I actually was a DJ when this was huge...radio and nightclubs...you'd play it a few times per night

No bloody radio plays this even as a flashback. I have the Cd still if any programmers want to ingest it for their digital playout systems...

The best and most powerful denunciation of the Tories ever recorded and there have been other very compelling examples by artists. Thatcherism has destroyed Britain since 1979 to the point of no return in view of the establishment's determination to maintain it at all costs regardless of its egregious effects. Blair sold Labour out by converting to its poisonous creed-Thatcher correctly described so called 'new' Labour as her greatest achievement. We live in Thatcher's Britain today on account of the damage she inflicted on society and the economy. The eighties was a nightmare for millions due to her cruel and heartless policies and the Tories in power since 2010 has been at least as bad.

The 1980s gave many of us nightmares about nukes. A gen x fear that all could / would pass and we couldn’t do anything about it.

Gota say back in the 80s you never saw many Caucasian muzos composing music with a reggae beat. This was definately a hit where I come from back in the 80s. We were raised around reggae scar music and rock. Reggae these days ain't like the O.G

The lyrics speak to themes of loneliness, self-reliance, and the complexity of human relationships. The song narrates the experience of someone who finds themselves in various forms of distress and isolation, whether it's physical coldness, hunger, or emotional vulnerability. Throughout these challenges, the narrator reflects on who would be there for them in their time of need, ultimately suggesting that the person who would stand by them is "probably me." This phrase, "it's probably me," repeats throughout the song, serving as both an acknowledgment of self-reliance and a lament about the lack of external support. The narrator seems to be someone who has struggled to open up and connect with others, making it difficult for them to form relationships where mutual support is given and received. Despite this, there's a recognition of a deep bond with at least one other person, hinted at by the willingness to sacrifice everything for them. The song touches on the idea that in a world filled with challenges and where support can be hard to find, the most reliable person one might have is oneself. However, it also suggests a longing for connection and a hope that there is at least one other person who truly cares and understands, even if acknowledging this reality is difficult. The repeated statements of reluctance to admit that "it's probably me" who would be the one to offer unwavering support, despite the difficulties in the relationship, underscore the complexity of human emotions and connections. It speaks to the struggle between wanting to be independent and self-sufficient, and the human need for companionship and understanding. The lyrics ultimately explore the depth of human resilience and the complexities of relationships, where love and loyalty can coexist with pain and difficulty in communication. It's a powerful message about the human condition, self-awareness, and the value of even a single, deeply understood relationship amidst the backdrop of broader isolation or adversity.

In the mid '80s the outro of the song was used as the theme song of a music video show on CFQC TV in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It was hosted by CFQC 600 Khz AM disk jockey Steve Shannon. Now if I could only remember what the title of the show was.... (CFQC radio is defunct.)

The only thing I don't get about this song: why it isn't Eric's backing vocals in coda.
