The FAA Is Being Sued For Throwing Out Air Traffic Controller Applications Based On Applicants' Race Lawsuit uncovered FAA discrimination in hiring, rejecting over 1,000 qualified air traffic controller applicants based on race. Obama-era FAA implemented biographical test favoring diversity over skills, ignored highly qualified candidates from CTI program. Minority candidates given unfair advantage through "buzz words" and irrelevant questions, while qualified CTI graduates were passed over. A class-action lawsuit by the Mountain States Legal Foundation has found a substantial amount of documents showing discriminatory hiring practices by the Obama-era Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initiative, which rejected qualified air traffic controllers based solely on race. The lawsuit is led by Adam Laxalt, the Former Nevada Attorney General and co-counsel at Mountain States Legal Foundation. If it succeeds, it could set a new precedent and force companies and government agencies to hire employees based on skills, eliminating diversity quotas. The FAA was under pressure to diversify the overwhelmingly white workforce and began screening applicants using a biographical test. Only after passing this test were they tested on competency. Who was wronged? The lawsuit alleges that the FAA turned away more than 1,000 qualified air traffic controller applicants. These applicants passed the normal tests before the Obama-era FAA threw out the test results and the applicants with it. In addition, minority candidates were given “buzz words,” which brought their resumes to the top of the pile. These groups were also given the answers to the biographical questionnaire, which was later banned. Juan, I am about to retire as a captain after 35 years of FAR part 121 flying. I’d be lying if I said I had not been on the receiving end of an inordinate amount of FAA Air Traffic Controller mistakes made by individuals favored and hired by the above Obama FAA policies. Axe me how I know. Elections HAVE consequences. As I enter my sunset years,I personally pray for your safety!

The impossible turn you want to do so badly. Your brain wants to get down to that runway so strongly! You have to train your brain over and over ahead of time or you will make that mistake that so many others have made.

This was a great video by Juan. I just retired 14 months ago after 36 years in EMS and the fire service in Los Angeles and though I don’t miss the job per se, you miss sitting at the kitchen table shooting the shit with the boys. Congratulations Captain/Colonel on your well earned retirement. You’re going to love it!

I did my multi in the 80s in Mia in the Aztec with the I0-540 and also the Seminole . The difference in hp doing single engine work is noticeable. The seminole would wallow and not very happy in contrast to the Aztec. The modern low hp twins are not forgiving in single engine operations .

Wouldn't have helped with the last incident, but thats why i prefere when only TWR clears people across active runways. It is the same with cleared to land calls while others are still on the runway or even still on approach infront. Just an extra failure point I really don't like having.

As a side note there is no longer a SWISS AIR our proud was managed to death many years ago, now it is SWISS, however SWISS is no longer a Swiss airline, because it is owned by LUFTHANSA and therefore despite its misleading name a fully German owned air line. It only operates still out of Zurich, but no longer maintaining Swiss quality and Swiss hospitality! We Swiss were cheated out of our beloved airline by our own incompetent government who let SWISS AIR go bankrupt and sold our pride to the Germans, causing major unemployment of Swiss airline workers and crews!

This crash really upset me. Especially for the guest and payed guest passengers on the B 17 and of course the crews of both aircraft. The airboss should find himself in a court of law, facing charges which could imclude negligent manslaughter! At very least he should be sacked and never allowed to do the job he so clearly was not capable of ever again. Also two extremely rare classic aircraft have been lost forever. I dont quite understand what your guest meant by saying that there was only two built as test aircraft whem refering to the Kingcobra? I guess he must have meant that particular model of P 63? Im not familiar with P 63 sub variants like the P 63M and RP 63G and L types. (forgive me if I have that totally wrong) To all those who perished in the crash, Rest In Peace, and fly in clear skies and serenity evermore.

Did he switch to the loc for the VOR, because looking at the chart it would have shown that he was far left and so he may have gone to the right to intercept the vor, since the first time he was off course, maybe he thought he was on the wrong nav freq? Edit, also he just had a missed aproach that has him switch to the vor for navigation, then got vectored in by approach, then possibly went for the vor rather than the ils if he didn't switch back, maybe it's a good idea to listen to that morse code??

The NTSB report page at 8mins said the last annual inspection was the day before the accident flight. Worth checking if work was done on the throttle linkage during preparation for the inspection. And why the inspection didn't find the loose linkage connection and maybe add that to future inspections.

I think we should rely less on pure word of mouth and radio comversations for crucial instructions since history has shown how confusing and unreliable it can be when there is miscommunication. I think a certain automated or signal system should be in place. Something as simple as a Red light or Green Light on the Runway to tell whether you are cleared to go or not. Seems like that is basically a no brainer, i feel lile relying purely on voice communication is a recipe for disaster in such high frequency operations.

Major airlines have lowered the minimum requirements for FO positions. Pilots with barely a 1500 hour ATP and 500-600 additional hours as SIC are getting hired now. That all equals to less experience. In my days you were lucky to get out of the regionals with 6000-7000 hours and PIC 121 time was almost mandatory. Not sure if that was a factor here. There seems to be a lot more incidents happening lately.🤔

Seems like these days we have more engine-out twin accidents in training than in regular flights. Maybe we need to move some of this training to simulators.

Looks like pizz poor maintenance, i.e. pencil whipped or poor quality workmanship. (Is that redundant?) My years as an CP/AP+ I saw big name major shops with highly experienced mechanics that did shxt work daily. I was told many times I'm too anal... OR ELSE.

the answer is obvious. there isn't enough funding for the FAA so they can't offer salaries high enough to attract people into the sector. thus there's a huge shortage of ATCs and the ones that are working are overworked as fk.

RIP . Condolences to family & friends of these aviators. Wonder if something like Shotspotter technology could be employed here? If there is an engine having trouble early in the takeoff roll, could this be used by the crew to make a decision to continue? Detonation or preignition could likely be caught early in the application of power. A magneto or wring harness breaking down could lead to such a condition. An audio stream of what's happening at the back end of the engines may , indeed, be valuable. We have the technology available. Why not use it ??

Might be a good idea to add a calculation of single-engine rate of climb to the preflight briefing. Based on weight, CG, and density altitude it would allow the instructor and student to decide if a single-engine go-around is possible under current conditions while still safely on the ground; if not, cancel the flight or go do some other maneuvers.
