I had a professional give me a quote to install a 36K dual head (his brand whatever that is) He only wanted $14500+13% tax=$16385 sales tax. LMFAO. I bought direct from Senville and it was $300 cheaper than Amazon and free shipping. Total cost?...$4100CAN. I am installing it myself. Extra expenses to plan for are the 65' of 8/3 wire(in my case), 50amp breaker, Air break non fused panel, conduit for outside, Patio stones to sit compressor on. Flaring tool. Line covers. I'm still saving more than $10K by doing it myself.

I'm a sheetmetal guy, not a drywaller, but it was explained to me at one time that you wanted your dry wall seams staggered. I guess its supposed to provide more rigidity. As I said, I'm a sheetmetal guy, so I don't know. Thats just what I was told. Your job looks good to me. Seems as though it would simplify the mudding process.
@ILikeToBuildStuff13 днів тому
Hi Brad, thanks for jumping in on this. I have always done them in horizontal with staggered seams but on this one I talked to a number of installers that said doing it vertical was not a problem because it's not a shear strength thing but if the building moves from wind, earthquakes etc. doing it this way may crack at seams more. Thanks again for the comment and for watching I sure appreciate it. oh and I still suck at drywall! LOL

@ILikeToBuildStuff Love your whole series of videos chronicling your shop build. They were awesome. Thinking about doing something myself, but I'm nor entirely sure which route I want to go yet. Your shop turned out awesome though. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Thank you for the effort. Still, this was very poorly explained, illustrated, and photographed. You are entire description of the vacuuming and charging of the unit was not clear. Did you not run a pressure test? But most importantly, you showed very little about procedure for connecting the wiring to the power source. I believe that using these instructions as a guideline for installation by someone with no experience is asking for trouble.

@ILikeToBuildStuff24 дні тому
No, sorry I have had issues with viewers not following the direction given and they installed improperly which can cause fire or even death. I did run a dedicated 10/4 line from a 30amp circuit approximately 40 feet to the a/c disconnect within metal conduit
@falconthree381525 днів тому
Hi Jim, question can I mount a gfi outlet on the disconnect /120v sharing the same power source to the a/c ?
@ILikeToBuildStuff24 дні тому
No, the a/c unit is known for tripping GFI and as per code I am almost certain everywhere in USA it's a dedicated line with only the disconnect allowed.

Great video. In Australia we have had these systems since the late 80's. I have found that if you buy a cheap system, the bearings wear out in about 5 years. Better off spending decent money upfront. Then you will get 10 years or more out of the system.

About 7 years ago....wow, already 7 years ago..., I installed a 24,000 BTU ( 2x12,000 ), 240 volt, dual mini split with wall mount air handlers. The brand name is Thermocore. They worked great; nice & quiet, a lot cheaper than the traditional window air conditioners. I live here in north central Arkansas, where the Summers are usually in the 90's and Winters occasionally getting in the Teens. So, not extreme temps either way., and if extreme temps hit, it is not for very long. But about two years ago now, maybe a little longer, the bearings in the two air handlers started making noise; a high-pitched squealing type sound. Then the fan speeds started to not work properly and the Turbo fan speed setting would quite often not work at all. Bad motor bearings and bad control boards most likely....not worth getting repaired. Today, the handlers are barely working, loud and guess what, of course they are out of warranty. Now, I think that the outside unit is working fine. It is a Mitsubishi brand and they have a good reputation; it is the inside handlers that have gone bad. I am a big fan of mini splits since my old house never had the traditional cooling & heating duct type unit put in. So...I will just buy new air handlers and hope I get a longer life with new handlers. Thank you, China, for using poor quality bearings and circuit boards. My bank account really appreciates it...!!!

@ILikeToBuildStuffМісяць тому
If you can flare the ends yourself go and get tubing from your closest metal supply but if you are wanting to purchase ready to go lines then any of them will do fine, it's just copper tubing. The thicker wall the easier to bend corners without crimping the line.

@ILikeToBuildStuff2 місяці тому
Hi Ann, I glossed over the main electrical because I did another video and got sued because the viewer was shocked, not killed or anything but an unpleasant shock because they didn't watch the entire video and made a mistake. so that's why I didn't go into depth on it. If you are uncomfortable with running the electric maybe you know someone who can help with that area of the install. Thank you for watching and I hope you understand

By the general guidelines they say yes it would. Best thing to do is contact the manufacturer and they will tell ya what would work best for your particular situation. But again by the charts yes!

Sure by using carriage bolts instead, this one however is in the fenced back yard. If somebody really wants in they are going to get in. It's kind of like someone installing a huge thick front door with all the deadbolts and locks and have a window right next to it.
