In this series they speak Classical Latin. They use the pronunciation from Caesar times. The pronunciation used nowadays by the Roman Church is called ecclesiastical, it's more recent and it's closer to Italian.

It's the correct pronunciation used 2000 years ago. Full stop. Latin went through fonetical changes as much as English from Shakespeare times to nowadays. The pronunciation used in this series it's known as classical or restituta. But you know... there are people who believe in flat Earth. So it doesn't surprise me there are people who deny linguistics.

The show is German, you will have the entire show with subtitles in a language(or more) nobody knows, something that only history freaks (who will be the large minority) would want, the average consumer will only be bothered by having to read everything. Foreigners without dubbing have no option, of course.

They are speaking modern German. They arent speaking Proto German. Proto-German has changed a lot, just look at how much English has changed in 1000 years and that's one Germanic language or how American English differs from British English, Aussie English, and South African English ect. Now if you were to dial it back to 2000 years ago, where there was no Swedish, English, German, Norwegian where they spoke one language (Proto German) it'd sound very different.

This TV series is not real. This is not what the Romans were doing in real history. In reality the Romans were there to make friends, to establish lasting alliances and connections to call upon as they prepared for a long-term occupation. They would not have been going around pointlessly antagonizing anyone. The show added these fictional elements to make you root for the Germans.
