I've seen a lot of comments mentioning regulus + other death eaters so here's my take on this. in fics I love seeing people's interpretations of regulus' character and I usually like him even though he makes some *very* bad choices along the way. I however do NOT get the hype around barty and evan. they didn't get any kind of redemption. they were with voldemort until the end and didn't ever have the realization of oh this is kinda fucked up (or they just didn't care). I never understood how the fandom can babygirlify characters whose only known trait is basically evil 💀 at least regulus has complexity and his final act was a good one. finding a good wolfstar fic and seeing rosekiller in the tags is the most devastating experience istg some of these ships materialize out of thin air. I've actually read some jegulus fics too because I'm interested in their dynamic even though I would never want that in the canon universe and rosekiller is always shoved in there too like I'm supposed to care about genocidal maniacs who in canon were not complex they were just really fucking evil edit: I read modern au's with barty and evan and I take everything back I was unfamiliar with their game omg. canon rosekiller boooo fanon rosekiller yayyyy

Have literally never watched any of your videos before, but this is so well written I'm shocked you aren't famous or something. I have only recently joined the marauders fandom because I can totally relate to marauders sirius and my girlfriend is literally remus. I do love this fandom even though it has a horrible trend of changing things that I don't personally agree with. (for context i'm not a big jegulus fan) Wonderful Video.

I always got impression that sirius remus were friends because of james and because of sirius prank on snape their friendship gone downhills. That is just my opinion, but them being boyfriends just don't fit.

hot take but i dont really think that continuing to support a piece of media like harry potter that is owned by someone who has stated on multiple occasions that she doesn't appreciate or support queer/trans people is what a queer utopia is. why are we continuing to support someone who does not care about us? why are we expending our energy and our creativity on a fandom for an author that derides us? why do we continue to support and breathe life into characters where we have to hunt for representation by reading between the lines or make it up where it doesn't exist? this is my own experience as a desi person, so i cannot speak to all other desis, but i really dislike when people rewrite james potter's character as desi, since i don't want to have some kind of shoehorned representation in a story that didn't take the time to be explicit about it or give the representation the nuance and care it deserves. i--we--deserve more than that. there are so many really good fantasy series with queer and poc rep. is this REALLY the best that we can do after decades of this? like, sure, you can argue that the fanfic that people write is independent of whatever jk rowling did, but you cannot deny that there are people who continue to buy merch /her books and push content that either directly or indirectly support her some way. she's hated queer and trans people for ages just let her legacy die. idk i thought this video would dive deeper into those aspects but ig not. why are we still supporting a series that was never written for queer people in the first place? all of this just puts a really bad taste in my mouth and makes me sad.

ATYD is such a conforting fanfic! It's a fact that Remus is most completely ignored the whole book and movie series,not being a well explored character and leaving by a shallow and depthless idea of his lycanthropy,wich could be such a interesting topic in the Canon books that when i meet the fanfic i was so envolved by it and Remus life that i felt bad while reading the ACTUAL books. Remus was a close friend of Sirius and James who were well explored in the series,so why they left him behind like that? Characters such as him,the Mckinnons,Macdonals,Pettigrew and Regulus who where cited on the books but not well explored are just the most interesting thing to read,and to be honest,i cant understand why JKrowling didnt wrote her own Canonic book about the Marauders Era,saying she 'doesnt like spin offs',but made a Series of THREE movies and a book talking about Dumbledore's Past!? I really love Wolfstar,the wizarding world,everything that surrounds Harry Potter and it's so frustrating to know that Jk did them so dirty,in the movies is even WORST!!! Yet,the fanfic is definetelly a conforting escape for me from the reality and im very grateful to MskingBean89 and the translator of the portuguese version of the book,because it was probably the best fanfic i've ever read,well written,based on actual facts of the movie,full of emotions and uncannon characters that actually increase something to the books!

I miss when the fandom was not toxic.

The thing I love most about the Marauders fandom is how we get to know the magic of Hogwarts!!! Like, in HP we didn't know each other very well because of the war and everything that was happening with Harry, but with marauders people it's different!! We see the pranks, the trouble, the arrests that they never cared about because they only cared about having fun.. With marauders we know what the real magic of Hogwarts is!! Potterheads will never know what Hogwarts really was until they join the Marauders fandom, and that's aside from queer representation and how many people of different sexualities feel represented, welcomed and can see themselves in those characters! I don't know how to explain it, but the Marauders are more than "the friends of the father of the boy who survived", they are something so incredible that it's impossible to explain!! I just love the marauders and everything they represented, represent and will always represent in my life and in the lives of thousands of people.

This is the same community that pair Sam and Dean Winchester, fictional brothers, together. There were no gay undertones between Sirius and Lupin, the latter of whom got married to Tonks and has a baby by the end. Sirius sexuality was never really explicitly explored nor was Peter’s so they can be up to interpretation, sure. But let’s be real here it’s just gay people fantasizing, nothing more or less. And I wonder how receptive they’d be if straight people took gay characters and made fanfiction where they were straight. Not being mean or facetious, not saying there’s anything wrong with it, just saying, this video explanation is kind weird and kinda bs.

I could care less about the politics of it but from a purely practical standpoint. Being a terf is the most logical form of feminism. Because by accepting trans people, you're accepting the fact that the majority of transitions are from male to female, which puts a hole in the argument that females are a disenfranchised group that suffers more than males wich is the heart of the third wave feminist movement.

I agree that representing diversity is important, but today we are takeing it way too far, I mean that I want to be free to not ship only gay couples if I want and to say that Aaron Taylor Jonson was a better James Potter than its clore counterpart. and speaking of james potter, I don't find it fun to idolize him as if he were a saint who didn't do anything wrong in his life, because (now I'll say something that will piss off a lot of people) he was a bully just like Snape, and this is something that many in the fandom forget. and then, this is a genuine question, why must all the media in the world necessarily represent all kinds of minorities? I want to say that we all hate jk for her transphobia , wich is totally fere . but many peapole also hate her because she didn't properly represent all the minorities on the planet and this is exaggerated to say the least, then it seems like you all forgot about the fact that Harry Potter is a product of his time, exactly like jk. and in any case I am firmly convinced that an author can choose what to represent and what not in his work. and anyway you have your fanfictions why always complain. well I liked the fandom more at the beginning. and the last thing, I loved Regulus Black as a character, this fandom made me hate him, like the whole Barty and Evan story, don't iven gat me started with this. can we also talk about how many interesting female characters are out there and don't get reconition , like the black sisters. this fandom did grete , but it can do better .

I appreciate JK Rowling's slander. But I am slightly tired of hearing Americans complaining about the lack of queer representation within the books. It takes one Google search to find out about Section 28, a law passed by Margaret Thatcher to exclude the mention or "promotion" of homosexuality within schools. The Harry Potter books were advertised for children, JK Rowling may not have originally written it in that respect, but a book containing both a school setting and queer culture would never have been published. The criticism against her presentation of women, race, and her recent transphobic comments is entirely valid. But, by criticising her for her lack of queer representation, we forget about the effect this law had on British queer culture and literature entirely, let it not be forgotten.

I strongly believe one of the reasons for ATYD being SO popular, was its nuance on British culture specifically. Specifically British culture concerning race and sexuality. The inclusion of David Bowie, aids, and Mary having Jamaican heritage all referenced incredibly important aspects of queer and black history within the UK. Mary's parents most likely came over on a Windrush boat, which in itself gives her so much depth that I think needs to be considered more. Equally, British rock in the 70s/80s, class, and queer culture in Londo were touched on so well that it is easy to see why they were a factor in its popularity. I would love to give more examples, but I have an exam in an hour and my head is full of The History Boys quotes. But I hope this makes some sense :)

Because if they do try to do what Hermione did they're destined to fail in that endevour because of how events play out. *BUT* - I say fuck J.K. Ms. Kingbean’s one of my idols. Just like in “all the young dudes” I add representation of minorities where a story lacks. Little rant: I like to add different African cultures to a story and sprinkle in songs in their language, it makes my little mixed-raced-person heart feel happy to know that I didn’t butcher representation. (I’m not African, (unless having African ancestors counts) but many of my friends are, on account of my living two years in Africa).

The thing is, I like both Harry Potter and marauders but I just say I like Harry Potter so it’s not confusing. People automatically assume that I’m one of those annoying ‘Hogwarts is my home’ kind of fans usually associated with millennials. I promise I’m a normal person I just have a fascination for magical fantasy worlds. On the other hand, if I tell someone I’m part of the marauders fandom, some (not all) assume I’m lgbt when I’m not. I don’t get angry but it can be a little annoying as I’ve heard people genuinely say stuff like ‘all marauders fans are gay’ but tbh I just enjoy the general vibe of marauders era.
