Well, if they could get more than 29% of them to be mission capable. That would be a good start...

The fuel is not sucked out, it is pressed out by the higher (barometric) pressure in the float chamber. In my opinion Sir Ricardo was ranking formost. Why did the Americans turn to fuel injection so lately? By the way, thanks a lot for the explanation!

But what is the individual aspect and initiative of a pilot in Western combat doctrine? All armies depend on the execution of orders from the command Is it related to leaving the details of mission execution to the pilot ?

The only problem the F35 will cause to Russia is the way to prevent their pilots to laugh their asses off wnen they will see it appear in the sky. It flies like an anvil would, and when the US officials qualifie the F35 as an expensive failure, it is perhaps time to stop dreaming.

Very interesting discussion! There are so many variables; materials, fuel, manpower. One consideration that would be worth taking into account is that targets that had heavy flak defences were probably less likely to be attacked; I'm thinking here of the U-boat pens in France and the Tirpitz in Norway. Raids on these targets were likely to suffer very large losses (they were also, mostly, ineffective too), so it's possible that flak had a deterrent effect. It think, however, there is no 'right' answer; it depends on the resources; there is, for example, no point in building fighters if you have no pilots and no fuel, but you may be able to deploy flak, for which pilots are not required, and in Germany flak was being operated by men unsuitable for military service by reason of age. Another point, from UK experience, is that AA guns were deployed around London because, whatever their effectiveness may have been, their presence reassured the population. The wider availability of personnel to staff them would have also been a consideration. Thankyou for publishing this interesting discussion.

Brilliant channel👍. Could you do a show on drone shoot-downs and the various ways this is being tackled by Ukraine? For example are helicopters part of effective defence against dones? Or light aircraft with a gunner firing sideways? Or a cheap AAM? What about the AV8B shooting down Houti drones?

Is this a spoof video or a MIC promo one? This is nothing more than clickbait for the rabid Uber Alles brigade! Both China and Russia have vast hinderlands and the one key attribute of the F-35 is its comparative lack of range (one of the rationales for B-21 programme another 'networked asset') hence all the extreme long range AAMs designed to take out tankers and other support aircraft that have popped up as a means of neutalising the threat. As Japan and Germany found in WW2 just occupying the European/Coastal parts of the respective countries doesn't ultimately add up to much! Bleating on about a function that's arguably better performed by a flock of drones and selling it as a headache for power A or B is laughable especially when said aircraft has yet another delay in delivering the block 4 upgrades that provides the necessary refreshed hardware and software now slated to complete in 2029, repleat with a $6 billion dollar cost overrun from original estimates, now who's having the actual headaches, the GAO perhaps!

Recently, the Singapore defence minister said F35s were operating in the Ukraine theatre. And it’s performance exceeded expectations. Singapore proceeded to buy 8 more F35As immediately, on top of 12 Bs. One can only speculate what aspect he was referring to.

The F35 was conceived up from the beginning to be .Open architecture modular design , The technology lockouts are an important part of how it was to be used diplomatically geopolitically , This program is in a constant state of development , So much of that can happen with simple software upgrades , The fuel tanks that are all over the thing Are not just to make optimal use of the internal space to extend range , But they can be pulled in any time To add new systems , That was part of the design from the beginning , Especially the big fuel tank that sits behind the canopy , That is used for the Lift fan in the Marine variant , That could actually have a shaft connected to it like in the b , Driving a generator Two power directional energy weapons , That could be a solid state laser But more than likely it would be other spectrum energy , During world war two the united states had developed a new machine gun They never feel that it because they knew that the germans would just acquire it and copy it , The same thinking is going into the up thirty five , All kinds of classified research Ready to go when the time comes . I would argue that the fighter bomber role of the f thirty five only represents about twenty percent Of what this aircraft actually is .

Pilots had to take what the engineers supplied. Which begs the question of why a much heavier engine, running on much poorer petrol could reach altitudes unheard of with Spitfires? If you add that to the design flaw with the carburrettor and the availability of their own much heavier engines, you realise someone, somewhere is full of shit.

Thank you for a fabulous insight into this wonderful aircraft. I first discovered the Storch on a school trip to The Great Yorkshire Show, basically an agricultural show where farmers show their bulls, cows, pigs etc. I was obsessed with aircraft so i found a stall that had a stand of Airfix models, and I bought an Airfix 1/72 scale Storch, of course being one of the small, cheaper models that a young boy could afford. Now, well over 40 years later I plan to make another storch model and your great video will help me enormously.
