There is some critical thinking, since that is a stated value of Fontbonne I would like to exercise here. This video made less than a year ago seems to proclaim a boom time in applications to Fontbonne. NO ONE watching this video could imagine that in less than a year's time Fontbonne would announce its closing. It seems to me there is something dishonest here. People were deliberately kept in the dark about the truth of the real situation of Fontbonne. If you guys, admin trustees etc. had USED the Centennial Celebration to say straight out FONTBONNE IS IN TROUBLE you could have garnered I believe GREAT SUPPORT from the community, from new donors, from every possible direction but you kept quiet and people took you at your word. Another 100 years the video ends with. WHY DIDNT YOU TELL THE TRUTH AT THE TIME IT COULD HAVE MADE THE MOST DIFFERENCE. I am sorry to say this but it must be said by someone there was outright deception at the time of the Centennial celebrations in making it look like Fontbonne was poised for another 100 years. This is a very serious sin of ommission and now it is a missed chance, gone forever. Without truth there is no love, no service. You failed the truth, you failed the students the profssors the staff Fontbonne, and most of all you failed the children of the future. I am not judging you but this has to be said at least so that other schools can learn a lesson WHEN YOU NEED HELP FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE ASK FOR IT. DONT TRY TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE EVERYTHING'S WORKING WHEN IT IS NOT.

I’ve been a long time fan of Neil. He is now in my list of people when you start a new job, they ask you “if you could have dinner with three people, living or dead, who would they be?” Hands-down Neil would be one along with Robin Williams, Hunter S. Thompson, and Hemingway, because I’m greedy. Of course, there are many others we could throw in for fun.

1. Scott was not a citizen but that had nothing to do with him being wrongly enslaved. 2. He was in the wrong court, they could not adjudicate. 3. The court ruled you cannot make someone a citizen, therefore they are not subject to the state. At that point he should have been released from his condition. But the court didn't have jurisdiction to hear the case.

Thanks so much for including a portion of the "Classroom Matters" podcast. I enjoyed the conversation with Kristy Houle and applaud the important work she does. Whether it's the "Fab 5," the simple idea of having a tool to trap ideas and to-dos as soon as they occur, or something else, I hope our spot helps many students in the coming year. So what? This is ancient history.
@connectstl
@connectstl 5 місяців тому
No, ancient history typically refers to the period of recorded human history from the beginning of writing and recorded human history up until the end of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD. The 19th century, spanning from 1801 to 1900, is much more recent and falls under the category of modern history. Dred Scott was a prominent figure of the 19th century.
@thetroof5525
@thetroof5525 5 місяців тому
@connectstl And? So, what? Just as irrelevant. The very best a person could hope to accomplish with such nonsense is to divide people and foment hatred. Which is way worse than simply being a racist.
@connectstl
@connectstl 5 місяців тому
Remembering slavery and racism is not inherently divisive; rather, it is a critical part of understanding our history and shaping a more equitable future. The key lies in how these topics are approached and discussed. This video simply presents the facts as they occurred. It aims to foster understanding, empathy, and a commitment to justice and equality through remembrance of the past. No one is being blamed for past events other than the slave holders who are all dead. Are you personally offended on their behalf?
@thetroof5525
@thetroof5525 5 місяців тому
@connectstl Of course not. I've forgiven all the slave holders and all the africans that enslaved them and sold them. And I dont need stupid little videos to tell me slavery is evil. Nor do I see people who capitalize on slavery, like yourself, as doing anything more than keeping racism alive. Understanding, compassion, and love for your fellow man are traits that are taught in the home by our parents, certainly not by silly virtue signaling videos on yt. Morality is something that is either written on the heart or it is not. Clearly, you couldn't care less about morality otherwise, you wouldn't tell lies ("...its a critical part of understanding our history and shaping blah blah blah...)to defend this garbage you produce. So, no, Im not offended, just bored with it. Bored with all the people masquerading as virtuous but in truth are simply monetizing their efforts to use historical events as a political weapon against people based solely on race. Kinda racist if you ask me.
