acrylic gesso isn't latex paint, and isn't related to latex paint in any way. Acrylic gesso is acrylic polymer. latex paint is made of propylene, vinyl acetate, propylene oxide, propylene glycol, acrylate, and aluminum....and it isn't suitable for anything art related

And my point is use a panel, spray it with other primer, and paint.

where do people get their references ?? I am not that good at drawing but if I have a picture I can match that but I understand that is a no no.
@StefanBaumann13 днів тому
If you master painting you can learn to create with no references. I would recommend a good coach and learn to paint. There is no, NO in painting. if you want to paint a photo like you do, it OK.but finding the freedom to create from nothing is amazing.

I live in one room- no closet but i use my dining room table with an Edgepro easel and eat my meals on my office desk- ceiling lights are too bright so I photograph my art outside in the open shade under the carport roof

/me sitting here thinking about how to market HDPE panels to art nerds as archivist quality. Basically Teflon, I'm willing to bet $10 that it's at least mostly oil paint stable. Good enough for fuel lines. Not UV stable, Aluminum still wins, probably.

I recently upgraded from the cardboard canvases to at least cotton stretched canvas because I have a couple of paintings that I think could sell for enough to buy more paint, but I hesitate to sell something painted on cardboard. Honestly considering jumping to aluminum, the paint will almost always degrade faster than primed aluminum sheet. Price-wise, looks like ~2-3x the cost of MDF depending on the thickness you go for relative to 1/8" aluminum which will be all but bulletproof.

It’s 2024, I think 8 years after this video was recorded. At 4:53 this afternoon, I emailed Peggy at Easy L about how soon she could ship a pochade box that I suddenly need. She emailed back immediately and said to order right away, so I did. At 5:54, I got an email that my box has shipped. So Stefan isn’t exaggerating about Peggy-and she’s still getting boxes out as fast as ever!! By the way, the initials of her company are AWE. And yes, I’m in awe. Thank you Peggy and thank you Stefan for telling us about her!

This is really remarkable explanation. You are truly a great educator: the quote I love was: “when somebody walks to a gallery you see a great painting like Sargent, and then you see a lot of crap and you end it up walk to the Sargent, because is in the museum it does not mean is any good”. 23:20

I used to keep a small sign up at art shows - all offers considered, some more than others! Most people either laughed or accepted it.
@firstlast2034Місяць тому
may I say that there should be some standards and there is so much junk out there for sale. I paint daily and some like it and others do not. there are reasons some do not sell and others are sought. be grounded and look at paintings from your heart based on what is out their. I have never used a gallery nor will I ever jump through hoops to be in one. Show me why you deserve half of what I produce?

Lights and shadows are so important. Learning to identify it is what I need work in!
@RoyilBlue-vp1utМісяць тому
I took up photography and I am an oil painter, and i have to say photography requires equally the training and practice to work with light, temperature and composition etc as painting does. The difference is the colour mixing, brush application and establishing a painterly interpretation of what the artists vision represents. I'm not one of those photographers who edit out natures intention, increase saturation or doctor the scene to appeal to digital viewing, my photography was intentionally created for hanging on a wall to be appreciated. My painting is the same yet the scene is altered to appeal compositionally and to represent my individual interpretation of the scene. I practice both and they are different yet need to same mastering of light and temperature to achieve a work of art. 90% of todays photographers do not treat photography as an art form, they treat it as an advertising medium to appease their own fame and fortunes.

What is the name of the light that you use to cast light for still life paintings
@annsalty5615Місяць тому
The other problem is canvas covered boards are problematic due to the glue leaching up thru the canvas when the glue is applied to adhere an already primed canvas. You end up painting on glue without realizing it.
@annsalty5615Місяць тому
Just a little heads up. Stay clear of gluing pre primed canvas onto anything as a painting support. The glue used to adhere can leach up to the painting surface! You end up painting on glue. And this will over time dislodge. Happened to me! I spent oodles of $ buying expensive pre oil primed linen canvas glued on panels. They all are now, after several years, ruined. If you insist on panels, use rabbit glue to glue on raw fabric (like linen) and apply grounds. Do not apply a fresh glue layer behind ANY canvas.
