The attempt to hide the body is a signature not associated with the ripper murders. So I could see two reasons for this: attempts to disguise a suicide for the victim to receive proper burial or an opportunist trying to mimic ripper murders that has more remorse than the actual ripper murder.

I've read so many books on Jack the ripper, but this story is by far the sorriest case of a suspect, there's nothing at all to suggest William Bury was jack the ripper,,,,it's pathetic

Monarchy as a system has never been of the slightest benefit to the common people. It's just another system of people organizing themselves into a ruling class for the sake of exploiting everyone else and then waging war against anyone who challenges them. There hasn't been a single "good" monarch anywhere in English history for certain, and I very much doubt there has been anywhere else.

Okay listen the Catholic Church is full of shite! It’s almost blasphemy to put such a significant role on saints. No where in the Bible does it mention saints at all let alone praying to anyone other than god. I have no interest in learning the over the top control the Catholic Church wants over people.

Yeh ...Bury is a fascinating suspect, I bought the book on him years back ....Very Interesting well done Docu. But they did not cover the other people as witnesses , seeing Bury building a wooden box, an attack one night with screams, and one witness, a friend, he kept on asking about the Ripper crimes in London, that was in the book. Still good docu.

Lots of talk about the death of the modern film industry but I think Russel Crowe and his embodiment of the strong male lead did a lot to make this film very watchable. Strong male leads are course an anathema to the modern-day wokists. Can you imagine Ryan Gosling carrying this off?

Saw this movie back in the day. I was already by the a big fan of the director Peter Weir. It was one of my best ever moments in a theater. I was smiling feom begining to end due to both the artistry on display but also the the realism as well. I often prefer realism.

He seemed to get really offended by people asking "Why were medieval people dirty" but then proceeds to talk about their tunics soaking up sweat and the sweat never touching their outer clothes, and that their outer clothes would get dirty but never touch their skin. My man, I challenge you to wear two/three layers of clothing, perform very demanding task, sweat yourass off, remove said clothes and tell me you feel clean. I'm pretty sure Monty Python depiction of peasants and serfs was more accurate than we give them credit for.

The Patrick Obrien series of novels, of which this is based on, are the finest works of historically based fiction you could ever hope to read. My only complaint is that it was limited to 22 books, all of which would make for excellent film.

In the director's commentary Peter Weir describes himself as a huge fan of the patrick o brian books. He uses the word "trekkie" to compare how much of a fan he is. He certainly did the books justice with this amazing film. It's a great companion to the books. Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany are forever my Jack and Maturin. The soundtrack is special too.

"Master and Commander" is a top 10 all-time of mine. It's such a masterful bit of story-telling - and most importantly, capturing the feeling of living aboard a great sailing ship of the line is nothing short of phenomenal. Russel Crowe deserves (and receives) a great deal of credit for his portrayal of Maximus in Gladiator, but for my money - Jack Aubrey is the finest character ever brought to life by him (also, go and read up on Thomas Cochrane - whom Jack Aubrey is thought to be based off of - and his exploits. It's so impressive people wouldn't believe it if made into a movie).
