I started riding in 1985 for my triathlons in Miami . But lost 2 friends getting hit by cars . People driving with cell phones, country roads I used in 1996 are beat up not repaved . Plus protect my skin from the Florida sun. Started on Zwift in Decf 2023 , 289 rides later , 48 days t got my Tron bike , and my cycling for my Duathlons is alot strong and faster . And when I started riding indoors in 1987 it was because my 1st friend was hit and killed . Used Cateye CS-1000 . LOL, used it till Dec when I got a Garmin Smart trainer, now I have 40 in TV with Apple TV and now I have done 19 races. I love it , do not miss riding outside . I have 5 Duathlons planned done 2 already , my cycling is so strong and fast at age 67 . In 1996 here in Clermont FL is a beautiful road that had 6 homes , now in 2024 3000+ homes , yet same narrow 2 lane road double yellow no passing lanes. All of the forrest cut down for homes feet apart. So bottom line I do have a bike trail zero cars , will drive to it for a race simulation ride 1-2 times per month . Wish Zwift was around in 1987

The outdoor rides are not done or recorded on Zwift. Just go outside for an 1h, 1-1/2h or 2h ride each week of the Spring Training program. I was so happy when Zwift announced the player highlight. Now I think it has been highly exaggerated, everyone is highlighted for no important reason at any time. I would have like MY RIDER to remain highlighted and NO OTHERS. Thumbs up was enough for me, no need to highlight everyone. I can spot teal color highlighted players better than my own white one. All this makes no sense to me as I still have trouble finding myself in a 200 rider group as many of them are highlighted better than me. There should be an option to turn off all the other highlights that are not your own.

@bruceperry1408Місяць тому
Well I have wondered which riders were getting ride on but not certain any real importance. Missing something?
@endurancesweatМісяць тому
Your not missing anything. I think Ride On Bombs encourage the riders around you to keep working together. At one time, only Yellow Beacons could use Ride On Bombs. It seemed to me that encouraged riders to stay close to the Yellow Beacon. Now, all of us can use the Ride On Bomb. The only exception that I've come across is during Meet Ups when the Ride On Bomb does not seem to be available.
@ChristopherSterwerfМісяць тому

Ah, the big question. Am I the only one that is a bit disappointed in the spring after hard riding on zwift? The steady crank turning of zwift is certainly different but there must be more.
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Your observation is consistent with the commonly accepted "rule of thumb" that equates 1h on a trainer to 1.5h riding outdoors. No intersection interruptions, etc. Now that only applies if we don't take Coffee Stops. 😊
@Dr.Sheldor2 місяці тому
That looks idyllic - I keep thinking I'm done with riding outside, but it's really I'm done with riding on roads with cars - that looks like paradise.
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
I am okay riding on the roads with cars, though the incredibly rapid expansion of subdivsions in once quaint towns is rendering some once quiet rural roads into high traffic boulevard. Rails trails are ideal but there can be a lot of walkers at time. I really like gravel roads. Very little traffic and great countryside.

BTW. There are a lot of us - like you (?) and me - who enjoy riding on Zwift because we don't have to deal with traffic.

Spring and summer incoming 👍 Hope flowers and trees are blooming soon. Nature can be beautiful 🌳 You always use SPD/MTB pedal/shoes?
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
I have both Shimano SPD and SPD-SL pedals. I use the SPD pedals for gravel rides and long distance audax rides when they'll be time off the bike walking into cafes, restaurants, etc. I use SPD pedals for dedicated roads rides and on the bike on my trainer. I prefer SPD pedals. They are more versatile, easier to clip-in, and the cleats on cycling shoes almost never need replacing.
@the_fatshark2 місяці тому
@@endurancesweat yeah spd is more versatile and easier to walk on. So ideal for long rides when you also go for a bit of a walk into a cafe etc. That walking destroys the SL clips. But Spd-sl feels more clipped in and snugged in.

You’ve got me now looking at workouts after following your last series of streaming Ken, I’ve just done the Group Ride Cryo-Gen Power Tuesday Interval Group Ride plenty of people commenting how hard it was and it was certainly tough with virtually no rest intervals 🥵. I’ve also done a few longer distance rides plus the 100 mile ride with BMTR on Zwift but l only just completed the ride as my iPhone was saying only 10 % battery remaining even though it was plugged in !. Do you know if I could have switched phones with the Zwift app already on it and continued the ride ? or am l asking the impossible 😂. Great Inspiration Ken, Thanks 🚴👍
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Answering your question: Unfortunately, you could not have switched devices. If your iPhone battery had died, I believe (not certain) that Zwift would have save the part of the ride that you were able to complete. The Zwift app consumes a lot of power so it is not entirely a surprise that the battery was draining even though the phone was plugged into a power supply. Best you can do is fully charge the phone and perhaps turn down the screen brightness.
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
I also had to reflect on which Workout Plan to follow next after Fitness Jumpstart. There are so many options on Zwift but most plans have 4-5 workouts each week and are 8-12 weeks long. I have an event coming up at the end of April, so most of the Zwift plans were too long for me. Most of all, I wanted a plan with only a couple of (challenging) workouts each week. That allows me to do longer endurance rides outdoors and other group rides on Zwift. In the end, I am following a plan on Trainer Road. (I have used TR since 2015.)
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Congrats on the 100 mile ride with BMTR!
@stephenprince3402 місяці тому
Thanks Ken, you’ve answered my question and come up with a good idea of turning down the brightness on my phone to give more life to the battery I will try that on my next one. I’ve just realised that I have always connected my phone using cables to a T.V screen so if I turn down the brightness on my phone but increase it on the T.V screen it will gain more life out of the battery, that’s if I’m right, l hope. I’ll give it a try 😂

This mini map is almost useless, the biggest gripe I have with it is the same you talked about, I never know which way its going and it is frustrating. The other thing, which has nothing to so with the mini map, is when other cyclists are passing me even though I can see on their screen they are doing less power than me, sometimes the difference is almost 100 watts. How the hell can they be overtaking?
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Most everyone feels the same way that you do about the MiniMap. About other riders passing you, just keep in mind that it is the "power to weight ratio" (W/kg) and not simply "power" (W) that determines how fast you go on Zwift. For example, an 80kg rider putting out 200W is at 2.5W/kg. A 55kg (120lbs) rider doing 165W is at 3.0W/kg. So even though 165W is less than 200W, the 55kg rider will go faster than the 80kg rider. I'm not sure that explains it entirely, but maybe it's a start.

I’d like to see a rider-only highlight, good idea but friend highlight is a bit pointless and confusing
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
I agree that the highlighting of your own avatar is very helpful. The highlighting of a Yellow Beacon's' avatar is superfluous as there is already very prominent yellow chevron swirling above her/his head. As for friends, my experience was less than convincing especially when there are many friends riding with you as the highlighting jumps from friend to friend and is entirely inconsistent. Perhaps Zwift will improve the dynamics of friends' highlighting over time, but right now it is more confusing than helpful.

Thanks for those kind words. Perhaps like yourself, I have ridden with groups outdoors for so long that drafting is almost second nature. Still, drafting on Zwift is different. On Zwift, you don't get the sensory perception when you get into the draft. The closest feedback is when your avatar rises from the handlebar drops to the hoods. However, just like IRL, drafting makes a big difference on Zwift. Ride On!

@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
You are right about the difficulty of picking out your avatar in a large packs all with the same kit especially at the beginning of the event. I have been using an orange headband on my avatar just because few other do, so it has help a bit. The rider highlighting is so much better.
@slydog552 місяці тому
Even if only my rider alone was highlighted, I would be extremely grateful since I mostly ride with bots and a great deal of riders. Unfortunately I'm on Android and this feature will only be available in the next release for us. Appreciate all the info ahead of time though, thank you!
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Agree. I find the 'Rider Highlighting' is really helpful when riding with bots. As I mention in the video, I'd prefer that the highlighting did not fade in and out depending on how close you were to others. Or at least an option to keep the highlighting on full all of the time.
@jakobjas42122 місяці тому
It's just awful unfortunately. It's way too small to read, switches the direction of travel which is very unintuative, and worst of all quite often shows a different route to the one you're riding. For example on Innsbruckring, the minimap will constantly show the Innsbruck KOM despite it not being part of that course.
@endurancesweat2 місяці тому
Your right, the mini-map profile is not easily deciphered. It could be so much better. I was hoping the video would help Zwifters at least have an understanding of what is displayed on the profile. To reiterate a couple of points: The profile shown is NOT of the route but rather of the current `road`. Routes are made up of connected `road` sections. In your case, the Innsbrucking Route and the 2018 UCI Worlds Course Short Lap Route (which climbs up to Innsbruck KOM) both use the same `road` for their entirety. The Innsbrucking Route just uses a short section of that `road`. See zwiftinsider.com/route/innsbruckring/ and zwiftinsider.com/route/2018-uci-worlds-course-short-lap/. So the profile on the Innsbrucking Route always shows the climb. Hope this lengthy explanation helps. As I commented in the video, understanding why/what is displayed does not make the profile any better but hopefully Zwifters are less confounded by it. Ride On.
