What a gorgeous engine! Sounds like your valve timing is in need of some tweaking still or possibly needs a different eccentric with more duration

im glad chinese copy everything, cause germans will sell you this engines for 100$ more, and chinese don't care about mass product so better price

A good Stirling engine needs compression. With adiabatic temperature rise in the order of the difference between the high temperature compartment and the low temp one. Only then will the optimal performance be achieved. Look at the Carnot cycle diagram of pressure and temperature.

Good video. I think you need to change your valve timing so the engine runs in the other direction, this means the crosshead pressure is on the standard, not the guide plates. This might make the engine run better & quieter?

Old video, but still applicable. I would go with some way to make the wheel plates removeable. I only use my cutter for trim and small fields for cutting grass. The rest is heavy brush, saplings. Grass cutting is only 2-3 times a year so no issue with bolting up or pinning of some sort. Shocked you are using a cutter with an non-enclosed cab. Hope you are safe out there.

I have one as well! A friend found it in a dumpster and gave it to me. Fixed a paddle switch finger and it runs like a champ. I love your accessory. What others do you have? I’d like to make a bronco buster lol.

Hi Doug. I think those Saf-Toy engines are great. I'm lucky enough to have 2. The first one is pretty rough but the second one is nice, even came with box and instructions. The the thing that goes on them is the leather seal on the end of the conrod. If the seal is ok you should be able to get the whistle to work. Never seen one with a black boiler before. Cheers, Alan.

The Chinese one is NOT a 6 cycle, but a standard 4 CYCLE hit and miss. This is shown by the ratio on the gear wheels. 2:1= 4 cycle. For 6 cycle it would be 3 to 1 !

Love the design of that engine! It's huge! I believe the original was designed by Harry Wedge. Some years back, "Home Shop Machinist" magazine ran an article entitled, "A Modified Wedge Oscillating Engine", which detailed making one from scratch, with no castings. That's where I heard of it. You've got an outstanding engine there!

Thanks for the video, Doug! You found a good one. The later models like this one had a diecast cylinder, and are notorious for wearing to the point of not working. Yours runs very well indeed!

The original Thompson engine had a 1" bore. So does your engine have a 1/4" bore? Looks bigger than that from the video. Nice work, though!
