the sudo command is also a lifesaver, on windows if a command requires admin privelages, you have to reopen cmd as an admin, and do all that vs linux where you just type sudo

I started on openSuse and Fedora 3 in like 2003 or so, being a BFU for most years until recently. I never used MacOS because it's really expensive for me (but nowadays with ARM they are superior in terms of performance, I'd love to have an ARM machine with linux). I had dual boot linux/windows for majority of my life and it can't compare. Windows bloats overtime and get slow while Linux just runs. I dislike Unity(now Gnome 3), because it adds visual effects that slow your computer down. I used Mate as an GUI but it doesn't work with my docking station at work so I switched to Cinnamon(which I didn't like 10 years ago when I switched from Ubuntu to Mint) but now it's like Gnome 2 made today. Still pretty lightweight, fast and usable. I use Debian 12, being probably the largest distro with the most packages and having 2 year cycle (while Fedora only has 6 months) and most of our servers run on Debian so having the same OS helps. I still use windows at home as well, I tried complete switch to linux about 15 years ago there were no good alternative video editing softwares and Sony Vegas didn't work in Wine, being heavily dependent on windows libraries. If you never tried Linux try it. If you're not a hardcore gamer (lot of games on Steam are linux compatible for the last 10 years) and you don't need windows dependant software, there is really no reason to use windows, at all.

I work fulltime in an "agile" company. I work remote. My day: - 08:30 turn on computer and check that I am not online in Teams or our chat software. Trying to work for 1h - 09:30 go online. First Meeting "Daily Standup" (15-30m) - 10:15 "tech daily" meeting. More teams gather and have a daily standup but with multiple teams. (15m) - 10:30 Time to code. PO asks me if I have 5 minutes... OK, another meeting with PO - 11:00 A meeting about some project stuff (1h) - 12:00 - 13:00 break - 13:00 A various kind of meeting. Could be continuation of the meeting from 11:00 or Retrospective (takes at least 2h) - 15:00 Time to code... very tired, I usually take 15m nap. - 15:15 Work - 16:00 PO asks me "Do you have 5 minutes?" he likes to talk... sometimes 2h - 18:00 I did literally nothing, I feel guilty, what will I say tomorrow in daily standup? They will think I am stupid that I was not able to work?... Thats the time when I sometimes start to work overtime, sometimes until 22pm. Sometimes on the weekends.. :( This shit is very depressing. I used to work as a freelancer or just for me like Hallden, and it was fun. But working for someone, especially "agile" is very depressing. I am already searching for a new job but nowadays most of the companies want to be "hip" and use agile or other crazy faang soul crushing methodologies.

Maybe add MacOS to the video title because all it takes is one trip to stack overflow and you'll see macos is pefered for many devs for much of the same reasons

Hey Hallden, What macbook do you use for SD? I was wondering if an M2 with 8gb RAM would be enough for backend development

Watching this video 2 years later. I tried this Distro and my experience was horrible. If you plan to use the Distro as a daily driver that’s fine and it works great. However, for gaming; this is not the right choice. I confirmed it on my own and I can say that I was disappointed to see that none of my games on Steam worked.
