I found this video when I was. Was trying to find out how to best locate my stolen Onyx cty2 e-bike. Well, I guess I was really trying to locate the ble battery that it uses, but only so that i could find the bike itself. I've only owned it for 2 months, and I let it out of my sight for just 10 minutes, and someone stole it right off my front door patio! I've been trying nonstop to find it, and ive almost lost all hope of ever seeing that bike again. I've got a form of OCD, that wasn't bad at all, until a couple days ago when this happened, and now it's literally controlling my life, Aunt. I haven't even been able to accept the possibility that I will somehow have to forget about this, and move on with my life. Such a reality doesn't even seem possible right now. It's almost like my whole world's crashing down around me, and it's impossible for me to see a future which is anything close to positive. At least not right now anyway, and my mood and outlook is dwindling more and more by the moment.

What is Bonded or not bonded with BLE technology mean?
@NovelBits
@NovelBits Місяць тому
It means that the two devices are “paired” but the pairing persists across re-connections too. Paired refers to the connection being secure but only during that connection and if they become bonded, the pairing persists across consecutive connections and no need for pairing again.

@@NovelBits thank you...I'm having a hard time reading the information the app gives to discern whether or not a device is an unwanted tracker someone put in my car or not? What would be some info gathered from BLE Tester or Air tracker and the like Apps be that someone bought a Tag and hid it in your car? I was notified by several apps I'm being tracked but could not find it as they are so small, they are easily hidden...

Is there a Bluetooth transmitter that will pair with hearing aids(BLE)? Want to connect to airplane entertainment thru hearing aids.
@NovelBits
@NovelBits 4 місяці тому
Do the hearing aids support “LE Audio”? If so, there are some LE Audio transmitters that can take audio from a 3.5 mm port and transmit audio to compatible audio receivers. Keep in mind this feature is still very new and there’s limited support for it.

Good video. One detail I'm slightly unclear on: the peripheral advertises on a certain interval - if connectable does it also listen for connection requests from a central at a certain interval? Perhaps for a short time period after the advertisement is sent out? I'm assuming they do not listen all the time.
@NovelBits
@NovelBits 5 місяців тому
Yes. The peripheral is required to listen for a short amount of time (150 microseconds) after each connectable advertising packet in case a connection request is sent by a central device.
@JeremyCook
@JeremyCook 5 місяців тому
@@NovelBits Neat, thanks. Where does that 150ms specification come from?
@NovelBits
@NovelBits 5 місяців тому
It is a time spacing between packets that’s standardized in the spec and used in many places in the Bluetooth protocol. It’s referred to as the Time Interframe Spacing (T_IFS). This is defined in the Bluetooth Core Specification document. Keep in mind it’s microseconds not milliseconds 🙂

I need a Bluetooth preferably BLE device that DOES NOT NEED AN APP, I’ve heard this can be done with audio, mouse keyboard or heart tracker devices but how do I go about finding one all devices i see are BLE ibeacon that need an app
@NovelBits
@NovelBits 6 місяців тому
Bluetooth Low Energy devices all require an app to communicate with from a smartphone. Unless the device is a standard HID or Audio device (Classic Bluetooth), you’ll need an app to communicate with it. One exception would be a BLE HID device like a keyboard or mouse. But then the question is, what exactly do you want these Bluetooth devices to do?
@martinusher1
@martinusher1 6 місяців тому
I've no doubt that with suitable coding you can achieve reliable communications over long distances but my concern is that as you crowd the spectrum you increase the noise floor. This doesn't show up with lab testing but when you've got a whole bunch of devices trying to use the same spectrum space the floor comes up and eventually communication becomes unreliable. This doesn't matter that much unless you're using the link for real time control -- model aircraft (for example) have strict real time control needs and drop outs are leading to crashes from unpredictable loss of control situations. I went through all this rigmarole with WiFi development. Marketing continually pushed engineers to push the boundaries of what the technology could do. There is, unfortunately, no free lunch with radio. (Try your test on a crowded R/C field, not in the middle of nowhere.....)

I really like that this video presents the information concisely and densely. But I'd like to offer some critique. I know it's fashionable to cut speech segments right into each other with no gap between sentences, but would you please not do that? Pauses between sentences are part of the punctuation of speech, they help make it comprehensible, and that's more important than saving 0.3 seconds when you're explaining a complex topic. EDIT: I went looking for other tutorials, and look who I find. :) ukposts.info/have/v-deo/nYp4na6IsXigmI0.html I find that style much easier to assimilate, simply because the speech style is natural instead of being robotic and compressed.

I was referring to the direction finding method. For RSSI only, you don’t need an antenna board array and yes you should be able to use the devices you have. You’ll just have to use multiples of them as locators for one or more tags. Not sure though if there are any existing examples from SiLabs for implementing an RSSI based system. I would have to look into that. The algorithm and location engine implementation is where most of the work will be in an RSSI based system.

Thanks Mislav for the input. 100% agreed. For broadcast applications, you can have a much larger number of tags up to the point where they start to interfere with each other specifically in the advertising channels (37,38,39). I would say maybe 100+ tags is still feasible. But this also depends on the configuration parameters such as advertising interval and channels used.
