you know, I think the satellite being disabled did more than most people give it credit for. If you look closely, it doesn’t seem like Mechagodzilla uses any more hollow earth energy after the satellite is disabled, which seems to imply that the satellite was transmitting the energy signature to Mechagodzilla. It was only running after that due to a significantly weaker backup power source. So I think that, had the humans not intervened, Mechagodzilla would’ve killed both of them.

Ghidorah was the absolute worst choice to give access to Mechagodzilla's arsenal. Not just because he's evil and sadistic, but because he's also crafty as hell and prefers to fight dirty. Not only does he match Godzilla in strength blow-for-blow, but he also has enough tricks in his arsenal to keep Godzilla from maintaining a strong advantage, throwing him off and disorientating him. I genuinely believe that even if fully powered, Godzilla would have lost without Kong's help.
