I remember in elementary school one of my close friends was from Japan and he always came back with the coolest gadgets after summer break - he had the thinnest Sony walkman that only took a single AA battery and was barely larger than a cassette itself. Later he had a super small/thin Toshiba Libretto laptop and later a variety of amazingly small Sony Vaio PDA's and laptops.

It is till this day my favourite phone. Very unique and very practical.

In the IBM XT a 10 Megabyte drive became available. It was about 6 inches wide, 4 inches high, and 8 inches long. Today you can get a 1 Terabyte drive that is a bit larger than a credit card. The 1 terabyte drive will store as much data as 100,000 of those 10 Megabyte drives!! I recall seeing a hard drive at a reclamation site that had 10 platters (disks) that were about 3 feet in diameter! It also had 8 separate heads and head actuators on each side of each platter.

If you are interested in using it like a remote for a bigger more powerful computer you could try something like spacedesk. I still use a 2nd generation ipad running spacedesk to basically have the power of my best pc in the palm of my hand. Spacedesk doesn't run on linux but most likely there is an alternative that does the same function.

I just scrubbed through the video, but if this is linux, there is a high probability the display server might be xrandr. xrandr is a command with which you can do what you like to the display. try running "xrandr" or "xrandr --verbose" to see general display and xrandr info type "man xrandr" or "xrandr --help" to get a taste of flags you can use with the command. popular command to rotate display with xrandr goes like this: "xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate left" but different devices have different output display names, yours might be different than LVDS. might be DSI-1 or eDP-1 or VGA-1 or HDMI-1 or whatever, xrandr --verbose should tell you what is the name of the display in use. you can of course also type: xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate right xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate normal xrandr --output LVDS1 --rotate inverted

My dad owned a sony erricson F305 it had 2 extra X and O buttons from PlayStation i fondly remember player tropical madness, jhonny crash, Diamond rush , bejeweled among other games! one of its feature was motion control like a wii remote and to accompany this the phone phone came with a fishing game, can't remember the title though!

Et a copy of " Spin right" it's a tiny problem used by pros that can fix an old school hard drive built by Steve Gibbons ( not sure if his last name) it's built by him in machine code. Google it , it's saved dozens of my old school hard drives. It's a professional program & he's a famous programmer so it will do multiple functions to repare areas as well as other functions you can't find anywhere else, it worth [he very inexpensive program . Look into it, it's a magnificent tiny program thanks to it's coding in machine code. He's world rebound for this tool. &good luck!

Looking at your video and... I might try to upgrade the disk in my old HTC Advantage just for the fun of it and to shed some weight from "the brick" (almost 500g if you include the covers, yeah it was a hefty minicomputer/phone). Although the problem with it is mostly the battery degradation it might be good to repurpose it as a leisure book reader. Them transflective displays HTC used to make are a pleasure for reading outside as the brightness stays constant even in direct sunlight. BTW anyone here has experience with Linux OSes for this kind of devices (mostly what worries me is the phone / modem subsystem)? Any good distro? It would be cool to ditch WinMobile 6.0 for something more up to date and open.

Really enjoyable repair, highlighting how difficult recovering these legacy systems can be (let alone in a different language). I craved for a Zaurus machine at the time, but ended up purchasing a Nokia Internet tablet instead (N810), which was not only more easily available in Europe, but also had support for X applications and thus was much easier to get software running for. It also had build tools which run on device, which IIRC could be done on a Zaurus but was significantly more challenging.
