It is a good video to understand the outline. If you are going to make the Osaka Winter and Summer Campaigns, please explain the customs of imina. Without the premise that the act of calling a samurai by his real name was very disrespectful at the time, the Hokokuji incident would appear as if Ieyasu gave Toyotomi a false accusation.

I think It was messed up that Adams influenced Shogun to kill off the Catholic Converts.. Adams a protestant Christain, you don't knock out your fellow Christains just because they a different sect as Catholics.. I know they were at war, but still you in a new land.. You could have brought Protestant missionary also with Catholic missionary.. You could have both.. That is messed up.. Both sects can go to Heaven.. God had split the Christians into several sects. God is the one that made up the different branches.. Ok, maybe Catholics put Mary too high up.. But both Catholics n Protestant, can't keep the truth Sabbath.. So what's the big deal ? As long as you have Jesus as God or Jesus is the Truth, keep a conscience and stay on God's side, it could work out.. With all those 3, if any issue God will show you.. You just have to be stead fast..

6:20 How does an Icelandic skald, who lived in the early 1100s, compose poetry in perfectly rhyming modern English? Genuine question, not trying to be snarky. I tried to find the answer via Google but could not.

I would like to briefly write about the basics in order to help people overseas who don't know about Japanese history understand "Shogun". First of all, you must know the word "下剋上Ge-koku-jo". This is a process in which a powerful person of a lower position or status defeats a higher-ranking person and takes power, and was accepted during the Muromachi period (1336 or 1392-1573) and the Sengoku period (1467-around the end of the 16th century), is a social trend that has been implemented. The situation in those days was harsh, where foolish, tyrannical, or incompetent feudal lords would quickly lose their territory, so such feudal lords were replaced, killed, or expelled. I think it occurred naturally because if they didn't do that, they wouldn't be able to protect the livelihoods of the people in that territory. This trend had almost disappeared by the time of Hideyoshi, when the war had calmed down, but it was because this trend remained that Ieyasu was able to take over the country, which was the model for Toranaga, and was recognized by those around him. The next peaceful era in which social classes were fixed became impossible in the Edo period (1603-1867). The daimyos(feudal lords) of the Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu eras could never let the guard down even if they had served as vassals. Figuratively speaking, they are "wolves'' rather than "watchdogs'' or "hounds.'' If they are given chances, they would bite their masters to death. For this reason, those who were powerful enough to control the country were forced to bear a severe burden, creating a very tense relationship between them. Under the circumstances, betrayal and rebellion were common, and it was a matter of course that the punishment for those who committed such acts would be to kill all members of the family, including their retainers, as a warning to others. Ieyasu was able to take over the country because of the different qualities of their vassals and Hideyoshi's failure to succeed him. As Hideyoshi was an "upstart," he had no reliable and loyal old vassals. When Hideyoshi took over the country, his vassals were also promoted to daimyo status, but a conflict arose between these vassal daimyos, the factions of his legal wife and Hideyori's biological mother. In addition, although it was an unfortunate turn of events, his successor, his son Hideyori, was young and the coalition system supported by powerful daimyos from various regions was only a formality, so there were many opportunities for Ieyasu to take advantage of this. From the beginning, the whole country where Hideyoshi was the most powerful, was only obtained after Hideyoshi fought with Ieyasu and made the "biggest concession". In the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute (1584), which was a siege battle over a wide area that occurred 16 years before the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), the Ieyasu side, which was smaller numbers, skillfully concentrated its forces and conducted individual battles won. However, in the end, they succumbed to Hideyoshi's side, which tried to negotiate peace through diplomatic tactics. The "biggest concession" was that Hideyoshi unreasonably divorced his younger sister and made her a concubine for Ieyasu, in order to make Ieyasu take the form of vassalage, when Ieyasu was brought to Osaka, even his real mother was temporarily taken as a hostage to Tokugawa territory. If Ieyasu did not submit to Hideyoshi, it would return to the chaotic era before Nobunaga, and a third party would gain power, putting themselves in danger. Because of this situation, this peace was an "unstable peace'' that was skillfully staged by both sides. Ieyasu had always kept his ambition to take over the country hidden in his heart, so it was inevitable that he would act in this way after Hideyoshi died.

Alchemy wasn't even illegal, it was seen as an expensive hobby for rich people. A pope wrote a treatise about it. What was illegal was trying to turn base metals to gold, which was regarded as forgery, or invoking demons. Gilles confessed to the former but not the latter - it was the only admission he made without torture or the threat of it..

Honda Masanobu eh? I think I read that real Masanobu actually disliked by other Tokugawa generals due to his pada involvemrnt with the radical Ikko Ikki.. Ofc this is quite subjective as Ieyasu seems more lenient and willing to give his former enemies second chances,

Tokugawa Yoshinobu resigned as a shogun first in 1867 and gave the administrative power back to the emperor Meiji because the shogunate faced so much resistance at that time and people wanted the emperor rule again. However, Yoshinobu later created a council full of his retainers with him as the head, basically Yoshinobu was still a shogun without being called a shogun. This angered the Satsuma-Choshu rebels (aka Satcho alliance). Fearing that Yoshinobu would become too powerful and end up being as strong as Ieyasu if they didn’t take an immediate action, the Satcho marched to Kyoto to get an emperor decree that declared Yoshinobu as a traitor of the realm and confiscated all of Yoshinobu’s lands and properties. Yoshinobu knew this so he also marched his army to Kyoto. Their encounter led to the battle of Toba-Fushimi and kicked off the Boshin war. It ended in 1869 with the (in)complete overthrow of Tokugawa shogunate, the absorption of Hokkaido and Okinawa and most importantly, the Meiji restoration. The reason I said it’s an “incomplete” overthrow because many of the politicians in the Meiji parliament were former Tokugawa retainers. The prime example is Baron Shibusawa Eiichi, who was a close confidant of Tokugawa Yoshinobu and the modernization policy of Meiji government wasn’t that much different from Yoshinobu’s policy, just with a few more extra steps.

Such a turbulent era, everything the imperialists were fighting for in the boshin war (their Japanese culture and samurai values) were thrown out of the window as soon as they won the war. Then the satsuma rebellion happened and it was goodbye to the samurai class.

Well done sir, informative and very entertaining, thanks for that! Palnatoki, pronounced Pallnatokee, was a exceptional figure in the nordic saga because his preferred weapon due his reputation was the bow and no northman liked the killing from the distance really. A man had to face his enemy on a shield length. Many of the tales around the Jomsvikings are even just tales and some theories suggest that the real Norseman looked down on the Jomsvikings with disgust at their heritage out of Baltic and Slavonic tribes in the lower ranks. Nobody knows when the term Viking was used in the first time but for sure not then . Harald Bluetooth took over the trust in christianity after missionaries cured his toothache. Wollin, the city where Joms was ,was declared by the Soviets 1945 to the GDR means Eastern Germany but Poland occupied it against Stalin...Best regards from Northern Germany Ludwig.
