19 years but channelling some old geezer... Sampras ego-free maestro
@pauljohnson60192 дні тому
5.18- lol, what a sitter- probably what caused Sampras the match! If he had broken here, might have had a different result!
@violetkirk47292 дні тому
I can remember being so pleased when Fed won this match .
@pauljohnson60192 дні тому
What was Sampras's opinion on Fed 40-15, with due respect, put Sampras there, I believe even at 50, he would still have been able to serve the ace, to win championship point, against Djokovic.

This style of play is why we play pickleball 😃

Fantastisch om Federer te zien uit het verleden. Van de 'big three' kreunde hij nooit en dat maakt hem speciaal.

In comparison with Federer at Wimbledon 2019, this match looks like amateur tennis 🎾
@pauljohnson60192 дні тому
Even Sampras at 50, would have found the ace or unreturnable, to win Djokovic on championship point.

Holy Shit what an opening serve by both of them, Sampras especially !

A lot of unforced errors here from Sampras.

People go on about how sh*t the strings and racquets were in the 60s and 70s. But even here in 2001, I can tell from the sound of the ball on the strings how my Babolat aero pure with luxilon alu power is WAAAAY better than the setups Pete and Roger were playing with. The racquet and - even more so - string technology has advance so much in the last 23 years....

To ALL keyboard critics here that's bashing Sampras. How many Grand SLAMS have you won? Wait till you win any Grand Slams and in consecutive manner. Then you have earned the right to criticize someone who has won 14 grand slams in his career. If not. Then just shut your trap attacking one of the all time great tennis professional player .Mr. Pete Sampras.
@user-hd5ee2rc6g14 днів тому
I find that many young people who never got a chance to see Sampras play do not know how great of a player he was especially on grass and fast hard courts.

THIS match was so important ! The retirement of the previous champion, passing his crown to the new comer (and future king of tennis). The corner stone of Federer career…
@tellthestoryphotography-th721615 днів тому
I loved Pete's serve. No long, drawn out bizarre rituals. Shake shake done.
@nocode6116 днів тому
Wow, it seems like such a long time ago - Players used to serve and volley on grass. This was clearly before the league introduced new court conditions and balls which slowed down the pace of the game. Roger was a rising star, but 2001 was the year Sampras began a rapid decline before retiring a few years later. For those who are new, 30 was the typical retirement age for most pros at that time. The game was just different. In particular, the longevity of a serve and volleyer was much shorter than baseliners.
@margotconway860516 днів тому
Love them both playing 1 handed backhands. Those were the days. REAL tennis. Also love all the volleys, don't see many players coming in to attack anymore. All baseline and power but no more finesse anymore
