The video seems to be saying that CRW Nevinson changed his attitude towards war, but calling gunners machines seems just as anti-war as the later painting. I am not sure what the propaganda department was thinking by hiring this guy. It is like they say the painting but nobody thought to ask him about his opinions.

The only people who champion war are the ones who've never been. The most vocal supporters are the ones who know theyll never go

I don't understand why everyone is shocked. The very first cave art was of the hunt. We hunted the lands until we depleted the stocks. Then we had to fight our brother for what was left. Nothing is different now.

I always wondered why "Paths of Glory" name of the movie by Kubrick sounds so familiar.

The topic is interesting. But we need to dig deeper. Few examples. For example, the Russian artist Arkady Plastov and his work "The Fascist Flew By"

I think modern art has ran its course, we should make a return to 'academicism' or atleast meritocracy

I think you should consider covering William Utermohlen and his self portraits while suffering from Alzheimer’s. It’s an incredibly scary series of self portraits that eventually become scribbles as he literally forgets how to draw. Dementia and Alzheimer’s has to be one of the worst ways to die…

My dad is the hardest working, most beloved person in my life. This video made me call him and tell him that I love him. I tell him that every day when I text him good night, but this painting made me realize how devastating it would be if I lost him.

Brilliantly done, and the parallels between the perils of Ernst's time, and our own, were deftly drawn.

Um I’m fairly confident that painting on the left in the thumbnail isn’t from before the war since steel helmets weren’t used in war until about halfway through the war.

I’m not a sound engineer but whatever is up with your production - levels, equipment, I have no idea - the clarity of your speech is abysmal. Sound is blending together like your lips are barely parted when you speak. It’s all just a slurring of sound, there is a really low quality of diction and clarity of phrase. It sounds like mumbling meant to be of import, but whatever is going on, I can’t fucking hear what you’re actually saying

WW1 is the most confusing and pointless war in modern history. Some partisan murders an Arch Duke and within months an entire continent picks sides and goes to war. Even the leaders of governments at the time could not properly articulate what the fight was about.

I think there is something in this performance piece that is also relevant to the discussion of its themes that may not have been intended by the artist. You mentioned that the family whose home the painting was brought to thought the cameras were there for a documentary. So I assume they were not fully, if at all, involved in the planning of the performance. This too speaks to great lengths about the state of people with a migrant background and other marginalized groups, in Germany and elsewhere: if their situation is ever discussed, it is seldomly on eye level with them. They're talked about, not with. They're treated as the subject of discussion, not the experts on the matter that should lead the discourse.
