First let me say that custom loops have never been sensible financially from a performance point of view but those of us that do it do it because we can and we love it. It's like ppl who like to supe up their cars they spend thousands pimping it up, the car still worked as a car before they pimped it up and the better performance/aesthetic they get doesn't warrant the expense but ppl love to do it anyway. Second if your air cooled system any air cooled system from the past or present is quieter than the custom loop systems pump that you also built you did something seriously wrong you either mounted the pump wrong, ran it at 100% unnecessarily or just had crap fans. Thirdly EK made great gpu blocks the best hands down sp for that reason I'm sorry what's happened but I agree what they've done to employees is unforgivable. Anyway nice content 😊

Considering how PC parts seem to be getting hotter and bigger (usually from having a bigger cooler strapped to a GPU going from 3s to 4s) in order to eke out more performance, there's still going to be a niche for watercooling, even if it's only to watercool the GPU while leaving the CPU on aircooling (unless it's Intel, then an AIO works). But otherwise, gone are the days where liquid cooling was the only answer for hot parts, now that plenty of good air coolers can get close to an AIO (and extension, custom liquid cooling) in performance, only losing out in extended high load endurance (still takes longer to heat soak liquid than finstacks).

My main rig is on a custom water loop made with EK stuff. Built during the pandemic because I had time and unspent money. I can tell EK pricing only went up since then, and it had already gone up from before. Especially GPU and CPU waterblock as well as pumps, to me it's now +50% to +100% of previous pricings. That explains the loss of interest for most passionate people. WC is already kind of hard to plan and build properly, and expensive. Make it twice as expensive, and it becomes half attractive. EK likely made poor decisions about the manufacturing and designs, with too many variation, which eventually lead to problems we can see now. If EK dies, that is no the end of custom watercooling, Alphacool and other ones will happily take their place, hopefully in a more affoardable way and with a more successful approach.

Liquid cooling is nice. It can be a good option, but it's subject to the law of diminishing returns for sure.

If I bought a pc with a 8700g today with a plan to wait for the rdna 5, is that crazy or does it. Make sense? Amd 5 board so. I can upgrade cpu later as well and use the 8700g for home theatre use later.

I'm anxiously awaiting AMD's next desktop offering. I bought the 5950x for music production and I fell in love with it when fired up a previously ground-to-a-halt project and it was buttery smooth. I'm skipping the 7950 and will buy whatever the next thing is! I've had Intel chips since the 90s and my first foray into the AMD world was pure joy. I heard Apple Silicon is good for music production too, but as a mastering engineer and producer for two decades, my projects have become increasingly ridiculous.. especially in RAM usage. Some of the music sample instruments use gigabytes of RAM just to load up... and the cost of Apple memory is pure insult.. I'm needing 64GB and above just to open some music projects.

What pain are you talking about?. I have never had a problem with custom loops. The only problem that may come up is if you use hard tubing. If you use soft tubing, you will never have a leak and btw the good thing of a custom loop is that you can use a d5 pump which volume can be reduced immensely to the point that they are more silent than my noctuas nf-a 120s running at 500rpm. It really blows my mind the misinformation that goes around custom water cooling. Damn you could run the loop for years without changing the coolant and it will run like a Swiss clock. If you can’t see the benefits of custom water cooling you just haven’t tried it. What a bunch of nonsense. I’m running a i9 with a 4090 through 3 radiators on a goddamn Lian li air mini. The system is more silent than a ps5 on idle while running at full tilt. Pc gaming is a novelty niche in itself. Do not complain if there are companies offering next level products

I always find it a shame when unqualified statements like the one made by this tech UKpostsr are made. It's currently the best time to install a custom water cooling system. An I9 14900KS with an RTX 4090 consumes 800-1000 watts depending on the overclocking. The air coolers are getting bigger and bigger and take up a lot of space, so it's high time to buy a high-quality custom water cooling system. With an adjustable pump, the system is quiet, consumes less power and achieves better clock rates. The main thing is that the moustache looks good.

Rubbish about noise and GPUs. If your pump is louder you're running it a full speed, which you should NEVER DO either with DDC or D5 pumps. First thing you should do is cut them back to 30-50% speed where they're pretty much silent and there's zero impact on cooling. And in games, pretty much any GPU is going to be louder than a properly tuned WC loop. I've got a 4070 Ti Super triple fan on my desk right now and spins up noticeably in games.

I Don't think all custom water cooling is done. Corsair has water cooling as only part of it's line. They are doing fine.

EKs business model is unsustainable. Nobody really seems cares about custom watercooling any more, there are hardly any customers for their INSANELY overpriced products in this market. The watercooling kits are costing more than the CPUs they are cooling and are hardly better than a good Noctua air cooler but with countless things to go wrong!

Why do people think the pump in a custom water loop is loud. I’ve been water cooling for over 20 years and never had a pump that was noisy. I use a D5 pump these days it’s so quiet that the only way I know it’s on is 1 feel the pump or 2 look at my flow meter. Yes it’s more money but my 4090 when running at full load was not the quietest of things on air. And if you think your temps are going to beat a water block then you got your head in the clouds. Run 3D mark and try to get one of the achievements that’s 55C and below on the GPU. So please stop telling people that the damn pump is noisy.
