I love the Paul Hibbert outro. Also, about Homebridge and HomeKit, don't underestimate that power couple! That thing runs our entire smart home as far as automations go.

Why I love Home Assistant! 1. Home Assistant is updated monthly, and has plenty of numerous hotfixes throughout, unlike other platforms. It is, also, in active development, and adds new features, devices, and manufacturers frequently. 2. Home Assistant OS can be loaded on most modern devices like laptops, thin clients, mini PCs, and most of the Raspberry Pi versions. 3. It's completely FREE if you have the know-how and the equipment, or subscribe to Nabu Casa to make connections to Home Assistant effortlessly.

How do super rich companies not allow smart people like Dan on their team to do this stuff?!?! He has all these different brands and they work with his system.... same thing with modders of videogames who make games better after release than the people getting paid... development in tech is so weird to me

Loved it ❤❤ I am little slow on implementation at my place but managed to start living with 40 smart devices via home assistant till now. Door Bell notification on All family members phone and speakers is one of the best things I've done. Showing it off to few people lead to 2 requests for automating their homes too but due to a full time Job, have requested them to wait a couple of months, as I am already working on custom Tasmota based relay boards which will go inside the switch panels of a typical India based switch panels. Thanks for sharing your Automation Ideas, A few of These can be very productive 🙏🙏

Me and my mom are coming up with wacky ideas for zwave scene controllers outside the scope of scenes, one being to know that the mail hasnt been checked yet, pressing it dismisses that reminder, another reminds us if any doors are left open, pressing it tells us which ones (replaces the nest guard reminder)

Got a question about the wizz led light strips and not sure who to ask, but my strips are making the obnoxious high pitch buzz humm sound that usually occurs with like dimmer led bulbs with like a non dimmable socket or vs versa, or when its not on a power sourse for the right amount of power. Wtv ya know, i have mine directly in a wall outlet and i have no other electronics near the lights, all connections are good nothing off and then i decided ide try putting one of my little clamp things that i use on my stereo speaker wire did that and it sort of helped wondering if maybe i used a few of them if itd make the buzz sound go away completely. Feeling like i have hyper sensitive ears which i do, but no one else hears the buzzing sound like i do, sucks.

I want to be able to monitor the temperature in my garage but not control the house HVAC (I do have a Google Nest thermostat for the house). My use case is to be able to ask my Google Home "What is the temperature in the garage?" Can this device do that?

I appreciate the suggestion and thought about doing it like that, but the issue is I use several different brands of each product. Light switches, strips, and bulbs alone would take way longer and it would be difficult to explain in this quick format. My Amazon store links to most of what I use and if you have any specific questions let me know.

There is a huge problem with GOVEE... they do NOT SELL separate controllers.. I bought the 65' version.. and it comes with 2, 33' rolls.. well if you want to put them in different rooms.. you are out of luck or even if you want to put them end to end.. NOPE not going to happen you have to be within the distance of the dual cables coming out of the controller box.. so NOT GOOD for that.. just Saiyan make sure you get as close to the size run that you need.. or you will be wasting money .. I love the DIY with individual adjustable leds.. and then just get a separate controller.. they have some that are super easy to use and are universal ..

Be careful. These things have been around for a while. I got some a couple years ago and i loved them, until I realised they were shortening the battery life of my devices. In the end i had to keep them constantly on charge until i replaced the device or the battery. Not the same manufacturer, but the principle is the same. So just be careful and keep an eye on how often you need to charge the device.

So our old Roomba just got destroyed after our dog had a... happy little accident... I'm talking full on poop smearing all up in the rollers and dust bin compartment. It sounds like the S8 does well against object collision, but how does it do for fecal avoidance?

My 10/10 is my Aqualisa shower. I can say "Alexa, it's shower time!" and the shower starts, the bathroom mood lighting comes on (bright!) the heated mirror comes on and the music on my Echo show starts playing at volume 6. After a minute, the Bathroom Echo announces that the shower is ready. The shower is plugged in to an energy monitoring socket so however it's turned on (e.g.: manually.. what?!!) the extractor fan kicks in. It also means that when the shower is over ("Alexa, turn off shower", or hand controls..) the music volume is automatically reduced so it's not too loud now that the bathroom is a bit quieter. 10/10! I have other 10's, like my thermal cameras to tell me there's a cat at the front door, or when I've left my oven on, or when my beans are ready and Alexa tells me I need to put on the toast, but the shower is the greatest!!

My most useful is a tilt sensor letting me know the garage door is open and a door sensor on my outside gate letting me know I left it open. I prefer voice/phone commands for most of my devices as I rarely want X happening when I do X. I do need to automate my kids bathroom fan though. It stays on for hours and its a panasonic, so its too quiet to hear unless you are right near it. Just not happy I'll need 2 devices to do it. Also need one of those bond controllers.

I liked your video. I prefer reviews by a person I can see, who has actually installed and used gear. The info you gave was concise and your video example help a lot. One thing that is barely mentioned in all the reviews I've seen is the app. I've been using Wyze for a few years. The cameras are fine for the money, but their app is too unreliable. It often fails to send notifications and in some cases, doesn't record an event. All the cameras are pretty good these days. The app seems to be what makes or breaks the system. Perhaps you could do a review just of the apps. Thanks for your video.
