@GingerGM Damn it, Simon! 20 years later you are STILL playing with lagg from the mouse/computer! It has nothing to to with PC hardware, it's just configuration of windows or the browser you use. Ask for somebody, a friend, I don't know, to go check it out. It's impossible to play at high level if you can barely play the moves when it goes to scramble time because you have video lag. What kills me is that at somepoint you had that solved, and now it got back again. Besides that, cheers! Great content and video as always.

Just watching some older vids because they're so much fun. In the last game you wonder why your opponent starts aggressive and then goes passive. I know I find myself doing that, and I think us lower rated players sometimes "scare ourselves", and start thinking we're over doing it. That's one thing I've learned to work on from watching your content. Start hard, go hard, and enjoy the ride! :)

com's rating estimate thing does calculate based on your current rating. It's a completely meaningless number for this reason among several others. You could make a smurf account at 400, play a perfect game and the thing would probably say you played at 800 level or some nonsense because it won't give too far above the account's rating.
@DeLunny2 дні тому
Yeah, it's a really odd feature. Like the basic idea is great but the way it's implemented is meaningless. Maybe it would be too difficult to do it properly, I don't know.
@bwright2274 години тому
I guess something of value you could take away is whether you're playing above or below your current rating.
@JeffPHamm2 дні тому
Fun game. And yes, the Elo estimator factors in the rating of both players (if you edit the values in a PGN file, say drop them both to 800 or raise them both to 3000, the estimated rating will drop or rise accordingly).

Hey Simon, you mentioned your videos helping people to get through tough times, and I felt that I must write this comment. I found you on UKposts in 2016 when my wife and I lived apart on the opposite sides of the globe for a whole 9 months. I felt very low then as it was mostly caused by my not-so-well-thought decisions, but watching your videos was one of the very few bright moments that I had those days. We have been reunited since then and moved to the UK (London, actually), but I have kept watching your videos ever since for 8 years straight. Just wanted to say thank you. Keep it going, and I wish you luck in your chessboxing match! Would love to support you, but North Norfolk is a bit too far!

"chess podcasts are not that exciting, i could be listening to a podcast about aliens, improving my health, the latest developments in AI" - GingerGM ...I hope he was joking. I'd rather listen to 100 hours of chess non stop, than 10 minutes of AI or health. OR aliens hahahaha
@tinbadger80973 дні тому
Last game was a good classical Drunken knight on acid round the world variation. The point is to eventually develop the knight onto h2 to defend the king. Very thematic play by S. Williams.
@slagorourke3 дні тому
Yes, the rating it gives you is based on your current one. I played a 100% accuracy game in 11 moves the other day (1st time ever!) and it told me I'm a 2000. My actual blitz rating is 1300.

Been on a huge ginge binge recently! Simon, instead of the crafty bishop sacrifice, why not just a simple Qe5+ which would either win the rook or at least remove castling rights after opponents queen blocks? What did I miss here?
@terrobert3 дні тому
queen would block and his king was still on that file
@alexgregorieff63393 дні тому
Was asking myself why he didnt thanks bob
@MartsMcfly3 дні тому
But then Qxe7 and the king has to take back, losing castling rights. Thought that was definitely a better idea than the bishop sac. Guess it's not as "exciting" play but I was surprised Gingey boy didn't even mention it as an idea. @@terrobert
