really intresting design but I don't understand why don't you use a foldable door instead of the courtain and a vent on the ceiling so you can do your buisness there instead in the middle of the living room

I have some flexible plastic weather stripping on my door to block freezing cold air. Part of it is sticky and the rest sticks out as far as you need it to cover a gap and you can make it a tiny bit larger than the gap.

You have fuel, you have snacks, and you have delusional positivity. Yes, you are on your way, and it shows that you are enjoying the fruits of your hard work on this Unimog. It feels fantastic, enjoy it...also being the proud owners of this unique vehicle. The people around you are curious and want to know more about this mythical creature, your Mog, which also gives you the feeling of having done everything right. You did. Now it's time to gain some experience with the vehicle and see if there are any things that need to be improved. It looks all good, but practice will tell. And all this you can discover on a beautiful journey. I wish you all the best and a wonderful journey with lots of positive experiences. Best, Adi

Always a shock to find out how much you weigh after a build! It's the add on sports gear that'll slow you down. A couple of bicycles earn their keep though; save on fuel costs and damage when exploring new locations. Great to be out on the road though. Enjoyed the reflected view when driving through town and the drone shots. Terrific work. Thanks

I love that the pleasure of the experience is prioritised over the time taken. 👍 Also that you diligently monitor parts of the Unimog to avoid breakages. I'll be logged into your channel to see how you & your adorable dogs manage. ❤ The only tip I can offer on your journey is to stop at small local grocers, butchers, and bakeries when topping up with supplies. Good nourishing food keeps you sated longer, so cuts down on the cravings. My wife and I are in our 70s and feel extremely lucky that we don't work to a timetable. I only go out for medical appointments and beers, while my wife balances her time between thrift shopping for clothes & decor items (cushions and knickknacks). I'm happy in the garden or doing home repairs & renovations. I never feel like I'm working because I absolutely love doing what I do. Loves from Australia. 👍🇦🇺❤👍

Very jealous! I have been building my mog for 3 years now and I still have 6 months to 1 year until I hit the road, it must feel surreal! good luck on your new journey! Also 40C (100F) is fine for the portals I would be concerned if they get above 80C.

This is quite inspiring actually!!!! Why don't you install a ventilation fan at the ceiling and also a hose to direct the heat from the heater to the bathroom to make it a dry room? In a way even when ure not drying any wet suits or clothes inside... you can fast dry the space to prevent mold from growing!!!

Here's how I used to calculate fuel useage on old motorcycles before fuel gauges. Full the tank completely full, no more room. Take note of the odometer as well as fuel amount pumped in. Drive a few hundred klm, refuel to totally full. Divide the fuel amount into kilometres travelled. You'll have to convert to all metric or imperial units of course, you can't mix the units of measurement. I'm guessing you know how to do this anyway 🇦🇺

Once you get past the Mississippi River, all national forest wilderness campsites are free. The beauty of your lifestyle, is you have no where you have to be, and all day to get there... We once made a trip to Alaska by way of the Alaska Marine Highway and planned for it to take 5 or 6 weeks. 14 weeks later we got home. We stopped at most anything worth seeing and even went to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge before going up the coastal highway 1 and 101 to Bellingham, WA to catch the ferry to Alaska. If you see a Buc-ee's be sure and stop to check it out. They have the best fudge and brisket you'll find on a highway. They don't have diesel, but are always next to or near a truck stop. After a few years of traveling, I learned that a 6 to 8 hour driving day makes an enjoyable trip, any more makes it a chore, depends on what your priorities or goal is. I always liked to stop when still light out to get the burgers on the grill and beer in hand before dark.

I had a ruff design to use on a box truck build, but I had a ruff idea of a area of 3’x3’ or 3’x 4’, I wanted to design it where it would have necessary air flow to help dry things out!

With Unimog, of course, you will get to Arizona with the heavy-duty "thing." I hope you enjoy the Unimog in Arizona and now live more comfortably inside than on your old bus. I am eager to hear more about what you like and what you don't like about the Unimog! It will be interesting. I have no doubt that Unimog will take you everywhere on a rough terrain path. Here's a tip for you getting your speedometer and odometer converted to MPH & miles. Check out Speedhut gauges. They can pretty much custom duplicate the look of the Unimogs' current OEMs speedo faceplate on their gauge faces, only in a new GPS measured gauge replacment unit. When I converted my Project RV from gas to diesel and put an Allison 5 speed automatic instead of the Ford C6 3 speed tranny it came with, I contacted Speedhut and had them make me some new gauges that duplicated the Isspro gauge faceplates. And other than the tiny Speedhut logo where the Isspro logo was, all the colors and registers are an exact match. The best part was when I regeared the rear diff from 4:88 to 3:56, the GPS speedometer didn't have to be recalibrated. This meant I could now use the tailshaft speed sensor to send the speed signal to my cruise control since I didn't need it for the speedometer. Originally the cruise control was ECM controlled by a crankshaft sensor. I had them make me matching speedometer, tach, Pyro, boost and fuel pressure gauges, and my dash looks like it is still OEM. The GPS sensor can be mounted in the upper corner of the windshield or on the dash. It is small like a cellphone speaker. Since my Coach has a fiberglass front cap, I just mounted mine inside, under the front cap, and it works fine. Obviously, the tach was replaced to read the slower diesel rpms, and I bought a speedo with a 100 mph top speed rather than the Coaches' original OEMs of 80 mph. Since I almost tripled my hp of the old Ford efi 460, I felt it could cruise at 85 mph if I wanted to. Old Barney is a Hot Rod Coach now. Just a satisfied customer! Safe journey to you. I gotta ask, how tall is that rig? Bridges and such??
@vonheise
@vonheise 21 годину тому
At 78, I can only do this with speed and temperature, but younger people like my 35 year old son can see metric and think in Imperial or vice versa. It takes some time and conversions with your phone, but soon it becomes automatic.
@mnswamp
@mnswamp 20 годин тому
@@vonheise Even at 68, I don't have to think about it anymore. I do a lot of woodworking and CNC projects, and it becomes more or less automagic, except that metric is *so* much simpler for volume!

Another great video :) I stumbled on your channel when you bought the Mog because I also drive a U1300 from 1990... So i really like the build part of the Mog series which is awesome, and then you always have those fashionable clothes on while doing it :) There is also a good vibe to the channel and a lot of nice tunes in the background, so I just had to sub... Looking forward to your adventures and upcoming content !!! P.S Regarding the speed and economy side of things I upgraded the tires to 395/85R20 and it is the best upgrade I have done so far but it was a bit expensive, I'm a bit jealous of you're military surplus dealers in the US :) I have a short video on my channel on RPM's with the bigger tires if you are interested... //Cheers from Sweden
