QBs like Milroe and the much faster offenses are what made Saban change his defensive philosophy, and the fact that this is still mostly players from the previous regime, give me the 2023 team all day against 07.

What an awesome concept… There were times when that defense looked really really good… There were times where this past season‘s offense looked really bad… I’m trusting the process, so I’ll take the 2023 offense in a close one

McClain, Jackson, Gilberry, and Rashad Johnson would be the difference makers here. 2 NFL regular starter caliber DBs, Butkus Award winning LB, and a guy that was a solid 5-6 sacks on average for a few seasons in the league. Hard to argue against that.

Defense I liked our offense but wasn't as good as years past

The 2007 Defense! But I will say this. Milroe would definitely give these early defenses problems. We've seen it before with Johnny Manzeil, and even against Saban's recent defenses with Jayden Daniels, and that's not counting the number of other Heisman trophy winning QB's that won that trophy because they had their Heisman moments against Alabama, Saban, and his defenses. Milroe in 2023? Less of a chance, but the 2024 version of Milroe might had that chance. To be honest, I think it would be just like every one of those games that Bama lost, and won. Some of the greatest games of the past nearly 20 yrs have involved Alabama, I mean that's just facts. And if the 2023 Alabama offense played against the 2007 defense, I would have to say that the 2007 defense would make the stops, but they would have to earn those stops. Cause I think Milroe could make some of those heavy linebackers look really slow.

This might be comparing Apple and oranges. Relatively speaking, the 07 defense was much stronger than its 07 offense. But Nick Saban’s recruiting had not taken hold yet. Best to be said is that the defense was well coached in 2007. Fast-forward to 2022 / 2023. How many of the 2007 players would Saban have gone after in 2022 or 2023? The 2007 players were good, but the players at Bama the last 15 years have been out of this world talented. Raw NFL talent - very well coached mostly. A less than stellar performing 2023 offense would physically dominate the 2007 defense, especially at point of attack. An excellent junior high football team - loses to a high school team - every time. The 2007 offense would suffer more against coach’s 16 years of recruiting dominance.

Some of those guys went on to win a Natty, but in '07, that D was a lot weaker. If we're talking '09, there's no contest, D all day long! But the offense in '23 just failed to lose most of the year, and somehow squeaked past Georgia by the end of the season. I think it's a toss-up!

I’ll take that D vs this O. As i watched it in person and also watched this oline let the QB constantly under pressure. The Michigan D that shut us down in playoffs isn’t as good as the Saban D was at Alabama in my opinion.
