There's heaps of open face cut mineshafts around Brisbane...my nextdoor neighbour has one down the back...it goes roughly 20m or so before hitting a wall...I know of another 5 in my general area (easy walking distance) some go a few metres to long enough to make a decent echo in...all cut into rock faces....there's even a few massive open cut quarry mines in the national Forrest that borders where I live. The area is old volcanic ground...some are filled with water after hitting natural underground springs etc....ive jumped into one holding a small boulder Until all I could see was just pure black darkness in every direction after going through various stages of clear green to merky green...after going from dark to darker to even darker then just black lol it put absolute fear into me and I let the small boulder go and started thrusting towards the surface jellyfish style lol...my fear eased once the green layers started making an appearance then sunlight penetration....my mate paddled a few stones out on a old surfboard he brought one time and we rolled them off one at a time and put one ear under the surface of the water... after what felt like minutes we heard a faint TICK sound each time...dunno if it was hitting bottom or possibly old machinery left behind....most of the walk in shafts were abandoned after gold percentage to dirt ratio wasn't worth the time & effort...a lot of iron stone iron ore and volcanic rock...I had a friend who thought he hit the jackpot after digging the red dirt ground in his backyard to lay a slab down for a shed and finding magnetic rocks in the process...he thought a meteorite in the past had shattered on impact on his property lol....hate to be the bearer of bad news but red dirt in Aus iron isn't far away

the kidney donor spared this man a very miserable life. a man can live without any functional kidney nowadays. they "just" have to get regular appointments to get a dialysis (process of cleaning up blood through a machine which takes almost 4 hours) and while a man could technically live like this, 4 hours session of discomfort and vertigo 3 times a week to survive is no way to live decently. i'm happy for him.
