My 4012 works fine with switch AM/FM, but only have 1W on AM and FM the same....no Power switch ;-(

Good but fidlely mod. Your will also find the the Icom IC-9700 has the same battery and problem as mine one has developed that fault. The 9700 was used for at lest two or three hours alost every day, Then the 12.8v PSU was switched off after use, but after two years (then out of warranty) the Icom battery died. Can someone tell me the number of the diode used please.

What would cause an Icom 756Pro3 to churn out a heap of noise and have almost no reception, even of local AM.

How many watt must the Adapter produce .?

Wie immer eine saubere Arbeit.

I know it's a 5 years old case, but anyway... I got similar fault in very fast, 2x9pin needle printer with huge power supply unit. The PS unit was switching off after about two seconds from Power On. All voltages were OK (I had to measure them with oscilloscope), no symptoms of shortage in the mainboard, motor drivers etc. The PS was receiving an "emergency power shutdown" signal from CPU. The problem was caused by one of the resistors in voltage divider measuring one of the PS output lines. It changed the value from 20k to 40k, so the measured voltage seen by CPU was 3V instead of 1.5V. So it looked like an overvoltage and CPU immediately halted the PSU. It took me 3 days to find this resistor as at first glance 3V looked quite a good value for a 5V Z80 based CPU, until I made proper calculation ;).

Dayum, I've been roughing it with my ic7100 for years and that would be quite a big change... but I don't have the skills to make that change, oh well...

Good vids, just a tip, always start by firmly stating the current issues with equipment along with any other know info that might help ie. customer said it produced smoke just before quitting. :}

I see the ring tester is no longer in production. How would I use a standard ESR meter to know if the coil is damaged if I don’t know the value the transformer should have?

My Kaiweets 206D shows quickly at startup battery power on the screen. Even though I have new batteries it still shows ~25% power when I turn it on. Does your meter do the same? Thanks and great video!

Interesting video, thank you. A year or so ago, i wanted better frequency stability from a transceiver that I was working on. To avoid the on/off hysteresis, I went with PWM generated with an arduino. The switching frequency had to be fairly high but that was no problem. The end result was very stable temperature control, and very stable frequency control. Thanks for sharing.

Can you help me make modification for this MH31 by adding treble, mid and bass trimmers for adjusting the mic quality and of course using a condenser mic capsule.... ?

Peter, this is most interesting. What is this conductive salt-like substance? Is it caused by moisture? Could it be caused by the lack of a fan in this particular model because of its small size? Hello Peter - Thank you for such a really great video. I enjoyed your circuit analysis, you made it very clear and understandable. My initial thoughts was that is a filter problem but you never know really what other components may have gone down. I enjoyed your process of elimination and the final location of the problem. Jeez, if I was to be working on circuitry that is so compact and minuscule I would need a week off to recover 😵‍💫. 73 Peter de EI6DP

They don't always have that crystalline crud on the outside of the filters. Have been doing a lot of Vertex HT's that have the ceramic filter plague problem. They usually have a oily substance on the outside. I think it's the plastic decomposing. Vertex has a TSB that covers the issue in their radios. There was a couple year timeframe that TSB covered. Before and after that timeframe they seem to hold up fine.

If I understand correctly: That filter is only used in Narrow FM? So if the radio could have been switch to Wide FM for the 145MHz band it would have worked fine?

I guessed a TOKO filter, before you opened it. But OK it was not that type, but anyway, the filter fault is so well known, I have a stock of all varieties that I could find on RS and Element14/Farnell. I have even found these filters create the spots of liquid, when not even used or been in a PCB after some years. I have repaired my own Ts-2000 and Ft-817nd that had this fault, and for many other OM's. The brand of Filter I have had best success as replacement, is Japan type "Murata". P.S. I do not repair for money, as I have retired more that 10 years ago. ZL2ALW Andrew

Peter has changed so many of those bad filters he has bought them in bulk. Kenwood has a dual band radio that had the same issue with bad filters. In fact I think you did a video on it. Good video as always. I would have put gloves on before I touched that bad filter, it looked stuff was growing on it.
