Project to the HSE. Nothing was checked here obviously. Zero safety considerations.

I would understand if it actually made the job faster but it doesn't. Look how carefully he has to move. Why not throw a few extra boards on and move freely? As for the harness etc. That thing gets very uncomfortable so I understand tbh

Spend £300 on a really nice harness, and you won't even know it's there. Spend £30 on Amazon for a no-brand Chinese ratchet strap, sewn by a 4 year old into something DESCRIBED as a harness, and it will eat your balls all day. You pays your money, you makes your choice.

U think that's scary and dangerous? No way he is standing on a plank that's been strengh tested plus tons of complete steel scaffolding underneath to support, only thing he has t b careful of is his balance and I think a 4 year old could balance on that plank over a foot in width and 4 inches thick, so there not so dangerous after all, when u do this everyday it's a piece a piss...

@@scottbrown12 - If you put a measuring tape to a UK tube & fittings scaffolding board, you will find that it is actually 8.5 inches wide. 😉 Hello from another scaff. 👋

People kill themselves (literally and physically) over a job that'll replace in the next second once something happens to and can no longer make them any money just to get a job done quickly...
@Deady2012

Blithe Studios Scaffolding firms give lads pretty unrealistic goals. You may be expected to complete a job like the one these lads are on in 2 weeks. That isn’t going to happen using SG4 & TG20 down the the T. If you don’t get the job done you are replaced. I’m on a job now only working 30ft up, we havn’t been provided safe access to the lift above or provided the tools required to do a progressive handrail/advanced guardrail. Shit happens u have get on with it.

I do this job quicker and safer. I have a bit of brain and imagination. It takes 5 minutes to get 5 boards up and fix single handrail. They are just imbeciles, not scaffolders

So why is my ex-employer allowed to claim the life of a member of staff, get fined by the HSE then still allow the same breaches of health and Safety to carry on???
@martinisles7806

A truly motivational address by Dame Judith. My comments relate principally to the Mineral Products industry, where the UK leads H&S thinking in Europe and, indeed, globally. As retired H&S Director for the Mineral Products Association, I now act as part-time 'Special Advisor - Health & Safety' to the MPA, whilst representing the industry in Europe and beyond. My brief comments on each of the 6 themes are as follows: ACTING TOGETHER requires the involvement of all in the supply chain, not just the producers and users, we - including the HSE - need to embrace the designers of plant & equipment, i.e. the manufacturers who supply us the kit that we use and maintain, day in, day out, and in many instances for several decades. Designers must share the responsibilities for health & safety. HSE has a role to play in facilitating their presence at the table of partnership. TACKLING ILL HEALTH has to have even greater emphasis than 'safety' in order to catch up on the legacy of past under-performance. An example is the setting of 'lead indicators of OH'. All organisation - without exception - should set the achievement and maintenance of "Zero Harm" as their realistic goal. This requires zero damage to occupational health, as well as zero injuries. MANAGING RISK WELL means not only avoiding the trivial by optimising our focus and outcomes, it also means treating the health & safety of our contractors and visitors with the same care that we treat our direct employees. SUPPORTING SMALL EMPLOYERS needs to be of fundamental importance to any trade association. In the Mineral Products Association, despite around 75% of quarry products being produced by just four multinationals, SMEs account for 50% of 'best practice' submissions to the MPA's annual H&S Awards Scheme now in its 30th year. MPA is a past winner of RoSPA's prestigious "SME Assistance Trophy". KEEPING PACE WITH CHANGE is admirably demonstrated by the MPA's dedicated H&S website, www.Safequarry.com with its 'auto-alerts' and recently-launched Apps. Such is the success of "Safequarry.com" that is is renowned & respected globally. Tripartite bodies such as the "Quarries Partnership Team", chaired by the HSE, have opted to have their online activities hosted by Safequarry.com such is their confidence in its success. SHARING OUR SUCCESS encourages us all to abandon any 'silos' that may exist, be they local, regional, national, or even European. We need to share globally what is best, but equally be prepared to listen globally to what is best from beyond our shores. The provenance of good ideas and innovations is unimportant - its the sharing, the learning and the implementing that counts! Martin Isles, 27 January 2016
