this post is old, but i still wanted to comment, lets start with club racing, were i race in almost 99 percent of classes you have to use a traxxas, you have to run traxxas tiers you have to run traxxas servo, shocks, you cant run any other 12 turn brushed motor you cant run any other esc, the tracks are saying if you dont run a traxxas then you dont race, and i think its wrong and bad on the hobby, one of the main reason you walk into a hobby shop and see traxxas every were is local tracks and most any other tracks do not exsept any other brand ,, look at the classes, 2wd slash, 2wd buggy bandit, mud boss 2wd slash, why is it i cant run a 2wd buggy of my choice, why cant i run a 2wd sct of my choice, even the mud boss class there are plenty of other platforms, motor makers tier makers, esc makers and so on, know its traxxas cramming there stuff down all these hobby shops, and then the hobby shops cramming it down ares, is it traxxas, is it are local hobby shops, is it are tracks, so what if i put a mud boss body on a ecx, redcat, arma, or any other, if the classs says 2wd brushed sct then thats the class, not traxxas slash, i can rant about it all day, but at the end of it 2wd is 2wd and so on

Idk if I would recommend a 4x4 as someone’s first rc, it’s more maintenance in a new world that can be a lot for new guys. I would tell them to start with a 2wd myslef🤷‍♂️
