Nice video! You chose quite the challenge, so kudos to you, sir! And let's all not forget that China is a criminal state that treats Uyghurs like shit 🤗 Yeah, it needs to be said

I wonder if some American language company apps or libraries have audio On Uygur and other languages. I like the subtitles. There are people speaking Mandarin and various Asian dialects. It is good to hear authentic language. TY
@phoenixhou4486День тому
Yes I have found some resources from American university libraries, but they are still very limited compared to the amount of things in big languages like Japanese or Korean🤔
Please stay tuned for more from my trip to Xinjiang!

As an international student, these words just shocked me. The border brings so many miseries -- language differences, cultural shocks, or even ideological or geopolitical clashes etc, which just made my faith in my country and my view towards this world unravel, and it's so hard to put together. As the video said, this collapse in cultural recognition is the most torturing thing, instead of learning the language itself. It just takes so much courage to directly look into the sun showing the truth and leaving me nowhere to hide. I thought I would have an open mind to directly see the world but I am not. The video just reminds me of this feeling of straying and homesickness, especially when the masochism metaphor comes out. But I appreciate your bravery and the great view of the significance beyond the language itself, there might be someday that people can understand each other all around the world, but this cannot happen without realising language learning is important. Sadly language learning cannot solve the problem alone, since most of the time we are trapping ourselves in information cocoons with political ideology and biases, so at least in the short run the world cannot be in peace. btw, I see someone says that this title might be click bait but I think that is not necessarily the case, it says how learning language destroys someone due to disordered recognition, but that also means destroying the old 'self' with bias and embracing the world, this destruction can be productive, but the process of rebuilding the confidence should be emphasised or the title is just a little scary. Love your video!

I don't want to learn for any superficial gain or to experience how "different" people from other cultures are. I truly love the pursuit, the self-discovery, and the constant realizations that all people are fundamentally the same. I love to be able to connect and discover similarities between cultures and individuals, to intentionally break the walls that were previously hindering me from doing so. I adore grammar, learning, and studying for personal gain, but it is ultimately about human connection and mutual understanding that gives me my passion to learn languages. Love this video and your perspective.

I don't understand the meaning behind the last clip (if there's any): Is the child not able to speak Uyghur?
@fefehaha39562 дні тому
No it’s my Uyghur that I’ve studied for 2 years is still indecipherable to native ears😅

I think you should learn Turkish first😄. (At least this way you don't have to guess vowels when reading and it is easier to memorize vocabularies).
@phoenixhou44862 дні тому
I have indeed studied some Turkish, but I’d rather start with Uyghur since I’m around a lot of Uyghurs and I wanna get to know them better
@skylar57902 дні тому
You're English is spot on! The only thing that tips you off as non-native I think is your "L"s and "R"s. I'm curious how you might say "Pearls" 🤔 Your "L" sounds more like the French "L", as if you're pronouncing it with the middle of your tongue instead of the very tip (idk if that's actually what you're doing though haha). As for your "R", it's actually pretty much perfect. It's only when there's a vowel first that I can tell you're non-native. Such as in "there", "very", "year", "originally", etc. You get it right a lot too (like your pronunciation of "history" and "more" is very natural) so idk if this is even valid advice. Funnily enough, the very very little accent that you have I might still guess that you are native, but had just spent some time in Europe or something at some point haha. Mostly because your intonation and cadence is so accurate. I've known many people with no accent but who stress sentences or syllables strangely so I can tell immediately. But with you I'd really second guess myself.
@phoenixhou44862 дні тому
Thank you for the interesting diagnosis! My accent is really all over the map and it’s highly dependent on the languages I’ve been exposed to as well as my cognitive condition🤓

Phoenix, Thank you for this delightful clip. You make me fall in love with the Uyghur people, their language, their gentleness, and their lovely unique art work. You inspire me to hopefully visit Xinjiang one day and experience this beautiful culture. Blessing to you! Greetings from a HK born and raised Chinese, who has lived in Canada for more than 50 years.

Damn, I love people like you. I love that a few people in this world like yourself will be able to explore, taste, enjoy a bit more of the richness this world has to offer. This video reminds me of my 17-years-old self moving alone to the US without knowing any English, and making my first American friends and bombarding them with dumb questions until I finally learned the language and culture of the US. And having my first Chinese roommates in college and annoyingly repeating everything they say until my Chinese pronunciation became very good after a few months while my Chinese vocabulary was non-existent.

It doesn't sound like he 'died' from learning languages, it just sound like an arrogant youth realizing that the world around him is much better and more beautiful than he thought it was. So... clickbait title.
