42:45 Chances MSI is using their resources to make other products beside Radeon cards? Maybe they will use that production to make Qualcomm laptops. They absent from the list of partners at a Elite X events.

Smh Ive been keeping up with pc’s since the nvidia 900 series and I’m going to build my first ever pc when the 15th gen of Intel and nvidia’s 5000 series comes out. I’m really hoping Intel pulls through. (I want Intel because it feels like the American v8 of cpus and I wanna water cool 😈)

@MooresLawIsDead It's actually an interesting question why old roadmap items were dropped. May be analysis would be a fun perspective discussion, getting away from the binary right/wrong. SMT-4 hasn't come to server. Possible reasons: 1) we have the cloud dense cores halving L3 cache. Processes blocked on i/o become unrunnable, so a full context switch occurs flushing caches. 2) James Prior's mentioned apps not scaling above 32t. Wendell server apps pinned to a CCX for L3 efficiency with x3D boosting some server applications "scaling super linearly". 3) L1 & L2 have increased to scale frequency, more threads sharing those core caches work against that 4) simply diminishing returns as 2 threads suffer memory stalls less than 1, while simultaneous execution work uses more power, meaning core power limits would be hit

switch 2 isn't happening. its gonna be a classic home console using AMD as always, and you will be able to stream to your switch like the playstation portal.... the ONLY reason the switch exists is because Nvidia sold Nintendo the Tegra-X1 processor AT COST. meaning they didn't lose money, but they didn't profit either. they broke even. there is no way in hell Nvidia gives Nintendo another faster chip, once again, at cost. Because if it wasn't for those at cost chips, the switch would have been amd.... period. that's why the home consoles are AMD. because AMD makes custom silicon cheaper. proof? tesla had a nvidia contract and then ended up cancelling it because FOR THE MONEY the performance Nvidia was trying to give Tesla was dogshit. so tesla went to AMD and now all their cars are powered by AMD. period. because Nvidia is TOO EXPENSIVE. the switch got tegra-x1 at cost. that wont happen again. AMD's focus on these new chips, the apu's, and the focus. its because IF there is a switch 2, its gonna be AMD regardless. but it makes more sense for them to make a home console.

For most people, there is no need to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 7600X to a Zen 5, because you need an RTX 4070 / RX 7900 GRE or upwards to start bottlenecking, and even that only if going FullHD instead of QHD, which is quickly becoming the standard ( and recommended base resolution for any screen of 27" upwards ). Actually, to have bought the Ryzen 5 7600X is a good indicator that it is supposed to stay, because the 7600 and 7500F make for better transitional options. That CPU simply is that good already.

How long for 32 gb vram laptops from nvidia. Id like a 7090 laptop but I am not sure how long it would take them to make something that good. Its a little annoying they cant even match the vram on their desktop cards because the laptops really need help compared to desktop. It would be nice if they would just exceed the desktop in vram since they cant compare on performance.

Talking about software problems on Intel side, in February 24 i have the first in 20 years of admin career experience of numerous Windows BSOD's produced by bad Intel iGPU driver version. Both desktops (i5 12400) and 12-th gen laptops were catching bsods soon after user logon, but not in a safe mode. Intel igpu was rock solid for decades and it was the last thing i could imagine causing problems. Manually installing ver 101.5330 solved it for me.

I have a strategy for the Radeon division of AMD. You want to beat Nvidia, I can tell you the best way to do it. Squeeze from the bottom. This is a multi-generational strategy, it will take three generations to make it work. I don't think AMD has the strategic foresight to do that, despite the CEO. Not only produce APUs for laptops and lower end but still capable desktops, but more importantly continue to do so with higher memory capacity and bandwidth at the lower end. We all know that game companies aim for the most common cards. If you capture that lower to mid-range by squeezing from the bottom, making Nvidia just a halo product, eventually what happens will be that no matter how superior the technologies Nvidia gives, because they are not willing to compete at the mass level, that is the general public level, games will not be optimized for Nvidia anymore. Essentially this is a strategy that both Intel and AMD must do. Whoever gets the majority of the population to have their cards, during the next three generations, will have the ability to dictate how games are optimized and produced

I think Xbox is going third party because they want more platforms to have access to their games, platform choice for customers, and more revenue streams instead of locking it to a console/windows adoption, games are getting bigger and more complex which costs a lot more money, they console wars as a chock hold. Look at Sony canceling a lot of projects and studio closures because games are getting more advanced and bigger every year there for huge budgets which means it consumes more of the income they get from consoles and game sales. nintendo is starting to think third party given Mario is on Steam. I think console wars are dying and choice of platform or platforms is the way. Playstation and Nintendo need to start thinking of going more third-party so they have the revenue to fund budgets for more projects.

I'm hoping to get a strix Halo 16 core CPU in a 17" chassis that either comes with (unlikely) 64GB of ram or can be upgraded to 64gb ram and at least a 1tb M.2 with a slot for a second M.2 and NO Dedicated GPU! With HDMI & mDP out with usb 4 c and at least 2xUSB 3.2 A ports. Hopefully without the dedicated GPU it will have reasonable battery life. Not expecting miracles here as OEM's seem to lack the balls/foresight to make something like this (at least wothout charging like wounded bulls! Looking at you ASUS!). I think Strix Halo would enable this type of machine. A lot of professional in the IT industry would buy it, myself included.

Regardless of the speed gains for DDR5, it's only going to keep up with the improvements to at least AMD CPUs. Because of this, AMD has said that they can't move up from 32t computing for desktop using DDR5. The math is pretty simple. If you assume that AMD gains 20% moving to Zen 5, and then assume another 15 - 20%, and I think it's going to be closer to 15%, and this is on TOP of the 20% going to Zen 5, it's safe to assume that the move from Zen 4 to Zen is about 37 - 40% improvement. This isn't just IPC, it's total gains. When AMD gets rid of their IF and moves to direct connect this will allow them to use less power AND clock die faster AND Zen 6 will be on an improved TSMC N3 node, something to keep in mind. It means that for top end the clock speeds WILL be at least 6 GHz, and probably up from that to 6.1 - 6.3. So, 6GT/s DRAM is fast enough to keep the cores fed in memory intensive operations, when all 32 threads of a 7950X need to pull data, but just barely. If I remember correctly AMD has said this is already a problem. So, add 40% onto 6GT/s and you get about 8500 MT/s DRAM. Is DDR5 going to get much faster than that? Probably not. Maybe it gets to 10GT/s, but that will be an OC for AMD CPUs and they're not going to make specs around an OC config, or rely on an OC config to keep cores fed with enough data. AMD MIGHT be able to get away with using big-little in their version on desktop and get up to 40t with 8x2 chiplets for Zen 6. But for AMD to make a much more powerful desktop without moving to HEDT AMD needs to get to DDR6 AND the mem controllers/ISA need to take advantage of the extra memory channels DDR6 will have. It's either that or for CPUs with more cores AMD will need both dual and quad channel configs for desktop. And this is certainly possible. You pull the mem controller off the IOD and put it on the core die where it should be anyway, and with a 2 core chiplet CPU you would then have 2 mem controllers. This would allow much more efficiency with memory access, making it use less power AND getting rid of latency with not having to do ALL that funky stuff of getting data through the IF controller on the IOD, converting data to serial to transfer across chiplets, convert it back to parallel for use on die. That's just terrible inefficiency. And this is why I've said more than once that AMD needs to get to DDR6 as fast as possible, it's the reason why there's been the discussion about Zen 6 possibly being on AM6 though it probably won't be, but Zen 7 REALLY needs to be on AM6/DDR6.

@cracklingice

IMO what AMD should do next if it is possible. They should make the IOD a dual IOD that can be split when one is defective or to meet demand. With each side having dual channel memory, 2 CCD IF links and 28 (or 32) PCIE lanes. Then they can use two with the connection in tact to make HEDT chips and slice it in half to make two consumer chips. It would be nice if the CCD IF links could be used to connect to a GPU. Perhaps use one from each half of the IOD and have one 8 core CCD on each half and now you have a quad channel fire breathing HEDT APU.

Honestly the last month MSI has really put a bad taste in my mouth like why are they they so keen to get to suckin for Intel and Nvidia? At least Nvidia is on top and has oodles of cash, but the fact the claw exists with Intel is really odd to me. If Intel paid them to have a handheld to not see behind, then that was a waste of funds they need in other areas. Share holders be damned there won't be much of a company left to have a share of it Intel keep things up at the pace they have been on. Intel is really starting to feel like AMD in 2009. Meteor and Raptor-R already felt like a bulldozer launch. Let's hope Arrow and Lunar Lake aren't Intel's Piledriver.
