If you can't go to a priest for whatever reason, you should probably go to a saint. God is merciful and there are many gates. But like, why wouldn't you do it in person where its sacramental and more likely to be sincere?

Keep in mind that when the declaration was written, black people were still slaves and women were not allowed to vote, even other white men if they didn't own land weren't allowed to vote. The founders and everyone who came before them to serve as their influence had read the bible, and still these MASSIVE exceptions to "all are created equal" persisted. This demonstrates that it is through active and continuous participation in enlightenment, not religion, that we achieve moral progress. The founders were not perfect, the bible is not perfect, and we are better than both today...or at least some of us are😒

I fear we've reached the point where too many people don't believe in even that. I think we're at the point where many people believe their values are more important than any external values put on them by God. And because of that, we've lost touch with reality all together. It seems a lot of people have fallen so far that nothing from the past has even held to be true in their hearts.

There are no works that you can do to earn your salvation. If there were, Christ's work on the cross would be meaningless. As Paul taught, Abram was deemed righteous by God because of his faith and nothing else. God knows what is in the heart of every person. So performing some ritual, following some law, or even being friendly will not justify you. Abram sinned yet was still justified by God and called righteous. "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your HEART that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Thank you for the encouraging word. This resonates with my struggles at work from a few months ago. I have turned it around but I was definitely stuck in that headspace for a while.

And what advice/ help do you have for people who suffer with scrupulosity/ OCD?

My question is the fact that priests wear traditional clothing and nuns don't always wear the long habits. I live in Oregon and on Mt Angel Benedictine Sisters (see website lol), all look like ordinary old ladies. No habits. I find personally that I like the nuns to look like nuns. I respect the long, modest habits! Is that wrong of me?
