Unfortunately ,many of the place names were the German version and trying to locate some of them on a map were near impossible, only maybe to one town in a very large area at times, although, it is also possible some of the villages do not exist anymore. Was hoping the subtitles would help, they were very poorly done to say the least. Good story, sure he saw a lot that he didn't talk about, from the early days and his time behind the lines in reserve areas. Would not have been a nice experience, they took as good as they gave thru the course of the war, being a tanker, he was very lucky to survive it, in large part due to the equipt he operated..

The foreword is horrible. The Bolsheviks raping and torturing civilians on all sides are the good guys? They understood this was a fight for the very survival of Germany. Germany now has a forced quota of 3.5 non-european immigrants a year. In 20 years or less it will no longer be Germany.

I admire the honesty of R von Rosen, He describes not only the battles and, but also looting of the soviet store in the first days of the war and drinking Cognac and what not while on active duty. That is how it really was.

It's so sad how leaders can perpetrate such evils and barely hit a snag while the duped population are left holding the bag, again and again. Why we keep believing our leaders escapes me...

He says they were fighting Russians and Bolsheviks. That is good and well, but what for did they murder the Jews? Occupying France, Norway, bombing Britain - is it really the war on Bolshevism?

Good book

These war memories form the german point of view are all well and good. However, don't forget how Hitler came too power, what the SS did and the goals of Germany. Fighting a lost cause doesn't make you a "hero" if the cause is evil.
