One question: what's the expected service life of the laser itself? When these type of devices came onto the scene a few ago (with continuous laser, I assume) the laser would gave, say, a 5000 hour service life before needing replacement. Pulsed and lower power likely will have remedied this.

Hey dude, good presentation, could you please send me the contact information for your supplier. Well done.

Minor nit-picking @2:24 The laser energy _ablates,_ not _abelates,_ all the crud, paint and rust. "Abelation" has an "e" too much. Sorry for my OCD acting up.😅

A prime example of why you should go to people that refinish wheels for a living and not just cut corners doing it yourself. His refinish job still looks bad.

Anyone know any tricks for getting the flange back on the spline? I cleaned everything carefully and put some anti-sieze on the spline to try to lubricate it, but after fighting it for a couple of hours, I can't get it on there.

10/10 on this video, my good man. I'm going on a parts hunt tomorrow to try to cobble together a complete AC system, and your video did everything for me. Fingers crossed I have AC before the real summer hits!

I wish I had your patience people can be so irritating at times. How much did this cost why did you pour floor after the posts will rot. Geez people leave this guy alone read before asking the same stupid questions. Why does he have to answer the same questions over and over. Like the old saying goes can't fix stupid.💯 Nice video thanks for sharing it Ryan 👍

Nice job straightening the aluminum rim. I have to do the same. I only have different size floor jacks and small trolley jacks. Im wondering if the small trolley jack will work? Also what do you think the best way to make opd aluminum rims look good again? Thank you 👍👍

Good video! Lots of good info you know a lot about painting! I used turbo paint to repaint my TA turn out really good but one year later it was just as faded as it was before. I’m guessing I needed to put clear coat over it for it to stay shiny?
@6thGearGarageДень тому
Yeah that rustoleum isn’t uv resistant. You would need a 2k clear over top of it for it to last long term.

That Frame is TRASH..... Are you going to weld repair it or replace it ??
@6thGearGarageДень тому
Yeah it’s better than some around here in OH, but I didn’t waste any time on it. I had a southern parts truck shipped up and it has a nice frame that I painted in a previous video. I’m tired of fixing rusty frames.
@31acruzДень тому
Can I ask why you waited 7 days for the "back" to dry? did you conversely wait another 7 days for the front to dry before you mounted tires on it? Thanks.
@6thGearGarageДень тому
Good question! The instructions said that coats need to be applied within one hour or else wait 7 days for the paint to cure before adding more coats. I’ve found that a lot of enamels have a similar recoat window.
@randallsemrau6911День тому
I dont see how that replacement floor could even be the correct part.

No training is really needed, it is very simple to learn to use after reading the instruction manual. Understanding the parameters and modes helps as well.

I’ve only used it for my own projects so far. If I get some spare time I might try to do some side jobs with it.

You're doing great work on that truck! No shortcuts. No laser welder to clean up that cab wall? I guess it's good to stay humble.😛 Are you keeping the stock alternator on this truck? Alternators in old mini trucks are pretty weak - my '76 Ford Courier only has 35 amps stock and I would love to upgrade it so I can run an electric cooling fan, maybe even a stereo (no joke, my truck didn't even come with a radio. Wouldn't surprise me if your 1980 Toyota was about the same. Just an idea - but I'd like to see you do a video about swapping to a higher-power version. Maybe a GM 3-wire? I know the GM 1-wire is the overwhelming popular choice, but I think that's because it's simple, not because it's best. I'd prefer to use one with exciter and voltage-sensing wires connected.
@6thGearGarageДень тому
Actually, this footage was right before the laser cleaner. I forgot about it for a little while. This truck still has the original alternator, which I’ll probably keep for the time being. There’s not many electronics on the truck, but it does have a radio with one speaker on the dash 😁

You must wait 30 days before applying any sort of wax, because the clearcoat continues to outgas for up to a month. Wax would trap the solvents creating a risk of coating failure.
@zafar786003 дні тому
what about using ultrasound?
@6thGearGarage3 дні тому
I did do some testing with an ultrasonic cleaner to see what it could remove, and it didn't do very well at rust or corrosion: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/r3miibB8aqp2tZ8.html

I had to weld up a lot of the drivers side frame on my 2011 gmc sierra and once i cut out all the rust i blew out the frame really well i ended up making my own long extension hose attachment but anyway after i got it all done i used pb blaster surface shield inside and outside the frame i basically hosed it. and i would recoat the inside frame every 2 years. I also live in Ohio and man that road salt brine crap really eats the metal up. Now i'm gonna try this new homemade coating recipe i come up with here it is: 2.5 pounds of grease, 1qt boiled linseed oil, 40oz motor oil (used or new), 8oz paraffin wax, 8-12oz diesel fuel to thin it. and that should make 1 gallon melt it all together and spray it HOT once it cools down should be a nice thick sticky grease like under coating that will last a pretty long time. shouldn't cost very much either to gather all those up just buy the cheapest stuff you can get. I already have a ton of used motor oil and paraffin wax so that already cut my cost down and since i use to do a different undercoating that i HOT sprayed on in previous years I don't have to buy a hot plate. You could try this undercoating out and let me know how it went. I use a fluid film undercoating sprayer with metal cans.
@6thGearGarage3 дні тому
That is awesome, I never thought about trying a home made brew. It sounds like yours will work great, thickening up when it dries. I've used fluid film for years, but I do wish it was a little more resistant to water.
@patrickmiller14134 дні тому
Good video. The only thing I noticed that was not covered or you didn't do was to spray a rust inhibitor or converter inside the frame channel before you welded the reinforcement plates. You took enough time and attention to remove the flaked off rust and junk inside, that it seems like an additional and critical step or precaution could have been taken. There's a product that can be applied directly onto rust and is actually used on the hulls and upper parts of ships, and it can be primered and painted over ; called NAVAL JELLY.
@6thGearGarage3 дні тому
Thanks! I did coat the inside with fluid film later in the video. I didn't want to use any kind of coating in fear that it would flake off over time and clog the drain holes.

Good video. I just wonder how this works if you do beach driving? I would think all that beach sand would stick to all that oil and make a real mess. Then how to clean it all off? I imagine high pressure water would take the Fluid Film off?
@6thGearGarage4 дні тому
Great point... sand would absolutely stick to it. At that point, I think a pressure washer would be the best way to clean it off.
