My dad used to save the cheese and condensed milk for my sister and the chocolate for me and bring them home. We were always so excited to get them even though it all tastes loke garbage hahahaha

The digger who told old mate to try a “small sliver so it’s not overpowering” just lost his Australian citizenship for not telling him to slather it on as thick as he can. It’s one of an Aussie’s life’s little pleasures to watch an American’s face screw up in disgust when eating Vegemite for the first time.

the chocolate looks that way because its low moisture powdered milk so it doesnt melt in australias heat. your mouth makes it creamy the longer you have it in your mouth.

lived off these for far too long over my 10 year stint, i see they no longer have biscuits brown to bung you up and biscuits fruit to make you poop again, if you can get your hands on an Italian MRE, some of them come with a shot of alcohol for breakfast

G'day cobber! Another vote for making 'ot meals. Nothing is good cold, right? So all eating it cold shows is that you're a tough guy/masochist. Some of us are making (if only in our heads) procurement decisions based on data like yours. I'm sure we all intend to eat our food hot wherever possible. And if we can't we'll just have to suffer. Nobody is going to buy rations that taste worse hot on the grounds that they taste better cold. Maybe compromise? Eat a bit cold then heat it? Frankly I'd just microwave the suckers if those retort pouches were nuke safe. Also, for topic material, I'm thinking Japanese rations must be a corker? Food choices aside, their packaging must be ichi-ban.

Definitely a very old and out of date rat pack! But still 95% edible, which raises some questions 😂

I remember being introduced to the Australian Rat Pack when I joined the Australian Air Force 30 years ago. The instructor proudly said that the cheese in a can is called "bunghole" ......it will clog you up. And the cure for the cheese is the chocolate

Would've loved to see this in a camping setting but off course, its understandable your guests left and the pack was a bit lacking in freshness. Still, cant go wrong with Straya. Good shit, man. If only they sold these at the shops XD

Complaining about a cold curry and cold beef stew is an odd choice. they were never going to be good cold, the buddies in the field only do that if they absolutely have to

Watching Americans try Vegemite is one of life's little pleasures... It's nice to know that the rat packs haven't changed in the past ten years! Also, the trick is to eat the cheese during morning routine so you're gummed up on patrol, and then have the chocolate at night to get everything moving again...
@guppie198339 годин тому
You definitely missed out on the co-cooooofeee comment on the beginning. 😉😂 Also that grape sportsbeverage in the sealed bag looks like a blood transfusion bag due to the color. 😂

Put half the cheese in the mashed potato, some sweetened condensed milk in with the two fruits. I reckon you would have liked all the meals better boiled a bit in hot water rather than cold (and a bit less water in the mashed potato next time :) ) Pity you missed the FRED joke ;) Good effort young fella ;)

Like most things with Rat packs, if you have the time to prepare it all, you really can make wonderful meals... or if tactically you can eat it all cold, sadly. Ration packs have a shelf live of 7 years. The trick with the large chocolate bar if its 'white' is to turn it into a hot chocolate drink, in your cup canteen is to bring water to the boil and place the chocolate bar into the water until it melts. Yes the peach in syrup usually goes off, the acid in the syrup dissolves the lining of the tin. Lastly remember the difference between the 'old' Vietnam ration packs and the new ration packs - is that the new packs are actually eatable. We would eat the main meal at night for two reasons. 1. if its dark you cant see what your eating and 2. you usually had a blocked nose... so you couldn't smell it either.
