I don't like how it turned out. The item looks modern rather than new vintage. IMHO - it has become worse than it was. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend your work.
@robusthedgehog2 дні тому
You're the first UKpostsr I've ever seen doing it right: restoring the edge with a file not an angle grinder or any other electric tool.
@CoolAgainRestoration11 годин тому
Thanks a lot 👍
@robusthedgehog4 години тому
@@CoolAgainRestoration no problem. I just hope it inspires other people to do it the same way. I've seen too many axes and other tools being destroyed by morons with power tools who don't know nothing about frictional heating and heat treatment of steel.
@anthonyvincent58922 дні тому
Well, that's all the originality taken away...including the casting defects. What a shame. It wouldn't have looked like this new.

You did a wonderful job. Where fid you get the sticker from? Also what would charge for this restoration?
@CoolAgainRestoration2 дні тому
Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed Liz ! I bought the sticker from eBay , was the last one from the seller and made it wrong . The sticker has some typo but the seller made me another one . This restoration was for a client and if I remember well , he paid $1800 for the work and $520 shipping . He liked a lot and paid $300 extra .

@@CoolAgainRestoration thank you. I recently bought one of these presses for home canning apple and grape juice, but also needed a sassage press. So this press was perfect. I came to youtube to see if there was any restoration videos and I found yours.

I need to watch the video. The thumbnail looked like a steak. (EDITED)

Should I change the thumbnail ?

No! Not at all! 🙂 I see it as an axe head now, but even if not, who doesn't like steak? 😁

Pretty sure that's wrought iron with a steel bit. You probably ground most of the bit off. But the iron would have looked like wood grain if you used an acid like instant coffee to etch it. Nice work on the handle
@CoolAgainRestoration3 дні тому
Yeah , there is wrought iron with steel bit . That’s why the water corroded the iron more than the steel 👍 I have few people here who know that , glad you are one of them 😊 thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed the handle 👍

Nice result but this isn't restoration
@CoolAgainRestoration3 дні тому
The word Restoration has many meanings but you have right , it is more like a restomod. But because of UKposts algorithm and because people love more restorations than modifications, I had to put the word Restoration in the title . Probably if I had to write restomod or customization , this video have 20k views and probably you won’t be able to see it because UKposts doesn’t show you 👍

Grazie mille Marco 👍

Nice job. I've restorated axes before, but I don't put THAT much effort into it, after all it's just a tool :) I use vinegar + tin foil to remove the rust or put it in cheap toilet cleaner with hydrochloric acid for a few hours

What do you do with the bits of metals that you shave when you shape the metal?
@CoolAgainRestoration3 дні тому
Usually when I work with metals and I have to grind a lot , I use a magnet to attach all the dust and small metal particles and I put them in a barrel where I keep the lathe metal shavings too 👍

Excellent work! That’s a beautiful hammer. I also enjoy restoring hammers, but you take it to the next level. That is some absolutely gorgeous wood that you made your handle from. I also like the contrast between the polished faces and the corroded areas from which the rust roughened it up. Again, beautiful work!!
