I picked one up as my first printer. The first one had some firmware issues and the SD slot was broken. So after about a week of printing I returned it. The second one was great. Everything I wanted in a beginner printer. I've put about 3 kg through it with very minimal maintenance. Still learning but I'm delighted.

Sorry to be the bad news guy but with DPT your company is doomed. Drama, pettiness and therapy (it's conspicuous absence.) He'll spend most of his time attempting to undermine everyone else while claiming everything they do was his idea. On a more positive note, Chep is a total hero, he should head support for sure and I'd stick Zak in R&D if it was me, his brain is a hyper matrix of computational nodes, and most of them are on speaking terms.

Re slicing - for a 4 layer vase mode shape - one approach that i think could work is slicing the object 4 times with the layer height 4x the real height, and the first layer on each version being 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4. Then post process the gcode to tidy up the first layers, plus reduce the extrusion amounts in the other layers. Then translation of rectangular coordinates into rotational would then either be done by the firmware or by another gcode post processing stage.

Zero issues with my SV06 out of the box. Beautiful prints in PETG right from the start. I can't think of another $230 printer with even close to the specs of this one. Far far far superior to any Ender. Not sure if you are just trying to justify a previous $800 spend on Prusa.

Ok this excites me. But is the printer good?
@billkaroly2 дні тому
I dislike UKpostsrs who gloss over or outright ignore faults. Speaking of which I recently bought the Artillery Sidewinder X4 Pro. That company drives me nuts. Somebody needs to design a hotend assembly with a BLTouch, better extruder and hotend. The stock version uses an ABL sensor, a cheap knockoff extruder and a Bamboo Labs type nozzle. The nozzle is ok but you can't get a hardened steel nozzle and nobody makes a truly compatible one. Supposedly a Volcano nozzle fits but it's slightly long and Klipper has trouble making a mesh. Nathan we need your help. Really. And they put a sticker on the bottom voiding the warranty if you remove it. They don't want people nodding them either. The controller is a customized MKS SKIPR. Air circulation for the electronics is bad bad bad.

I got one in for review and it’s trash. Basically wasted 40 hrs trying to make it work.
@billkaroly2 дні тому
@@NathanBuildsRobots I fixed my layer shifting. Edited the X and Y current in printer.cfg. the fan duct broke where it screws onto the blower fan. I printed a new one without the tab to the blower and it snaps into place. I made a small washer for the blower because the screw is too long otherwise. If anything post the review with a big fat DO NOT BUY in the title. I saw some reviews that looked promising so I bought it. Now I'm stuck with it and trying to make it do what I bought it for.

Re slip rings - I think you could get away with 2 way if you use it just for power, then do the thermistor control and anything else that might need to rotate wirelessly
@NathanBuildsRobots2 дні тому
Wireless comma would just add another failure point. I think 4 poles, 2 for power, 2 for thermistor, works best. I did come up with an analog circuit that would allow for power and thermistor signals to be sent over the same wire, but it’s more complexity. Might make sense for a cheaper printer, but my solution right now is just get the big expensive slip ring that does everything I need
@dwuk992 дні тому
I like the concept. I've been thinking along similar lines about parallel printing on a circular bed. My initial idea was 4 cantilever print heads that fully rotate - but I think something like your idea - but with an extra dimension of freedom on each arm may end up being more practical. I think however only having one dimension on each arm will severely limit the prints you can do -as they will need to be circular or rotationally more or less identical. Having the arms either move in a right angled dimension, or perhaps rotate will I think add a lot capability, my little video attached for example I think demonstrates a shape that would need more degrees of freedom than your current design, ukposts.info-Hi0HmhNNsI?si=TEFMoyQLRVJ359Gw Next stage for me is to demonstrate some real complex prints - either in my current config, or closer to yours with 4 fully independent (in x,y & z), combined with a rotational bed.
@NathanBuildsRobots2 дні тому
Yeah I went with this configuration because it is expandable up to 8 heads 🤓 My using a rotary joint to handle the arm motion you’re limited to 4, ilunless you do some tricky stuff like the iris on a camera lens
@dwuk992 дні тому
@@NathanBuildsRobotsthanks for replying, i agree that rotary movement of the print heads will limit the number of heads if their rotational axis are on the outsides due to large areas of overlap - but not really sure why this limits you to 4. Personally though I think right angle xy motion (combined with a rotational bed ) is going to end up being the most practical solution. A bit like mode 4 (about 90 seconds in this video, with a rotating bed added instead of the fixed bed shown) ukposts.info/have/v-deo/q3GZmY2YZGl_zWw.htmlsi=PMoZEeZ7fUKSapGO

@@NathanBuildsRobots well the entire printing community has wanted 5 axis printing for a decade now and as always the only issue is there is no slicer for it! For the heated bed why not have power supplied through the slip ring and have the control done on the bed communicating with the mainboard via wireless?
@NathanBuildsRobots3 дні тому
I’ve considered this. The main concern is reliability of the wireless connection. There is a lot of EMI noise coming off stepper motors and other PWM stuff. First priority is reliable operation. The crazier part would be having a spinning bunch of Printheads and stationary bed 🤓

single wall vase mode: slice 4 times each with 4 times the layer height, rotate model 90 degrees each slice. push the 4 different gcodes.. quad wall vase mode: model each wall separately (can model infill pattern), rotate each model 90 degrees each slice, push the 4 different gcodes. may need to single nozzle print the base. eventually, you want concentric and each nozzle printing its own layer. could sink the model into the slicer plate to get each layer. is there a way to lock the rotation speed? there's gotta be a gcode visualizer that will overlay 4 different gcodes cheers :)

How does your specified bed material differ from the 6061 that you received?
@NathanBuildsRobots3 дні тому
6061 is not stress released and will change shape as it is heated. Plus it is slightly curved at baseline. Not great for a heated bed. I need cast aluminum tooling plate like mic 6
