Considering over 50% of the population are either functionaly illiterate or can't read above a 6th grade level.... it is highly likely that 1 in every 2 people you meet fall into that category. Now, if we talk about reading comprehension, that number gets even smaller. Educated does not mean intelligent. Edit: I had to come back after actually watching the whole video and reading the comments. 1. We have known since the 70s that there is a science to reading. 2. Sight words is the problem not the solution. 3. Sight words is how schools teach reading. Memorizing words will only get you to a 6th grade reading level. 4. Kids with I.E.Ps get pulled out during reading. That is the crucial part of third grade when grammer is taught. Many kids who had to have one on one for reading litterally were never taught grammer. 5. To all the grammer warriors online, you look more ignorant than the people you make fun of. Most people are simply commenting from a phone. The faster you move your fingers the more likely you are going to make a spelling or grammer mistake. No one who has a live worth living is checking their grammer on a you tube, facebook, or x post. 6. Reading to your kids every night helps build reading comprehension but does not teach reading. 7. Last, it is a systematic issue when not one public school in the nation teaches reading the way we know it should be taught. Again, we have known the science of reading since the 1970s!

The problem with your point at 8:30 is that the "why" questions are a much harder problem and aren't taught until much later, so most people never get to it. Skipping the trial and error part so you can stand on the shoulders of giants is the most efficient way to learn. And then you can understand the "why" questions later. What took generations of the most talented minds to create you can now comprehend before leaving high school, but in order to do so you don't have enough time to learn the "why". That comes later when we're at the bleeding edge of knowledge, where the "why" question tells us the direction to continue working.

Gender is a hard concept to understand. There's some inate knowing. Whether you get that knowing in early childhood, puberty or beyond. Gender is also a lense by which you and others view yourself. To use the example of Diplomas, I have a batchlers in Early Childhood Education and Development, Special Needs Education, and Electromechanical Engineering. If I work in Engineering I'm still a preschool and special ed teacher. If I work in Special Ed I'm still a preschool teacher and an engineer. If I work Preschool I am still a special ed teacher and I am still an engineer. Being transgender, me being a woman is just as much a part of me as being an Engineer, Special Ed or Preschool Teacher. Not in the way that I had to get a degree in woman. But in the way that it is one more concept for both me and others to understand me. If I were in a place where degree and gender dont matter, I am still a woman who can do Preschool, Special Ed, and Engineering. Gender is but one more lens by which light passes through to make the perfect color of me.

This is such an important point! Correlates with art, storytelling, and manifesting (spiritual/witchy). Neville Goddard said, "God is our wonderful human imagination". In Solarpunk circles, the reason why dystopian stories (film, novels etc) is common, it’s lack of imagination. Makes me think and wonder, why did they burn witches? Dictate that queer people are "mentally ill" or see tribal shamans/storytellers as "less than"? In How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, there’s a passage about visiting a mental hospital and a woman believed she was a queen and the psychologist went along with her ‘delusion’ because she wasn’t hurting anyone and it made her feel important and safe. Imagination itself is the cause of the 3D, this is why we need artist, storytellers to create and expand our conscious awareness and open our minds to better beautiful possibilities! As well as knowing how therapy helped me be aware of myself and improv classes helped me feel better overall- playfulness and imagination go hand in hand with mental wellness! It’s truly the antidote to trauma! Capitalism and any manifestation of such views is just a needy desperate desire for control out of fear of vulnerability and comparison. In art, I learned that nothing in nature is straight, the rivers, the trees, even our hands and facial features, yet everything man made aka society, it’s all straight, houses, buildings, and thus the conditioning to following rules and performing the "right way" not allowing us to think for ourselves and be creative! I can go on and on about this lol The facist imagination is based on fear and that’s why they seek control of the individual (Roe v Wade; gender norms) to the masses (oil, pharma, water aka nature) whilst the ever chill ever flowing artist seeks wonder, "what ifs", and the rule breaking favorite of "why not?". The imagination is based on fun, adventure, excitement aka expansion- this is why dystopia stories suck bc it’s bleak and have no hope for the future. In spirituality, there is not purpose of life, the purpose of life is just to BE and self expression! That’s what gender is, a self expression of our own true nature, sexuality is the physical playfulness of our nature, and the reason why I, and like many, have anxiety and depression is due to the learned shame and guilt of just being our true selves! Play is not shameful, play is freedom!!

13:25, 16:49 - That's entirely wrong. White supremacists _can_ imagine black philosophers, they just want to make sure they don't exist. Patriarchy _can_ imagine women leaders, they just want to make sure they don't exist. Cis-heteronormaticity _can_ imagine trans people, they just want to make sure they don't exist. The fascists _can_ imagine the end of all oppression and of all class divisions, and they want to stop that future at all costs, because they either are or want to be the oppressors. Fascism suppresses imagination because intellectual work has always been a priviledge of the ruling classes. Even now that scientists, engineers, artists, etc. are proletarianized, the ruling classes seek to constrain such workers to only the objective technicalities of intellectual production. They do that, for example, by treating politics as a matter that scientists, engineers and artists shouldn't think about, leaving it to other people who will be designated the task of political thought. Those people, of course, would be the ruling classes themselves. Scientists, in particular, are taught to follow given methods, rather than correct them or expand upon them. _"Creative labour occupies an important place in an economic life. Through their labour people create the material and cultural wealth they need in their life and, in the course of this, train themselves into more powerful beings. An ideological and cultural life is an important aspect of a social life. Through their ideological and cultural life people develop their independent ideological consciousness and creative ability, satisfy a variety of their cultural and emotional needs and acquire noble mental and moral traits."._

The reason schools don’t value creativity is because the American school system was created to churn out good, obedient, loyal factory workers who can read and follow instructions and perform specific functions flawlessly for extended periods. Asking “well what if I do this instead?” Is dangerous in a factory while dealing with machines. They don’t care about the creativity of factory workers. You aren’t there to create, you’re there to produce. They want people who think the same, and don’t question the status quo. The ones who are meant to be making decisions went to different schools with other rich kids who will be handed the world and power. If you went to public schools, your creativity and independent thought not only put them at risk of a lawsuit (you getting hurt on a machine that can end you in moments, or change your life going forward), or threaten the power structure (unions, or questioning why things are done as they are, or worse, coming up with other options). The people at the top don’t want us thinking. Is thinking is dangerous because eventually we’ll wonder “what happens if we use another power structure?” As that removes the unearned money and power from the top.

I think you are mixing up the concept of facts with the concept of "what to do with these facts". Sometimes it sounds, that it is ok to not acknowledge facts. But what you are actually trying to say is: Facts always need interpretation and it is the basic belief system that does this interpretation. E.g. black neighbourhoods being more dangerous might be true and might even be true if police would not show up so often. But the question is what I do with this fact? Do I make a better world, where crime becomes unneccesary? Or do I believe people are bad and punishment is the only option? Facts are facts, Shapiro is right on that, but not with the implication: so there is nothing we can do about it.

Imagination posits the possibility that things could be done or thought about differently, that the status quo or tradition is not the best or most moral option. That is a threatening prospect for fascism, which demands uniformity and conformity to a mythologised vision of what society must return to. To imagine is to look forward to a potential future, whereas facism valorises a past that never actually existed.

1:03 im not sure that people don't play pretend, it's just something the rich can do more effectively. I see plently of people with no skill show up to a racetrack in a fully kitted out racecar living out the fantasy of being a racecar driver. Way too many rich people "play pretend" at running a business. Also, sports teams are sometimes referred to as the owners oversized action figures. So I'd say it still happens, it's just a lot easier to do seriously with resources.

One thing I tried once is an ethical minecraft run. Maybe not 100% realistically ethical, but much more so than usual; specifically in how I treated villagers, always building full housing for them and trying to protect them from danger and make their simple, fictional little lives better. It was really fun and nice. I'd recommend trying it

This kinda makes me understand why so many of the AI apologists... who defend "generated imaging"... are fascists or proto-fascists Before I say more, I think the technology is interesting and cool... Think when it can be used in an ethical way..there might be a use for it... however I'm talking about the people who defend the idea that it somehow will take over all of the "creative jobs" in the world or something. A number of these people can't imagine transcending the box. Can't imagine innovation. All they want is a way to produce similar but not entirely different art.

love learning that billions of lives have arguably been ruined because of some pompous narcissistic shitheads that elected themselves high positions of power played pretend with whole groups of peoples lives at stake. So much suffering in human history caused by the egos of those who’ve held false and stolen prosperity from people who they refuse to believe they have anything in common with them, despite the fact science proves the exact opposite. It’s asinine and existentially horrifying seeing how many people WILLINGLY DEFEND this kind of parasitic social system just because they benefit from it. I had three therapists in a row who told me to grow up, focus on career, get married and have children. I told them all how I missed out on so much in my youth and wanted to have fun “Too bad,” they said. “You’re an adult now, adults work.” I told them about my hobbies as a cosplayer, and how if I went back to school while working at a full time job that was both physically and emotionally exhausting, I wouldn’t have time for my hobbies They said “but that’s just play, adults don’t play. Adults work. Brandon…… I’m ashamed of you for even saying all of this. You’re way too old for imaginary friends or fantasy roleplay… you need to be realistic and focus on your career!” Needless to say they made my depression far worse. But that’s what is so heavily beaten into our brains

I think your therapists may have been frauds. that is ridiculous for a therapist to say, most people would literally say "do what makes you happy." I've learned that as I get older, the less I care what people think of what I do. I love video games, books, and reading socialism, and I just leave my lenin books, fiction books, and street fighter posters around, not particularly caring for whoever comes over would think. I know this is easier said than done, but good luck.

2:24 demanding your children to listen to you and refusing to explain why it is literally authoritarian parenting and it has been proven in psychology to be damaging and ineffective. They are actively spreading misinformation. Psychological show that authoritative parenting, where you actually explain to the child why they have to do something and what’s important, is far more effective.

Ironic, isn’t it?

@~30:00, Re. Stanford prison experiment. I'm an excon, new prison employees were taught to be terrified of the convicts. Especially new female staff. When a new librarian was hired, she'd been told we were so "dangerous" that, for the first few months, she was constantly on edge. She was a nice lady and a great librarian. When I left, she'd been there 5 years. If anyone ever tried to do anything to her, they'd have to get thru the 5 convict library staff first and any other cons around at the time. At Augusta Correctional Center, when a female staff member was attacked, it was another convict who fought off the much bigger/stronger attacker so she could get away.
