Just to be clear, I do not disrespect Villa, the name is legendary, they had a great run this year and I enjoyed watching them in EPL, but facts are facts: Aston Villa is being carried into the Champions League (CL) by the major clubs, ManCity, Arsenal, Liverpool etc, who keep EPL at the top of Europe and allow 4 CL spots.. and it just happened this year, Villa to play really good in EPL and reach the 4th CL spot - previous season they finished 7th. Olympiacos was always a CL team coming from Greece, never managed anything great in CL but they do have the experience. although there was a decline in both Greek football and Olympiacos in the past decade, they should always be a team to be respected especially down in Conference - they do have a CL mentality because they always won the greek league and entered CL every time. For me there was no surprise here. The only surprise was, I expected Villa to win at least one leg. And just for a heads up, both last season and the current season, the top 4 teams in the Greek league, they all had a chance to be Greek champions to a point's difference, things changed due to the greek playoff format where the best teams had to face each other again at the end of the season. So we could say that Olympiacos was good enough for CL both years, but lost points playing against the best teams in the greek playoff format. And also this 4-team-to-a-point's difference, is a very good indicator that Greek football is being more competitive and getting stronger and stronger by the years.. before that it was only Olympiacos with at least 15 points difference from the 2nd. And before anyone says that Villa was tired, they probably were yes... Olympiacos is tired too, the greek playoffs are still running in close dates, facing the top teams of Greece for the title..... I wish with all my heart for Aston Villa to improve in the following years and see them play in Champions League. They do have a legendary name to carry on...

PL teams certainly had a bad year, but let us not forget that Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all won the CL in the past few years (a PL team won it last year). Three CL teams winning it in a short space of time. Only one team from other leagues has won the CL over the past few years - Bayern and Real Madrid. It certainly shows that the PL has better overall strength. And let us not forget that PL teams have dominated the last stages of the CL over the past few years. So one bad year does not mean that the PL is inferior as some of the comments seem to suggest.
