Unfortunately, this guy takes a very broad subject that includes Hindus, for instance, who see Hindu gods, and picks and chooses which NDE experiences prove his religious version. For instance, the people who have distressing NDEs with hell experiences are very, very few, and yet other NDEs have people in heaven who would be in hell, according to Christians.

But he can't speak to the restrictions, self hate and negativity that children are immersed in who grow up in many religions (catholic in my case) Thank god' religion is on the way out and maybe we can take the kindness and compassion of the sermon on the mount and bring it to discussion, the streets, action and economics

I found it very intriguing to hear her speak about the barrier between male pastors and women. She mentioned this very early on in the podcast. As a female pastor, I recognize the same challenge with my male parishioners. I would be very interested In hearing a podcast that explores barriers to pastoral care and fellowship because of gender. And of course, how we could overcome them!

When JMC says he believes the future of church (Sunday morning context) is around "tables" I got a quick thought of AA meetings "around these tables" and "in these rooms" and felt so at peace.

The goal of those who brought the allegations were evil and sinister. They used the “me too” movement to destroy the pastor and the church as an act of vengeance and self promotion. No one bothers to dig into the details, only headlines and the subsequent controlled “optics” and few have decades of experience in the church. “Sex scandal” implies much more than reality. “Power abuse” also implies more than reality. I have 40 years of attending and volunteering at Willow. Yes, Bill protected himself because there had been numerous threats against him, including those closest to him. His refrain was he wouldn’t hug people. He felt he needed to isolate to avoid misunderstandings and also people who were dangerous. He managed Willow carefully and the result was a thriving and inspiring church bringing tens of thousands to Christ. Doing so is not done casually or without making enemies. Many of the congregation were hurt by the deceptive nature of the allegations and the carefully disguised motivation to destroy Bill and Willow. To this day, they make a living off their pathetic painting of their “hurt and healing” - anyone who challenged their perceptions were intensely cancelled. Yes, people wanted Willow to fail. Dave is a leader of a shadow of the former church which has failed under his leadership. The church went from 6 thriving services to 2 poorly attended services a week. Neither of you have any significant experience with bill or Willow. Neither of you understand a church of that size with a leader of that level of exposure were targets of many threats. It is no coincidence there were no significant safety issues for the congregation. It’s sickening to hear these inferences of how terrible the “abuse” was when there is no one to tell the other side. I’ll tell you now the church is no longer the Christ following church it had been. The staff is careless and half ass. Easy to come and go or attend once a year and trash bill or how Willow had been run. Look at it now and you’ll see it is a shell of its former self with a culture of abusing its employees and a lack of excellence. There’s little community and a feeling of no disciplined, committed leadership. I’m grateful for the memories of a much better time in willows life that was destroyed in an instant by greedy, self absorbed, vengeful enemies of the church.

I am a Sunday School teacher at a UMC church. I have taken Adam at his word that he is a big-tent moderate for years now. I've even had to defend my use of his group study materials to my fellow conservative parishioners who did not trust his teaching. They considered him a liberal in a moderate's clothing. I ignored them. I typically found Adam's lessons thoughtful, fair, and even handed and he has always asserted a "via media" approach (just as he does here in your podcast). He is an extremely likable and convincing personality and easily the most popular figure in the UMC by far. He has time and time again again given assurance that traditionalists would still be included with open arms in the UMC and that there would be no animus against conservatives in a live-and-let-live new era of peace and coexistence. I listened to his daily reports last week from the General Conference. The picture he painted was that it was the most loving and wonderful GC in his lifetime and that the clouds had finally parted and a hopefulness pervaded everything. The big tent was finally here. All was finally well. Then I later watched the proceedings for myself. Nothing could have prepared me for the onslaught of vitriol and disdain for traditional belief on display as it became immediately evident the conference was a DEI rally that made identity politics the central focus of every moment. Every speaker had to begin by publicly stating their ethnic and sexual identities and the white straight people dutifully confessed and begged forgiveness for their privilege. Some white speakers said they actually had nothing to contribute to certain discussions because they were white. Never mind that they were fellow Christians. Jesus Christ was mentioned only in relation to his "centering of the oppressed." Arguments began over whether to add an Indigenous Stolen Land Acknowledgment statement to every proceeding. This prompted a railing against "process and procedure" altogether because they are colonialist constructs used for oppression. On and on this madness went. It was like the worst liberal arts college leadership meltdown you can imagine. SO - I don't know what conference Adam Hamilton saw. But it wasn't that one. He claims it was sunshine and bunnies and that conservatives are still vitally important to the denomination. I don't believe it. And I can no longer believe him. I feel betrayed by him.

You're talking about an America that never existed. He's been privileged for so long that he can't see the 99% AT ALL. He's making himself richer by pretending to be an advocate for men while continuing to profit from and denigrate men. I was poor, not an "immigrant", didn't qualify for pell grants while supporting a dad with Parkinson's and a mom with breast cancer. No one lifted a single finger to help me, while being a permantly injured veteran that couldn't even use my GI bill. His class and generation completely screwed me. I spent the winter mixing concrete by hand with a torn meniscus and the VA doing everything they could to keep from fixing it. No one cares. I volunteered to defend this country in the infantry while having the highest GT score in every unit I was in. No one cares. I was in the top 10% of my high school, a famous one they made a TV show about, and still didn't get scholarship of any kind. I had to work yhrough HS and never did homework. No one cares. All this began in the 80's. It has only gotten worse. He's promoting the policies that helped me so much I can't use the words I want to describe the level of disdain I have for his social cast and politics. America is over. Welcome to amerika comrades. Keep voting, cause that's working. That's sarcasm.

I remember once hearing Matt Chandler talk about the need for pastors who stay… He spoke of the trend of young celebrity pastors growing a church, gaining an audience, getting a book deal, then leaving the church to go into itinerant speaking tours where they would speak on podcasts and to megachurches and at mega-Xian-conferences and sell their Christian books to Christians (who wouldn’t exist without the church)-all the while speaking and writing about how “the institutional church” basically has it all wrong and it’s really all about this or that form of spirituality or evangelism or discipleship or “community,” whatever it is they’re promoting and writing about… Feed my sheep.

The fucking govt is killing us! There will NOT be a middle class anymore. I have a 20 yr old high fuctioning autistic son and our future is NOT bright. We lost our home back in 2013's fall. Husband was a union worker n was laid off we lost everything. It's now 2024 and we can not get ahead since! Husband is still in the union and I work full time as a quality manager at a engineering firm. Husbands work is slowing down again and about to get laid off for a yr before the next job will start building. FJB, fuck congress we need term limits! Systems are far mote interesting than individuals becayse without a system an abusive leader can’t do nearly as much damage. There were many people in leadership positions at Willow Creek who knew what was going on and did nothing. We have to understand that. I’m more interested in the 50 or 100 people that do nothing than i am in thr one person doing evil. Some of the enablers were smart, talented people who knew better.

Steve Carter has used this platform to promote himself. He literally ran off the stage at Willow like a toddler rather than as a senior pastor. He and Nancy beech have used this to their advantage which is disgusting. This entire story was a scheme to defame Bill Hybels and Willow Creek but the cancel culture doesn’t allow that perspective. There are more holes in this story than Swiss cheese but few have been around or close enough to the situation to know the truth. I call bullshit on Steve Carter and his worldwide healing tour. I love Jesus but some of his friends are total hypocrites, like Steve Carter.

There are homeless camps coast to coast across the country, almost all men. Politicians don't even mention it. No one cares! If it happened that woman were living in tent cities the national guard would be out, songs and benefits would be held. But men on the street not a word by anyone, the message is clear what society values and its not men.

I am 46, I look around see overweight women celebrated for everything. Men are the cause of every problem it is never women's fault. Go online and search for private and programs for women, you will get hundreds of hits for school, housing, Healthcare. Do the same search for men and boys nothing. I drive around and see homeless camps mostly men. If I get married and divorced who is out of house? Who is paying alimony? Me, that's who. I could go on but the message is clear that I am here to work and give it all to a woman and if I don't I am thrown away. I'd rather not even get involved, I work hard and keep all my money. Because no one is going to help me, women start 70% of all divorces largely over money. No one is helping those homeless men. What is my insensitive to not play video games all day?

An hour before an anticipated bedtime, his demeanor changes after being Capt InCharge to "take charge of me", HIS needs still. You cannot be a control freak from morning til night time, then change moods for 30 before bed. When life revovled around 4 kuds, we never had time, nor did we make the time. But feeling used and abused, nice for 30 - 60, minutes out of the blue. His motives had one purpose, and the ONLY time attention was given. Got OLD. Let's hear a man's excuse for WHY they think we're that "cheap" to succumb to THAT APPROACH.

You know what celebrates a female leader…not making her talk about being a female leader and letting her just talk about being a leader. The podcast title starts at 1 hour. Come on dude. Click bait. Ill still probably buy her book.

The Presbyterians in New Zealand have had a self-reporting system for at least 15 years. I know of one case personally and it was handled, I believe, with significant grace and to the satisfaction of the other party. The person involved made a full recovery after some significant time out of ministry. The interesting thing about this was that the whole incident was recognised as a cry for help after burn out.

Very provoking discussion. In many good ways. A couple questions I have. There was a comment in regards to Gen X mom‘s being able to be a great resource in the church. One challenge is simply speaking, that there are not that many Gen X moms actually going to church. Most churches have a demographic of about 70% 60 and older. Second question, the idea that there needs to be more female leaders may be a challenge in that from most of what I have seen in the church, most of the leaders are actually female. There is just not that many men leading in churches. Percentage wise, it’s about 25%. I’m speaking of the smaller church, of course. And the smaller church is what is the norm. Some of this may be just personal opinion, but I think there’s some truth there. Would love some thoughts.

Your closing discussion about churches being Sunday centralists brings up the issue of Sabbath to me. The church pushes that everyone needs to find a serving role on Sunday, as a greeter, helping with kids, and more. Doesn’t this take away from a day of Sabbath because most people work full time Monday thru Friday, then catch up on chores around the home, attending kids activities, and everything else that doesn’t fit for the rest of the week on Saturday? When everyone returns to work on Monday, then the church staff takes a real Sabbath day for themselves. What am I missing?

I watched this podcast. Then, I took a trip down memory lane and remembered the virtue and caliber of woman my grandmother. Hmmm. Yeah. Sorry. Way out of touch. Need to recalibrate and jettison the woke goggles.

Well, get off social media. Very Young people making zillions of dollars is usually a lie to get attention and views. If someone falls for it they are foolish. Where are their parents to help them grow up and negotiate life challenges.
