One thing I love about this game that wasn't touched on is that the theme of death and loss being inevitable, and the acceptance of them are an essential part of life are tied into the decisions given to the player. You choose accept that you will fight Nyx, the game makes the encounter with the true form of Nyx a player controlled one rather than a cut-scene so you expressly choose the great seal and accept it, and then at the end of the game it gives you a final test. I believe that there are two options there not to give a fake choice, but to give the player who knows what is happening the final choice to accept the death and the loss of the MC and their experience with the game. That final choice is the game saying "this is going to happen, you don't have to like it, but you have to accept it, as this is how it has to be." and then you close his eyes and accept it.

I just beat P3 Portable a few days ago- fantastic game! Part of me wishes I played it when it first came out, before being spoiled by the visuals of P5 and P3R. I unfortunately had the end of the game spoiled for me (through UKposts comments!), so I knew how it would end years before I even started the game- but a fantastic game nonetheless! Meguro Shoji called Kimi No Kioku his Magnum Opus. That song is so incredible and absolutely overflowing with emotion. I love it! On to P3R!

Where’s a persona convention to meet all these goofy, lovely lads and lasses? I wanna meet all of the Phantom Theives VAS so badly
@vacated3188
@vacated3188 Місяць тому
Not sure about a Persona convention specifically, but I know that I lot of these guys do meet & greets at just about every major convention in the US! I've been to a handful of different cons in the general east coast area, and so far I've gotten to meet Robbie Daymond at Momo-Con in Atlanta Georgia (Max and Ray were there as well, I just didn't have nearly enough time or money to see all of them on top of every other cool thing happening there haha), as well as Erika Harlacher and Zeno Robinson (voice of Junpei in P3R) at Kami-Con in Birmingham Alabama! I'd recommend just checking out which cons are happening near you, and take a look at the guest lists on their websites. Not only do so many of the coolest VAs go to these, but there are also tons of artists, bands, vendors and just generally really cool and creative people to go and see/support at these events. Thank you so much for watching, and I hope you get to meet 'em all someday!!
@Nabbitman

@@vacated3188 I have been looking around. I know there aren’t any persona specific conventions. But just imagine every VA from every Persona team collected in one spot to just geek about persona. I can at least meet LAVA later this summer along with Cherami and some other VAs I want to meet at Animate!. And if we’re being technical, I have met 4 Persona VAs. I met Aleks Le, Tara Platt, and Yuri all at Galaxycon, and met Bryce Pappenbrook at MTAC, all such nice and friendly people.

I can tell you put a lot of effort into this essay. However, this isn’t so much an analysis as it is a summary with descriptive language here and there. If your goal was truly to give an analysis it would’ve been in your best interest to observe how the literary devices in P3 create meaning and how they connect to the theme of death. Just a critique and opinion. Hope it helps in the future
@vacated3188
@vacated3188 Місяць тому
Thank for the thoughtful comment! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the video. If I might ask, could you elaborate a little bit more on your criticisms? I feel like "observing how the literary devices in P3 create meaning and connect to the theme of death" is pretty much exactly what I did here, especially in the video's second half. I'm no scholar though, so I could be wrong, and I'm always open and willing to hear out any criticisms that viewers may have. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
@DAC-oy3sv
@DAC-oy3sv Місяць тому
@@vacated3188 Of course! Thank you for being so open-minded and following-up! I seriously think you did a very great job connecting your ideas to the theme of death. Although in my opinion that is only half the battle. My main critique is that much of your content was summary based rather than analysis driven. For example, in your 'analysis' of Part IX, it was very obvious that you established a connection between memento mori and choosing not to kill Ryoji. Which was a beautiful insight. But where there was room for further analysis, you tended to simply recall the next few events of P3 in a glorified manner (aka summary with descriptive language). For instance, "upon taking Ryoji's life, the game fast forwards to March and all of the characters are back to their normal lives. No dark hour, no personas, just ordinary high school lives (1:44:02)." In and of itself, its neither good nor bad. Especially if you want to be inclusive of a wide audience. However, assuming that this video's audience is those who have already played P3, it just felt like a lot of 'fluff' with no real in-depth analysis. Piggybacking off of what you said in Part IX, I might have added something like, "Ryoji's enthusiastic diction coupled with his somber, understanding tone, highlights his commitment to leaving the protagonist with a happy life. Ultimately displaying that human beings often take being happy in life as the equivalent to being or feeling alive. In the end, the argument of Persona 3 tends to lean towards living a life where death can serve as a constant reminder; suggesting that with the greatest presence of death, human beings are the most alive."
@vacated3188
@vacated3188 Місяць тому
@@DAC-oy3sv Ahh, alright, I can understand this for sure! To your first point about it being too summary-based, I certainly get that and even agree to an extent. I don't particularly enjoy watching recap-based content myself, and really only took that particular approach since this was pretty much my first real piece of long-form video essay content, and I simply felt it to be the easiest way to keep a sense of continuity and tie everything together. I absolutely see the flaws with doing things in this way though and fully intend to move in a more free-flowing, "experimental", direction with future videos and their scripting. In regards to the example you gave using Part IX: I certainly could've taken each of the points of analysis a lot further, I will admit (Not just with Part IX, but the whole thing, honestly). I just suppose that when it comes to my way of approaching analysis-type content, I tend to want to respect the viewers' intelligence as much as possible and not run the risk of coming across like I'm bashing them over the head with things that may otherwise be obvious. Like, for instance, your version of what could've been said for Ryoji is beautifully written and to the point, but is ultimately nothing that I feel wasn't communicated in some way during the whole of Part IX, whether directly or subtextually. Like, a viewer wouldn't necessarily need me to explain that many people think the way that Ryoji does, with him representing said belief; Instead, I chose to focus more specifically on discussing the unique way in which Ryoji's overall presentation in the game paints a fascinating picture of how the games' writers almost respectfully disagree with this way of thinking, which to me feels like a much more valuable observation than simply explaining it all in great detail just for analysis' sake. But hey, that's just my way of thinking about it, and I don't find your criticisms wrong or invalid by any means. In fact, I think it's such an honor that others online have taken time out of their day to watch my video and drop their two cents on ways in which they feel I could be doing it even better. I really appreciate you taking the time, man, seriously. Thanks so much for watching, and have a great one!!

@@vacated3188 hey man, keep it up! It’s not common that someone tries to make a video essay just for the heck of it. When it comes to writing or putting ur opinion out there, as long as it comes from within you and your personal effort that’s all I or anyone should ever ask for. So great job and I’m glad this was an open dialogue for means of personal improvement. In no way was my comment an effort to derail you. Simply trying to make everyone seek/find their best selves. I think the Answer not really going with the idea that Aigis could tell Makoto was dying Is a really sad missed opportunity. I think the ending of Persona 3 Is infinitely sadder when you can tell Aigis kinda knew. She's a robot. She can obviously tell his vitals is lowering each day. And the tone of her voice imo easily implies she knows he's dying and just wanted to share one last moment with him and their friends together (Reload heavily changes the tone of this ending, and really implies Aigis actually can't tell, at least that lines up with Episode Aigis better)

Given how Persona is an alternate timeline to SMT1&2 and the events of Devil Summoner and If also happen there, does that mean Nyx is also present in a way in all other universes of Megaten? I mean, Devil Survivor 2 has showed the existence of aliens as antagonistic godlike beings and in the Digital Devil Saga games, God/Brahman is the core of the Sun itself. And the Collective Consciousness IS the source of the demons/Shadows/Personas in the whole franchise… so maybe Nyx is one the responsible of the most fucked up supernatural shit that happens to humanity while given it the potential to harness it to defend itself and thrive against its own incarnated fantasies and emotions. The Axiom may possibly have influenced, too.
