This game is insanely good. When a game makes me go against my own interests to empathize and ease the suffering of a character, you know that it's a cut above the rest. The charisma ending of The Ritual is downright heartbreaking

I remember reading the Divine Comedy in school on a whim and thought the meeting with Beatrice and the ascent through heaven was rad. I still don't understand why people care about the Inferno so much; maybe it's like a Act 2 of Faust sorta thing

I feel like this is a really great allegory for fatherhood actually. You can be totally fearless by having contempt for your own mortality but no matter how fearless you are, that goes into the trash when it hits you that someone else's mortality is not only your responsibility but also the most beautiful and important thing in the world as far as you're concerned.

Funny of Red to say One Winged Angel had a Tom and Jerry part in it considering Sephiroth's big move final attack Supernova had rng debuff in it that gives you random detrimental status, one of which is frog. Just. Frog.

This was extremely fun to improvise when my DM punished us messing with a demigod by making them cast Weird on the party, and I took initiative in roleplaying what my character's greatest fear was (being seen as a traitor and the cause for his family/cult's death, having them point at him and berating him. It was very much my character's deepest trauma and greatest regret) My table all looked at me surprised and on their subsequent turns they too joined the juicy roleplay which turned into an awkward conversation later of "by the way haha what did you see?" "the weather's great actually (please don't mention this)"

One of the best ways I've seen this trope averted some is by having the protagonist go through a gauntlet of sorts. Each combat is evenly matched, or perhaps a couple on one, but the hero has to keep on moving through from fight to fight. The Raid was good for this.

My stepdad played that game in front of me as a kid. And I was awestruck, in many ways I still am. The way that game throws you into the adventure and you dive in headfirst just to find out what you really did.... Man. It's gorgeous desolation too. Great game. And Shadow of The Lavigne was pretty funny 😂 every second of the games soundtrack I can picture BEING THERE. It's just incredible. I always remember the gorgeous arenas. After my stepdad beat the first Colossus, he actually issued an audible "ught oh" after getting hit by the tendrils lol

I’m actually a big fan of writing post apocalypse stories. But this video made me realize that I only like writing the Ghibli apocalypses where the tone is hopeful and the message is that no matter what, we can always rebuild. Maybe that’s also why I like reformed villains so much

While I agree that the stories commented in the video are indeed the best stuff Lovecraft wrote, my favorite story by Lovecraft is From Beyond. While many people hate that short story, especially by how melodramatic it is, I personally consider it one of the most terrifying stuff Lovecraft wrote, the idea that the air and the sky itself harbors horrible creatures that we cannot even see because our senses aren't tuned enough to do so is absolutely terrifying, and most likely a Germophobic's everyday nightmare.

Ok, but hear me out, I understand the MC has to often go fight their evil side on the inside, while transformed and AFK on the outside. But what if instead of that internal fight, we have a "greatest fears" moment instead? character revelations would be neat. Or opposite end of this scenario, where their dream (ala man who has everything) is too perfect that they don't wanna wake up from this transformation state.

Caesar didn't ask for more money on his ransom because he was offended it was low. He knew he was going to come back to get the ransom and keep ot himself. He did it so he could openly take the money that his father or family wouldn't give him. 50 talents is a fortune and Caesar definitely used that as the foundation to build his power independent of his family

When people say that Blizzard Entertainment doesn't know how to write female characters, it's not because the female characters never have interesting or compelling narratives, it's because they've all literally got the same story beat: Grew up peaceful and happy, home was destroyed by horrors beyond their comprehension, fought valiantly to stop those horrors from causing other harm, failed, went into a depression, then revenge arc, then redemption arc, and they have yet to write beyond this for any of their major female characters. There are five such characters who meaningfully impact the narrative in Warcraft, alone, and it's also quite telling that all of them except one started out as Elves with Magical Powers and Great Authority (and one was just a Human Among Elves and had Magical Powers and Great Authority), and also, nearly all of them more-or-less falls into the Last of Their Kind Trope, in spite of three of them being sisters to each other. I'm really only intrigued by their latest Main Villain, because she A.) doesn't follow this narrative (yet), and B.) they managed to build her up to being capable of destruction on a level of 7:4 on the Apocalypse How scale in spite of not really making her build-up at-all important to the story of most players, who have been the Main Protagonists (all of them, all of the time, all at once), and while this is two sets of new behavior for them, I'm not yet convinced it will have a meaningful, long-term outcome for the story beyond forcing it to continue to trudge ever forward.
