Wow. Thank you so much! This is the second time you've saved my prints. I encountered the mysterious blobs issue a while back and after seeing your video, reformatted the SD card I use and got smooth prints again (I now assume memory fragmentation made it slow, as it had been used for astrophotography with many write/erase/rewrite cycles). Now, I had a slight layer shift issue, so slight that I couldn't tell if it was Z binding or actual layer shift. I adjusted the bolts on my rods like you did out of despair after trying everything, and it now prints good as new! Thank you so much for making these videos. They are treasures of information, so well explained and documented, so useful!

Hmm, what if it's not truth? and you could start exploring Arduino without prior experience at all.
@GeekDetour3 дні тому
I think there is only one way to know - luckily, the kits are not expensive, specially the Elegoo one. If you can do basic electrical repairs, understand polarity, if you are comfortable with using tools, some woodworking… this is the type of mindset that usually can have some fun with Arduinos. The programming side of it: you start making the simple projects that come in the manual and start tweaking them: changing values, changing what is written to the display… and you begin to learn things. If not, at least you will know it’s not your thing. To me, I was always attracted to electronics - I never had formal engineering education… but I REALLY wanted to know how to make things. And I loved the look of the components.

For anyone still lost or just curious Z binding can happen numerous ways. Your rods can be bent The rod(s) may not truly be perpendicular to the gantry (you may have a loose rod or improperly installed) Your gantry may be a little tight There may be physical obstruction within the threads that can cause minor friction thats hard to notice - this can be debris or some gnarled threads. Loosening the screws to a minor degree can potentially solve some minor tolerance issues but they should not be so loose that they float

@FATSNAIL-FPV4 дні тому
I have the S2. It's great. STL? STL? STL? STL? STL? The exit holes are indeed.... Not that practical.... Bet you never shared the STL in the 7 months this video was posted? but you say you will in the vid. or do you just not read comment's after posting and just farm comments/views? Maybe a harsh comment from my side, but it's a common thing for content creators lately, and therefore i wouldn't be surprised...
@GeekDetour4 дні тому
You are right. Time and time again I was remembered that I did not upload my STL model. It is not exactly harsh… but it is a bit entitled. Did you lose money? Do we have a contract? You don’t know anything about the struggles I go through to make ends meet - and, sure, other things got higher priority. I am not happy that I didn’t share it yet - I will, it will be free of course.
@FATSNAIL-FPV4 дні тому
@@GeekDetour read the last sentence in my comment... I've seen to much content creators use tricks to get people commenting/clicking for the algorithm. It's sad I was actually thinking you would provide the link to an STL you are using in the vid and said you'd share it for those who have the S2 and then say I'm entitled because I reminded you about your own promise. Anyways, of to another week of 12 hours hard labor for some wages. To bad you read my comment while in a really bad mood I guess. Cheers anyway.

Thanks for the awesome video. Can you tell me the height of the unit when the lid is open? I want to make a hutch for my desk to store stuff on and block some of the light. Any info would be great. Thanks
@GeekDetour5 днів тому
Thank you! When you open the LID, 70cm in total height is enough to have the lid rotated 90° (so, horizontal) and it stays well in this position. To raise it even further, you need more than 70cm. You need extra 10cm to the back of the printer.

Holes are because you have bubbles in the vat

Not so sure… I already printed with resin that was completely still in the VAT, completely without bubbles, but in the very top layer of the print, I saw those tiny holes. It’s not along the print, nor under the build plate.

I think Elegoo had a different vision in mind: on their promotional video they put the fingers in the space between the upper part and the part that goes in the resin - which would be safer… but I never do it myself… I talked to them about it. Maybe they can do something about it. If not, I have a Mod for it in my mind 🤣

Manoel, eu ADORO minha S4.

Yes, I washed the pieces and the build plate with IPA, spraying
@therealjonaswp6029 днів тому
@@GeekDetour thank you :) will be doing that as well - brilliant idea!
@GeekDetour9 днів тому
Yeah, when I print something small, I find it easier to just spray it a few times, let it drop, spray more… specially because my cleaning station in the end was quite dirty. I am changing the alcohol now
@therealjonaswp6029 днів тому
@@GeekDetour sounds like a good idea :) anything that helps getting those small pieces off the bed without damaging them. You are the first one I’ve seen who takes that approach with the spray. :)
@GeekDetour9 днів тому
Oh, the spray doesn’t help to take them off. It is just cleaning. I take them off with the spatula and giving it a hit with a tool.
@Portesel9 днів тому
Looks interesting, does it need a special type of resin ? (the "V2.0" resin they list as add-on)
@GeekDetour9 днів тому
Nope. I actually used two resins that theoretically should have been to the trash already… Way expired. The first one is 4 years old 🤣
A couple of questions. Did they go back to a lead screw? Or is it a ballscrew? Looks like a leadscrew but I have a hard time believing that. How much resin do you think you can fit in the vat with the tilt function on? Hoping the absolute max is 1L or more.
@GeekDetour10 днів тому
Hi there! It is indeed a normal, trapezoidal, LeadScrew - not a ballscrew. And for sure it is less than a 1L
@generationace10 днів тому
@@GeekDetour Thanks so much for the quick response! That's so disappointing they went back to a lead screw! This blows my mind. I was going to refresh my farm with the ultra's and this may actually be a deal breaker for me. Ballscrews are so much more reliable and durable than lead screws in my experience. I wonder if there's a way to mod this unit to upgrade it to a ballscrew.
@GeekDetour9 днів тому
FauxHammer has a point in his review: on the Saturn 4 Ultra, the Build Plate travels much less, it actually just moves up when printing, not back and forth anymore. The repetitive motion is done by the tilt-release mechanism. So, the LeadScrew is probably good enough. The ballscrew could be completely overkill.
@Soundbrigade10 днів тому
I know this is an old video, but maybe the most honest one I've seen so far. Opening an iPod isn't done during a coffee break. It took me two years. I used my iPod (Gen6) when I was working but when I retired it was just lying around until I picked up and couldn't get it to work - dead battery??? Ordered a new battery and started to pry the iPod open but gave up until I started again just a few weeks ago. In the process I had broken the metal fram inside, the screen and the front and back of the player were badly scratched and bent. Now I have gotten a new fancy body in a coooool purple colour with new clickwheel, screen, metal frame, battery and a SSD and will get on assembling the iPod but the connector for the ribbon cable to the screen is slightly broken (a small piece broke loose) and the 128GB SDD was a 256GB disc when I unpacked it ... will it work?! I also got a third (I ordered a working iPod too ...) iPod that also need some TLC so I have a new front and clickwheel and battery on the way. Parts can be found on AliExpress too. Decided to go for a blue front and yellow clockwheel as it happens to be the colour of the Swedish and Ukrainian flags. Also ordered the correct "can openers" and I know how to open the darn thing without breaking it.
@GeekDetour10 днів тому
Yeah, the first time you do it - specially without good information - it is not hard to break the clip strip 🤷♂️ About the ribbon cables, I bet you can still find replacements for them. My iPod is still working since I made this video (more than 5 years ago 🤯). Good luck on your iPod projects!!!
@Tankbrusher10 днів тому
How did you test if that latching mechanism is "perfect every time", didn't see a dial test indicator - just curious because it's a feature on a part of the printer I had trouble with in the past on other machines - overall repeatability.
@GeekDetour10 днів тому
You have a point: I didn’t use a needle dial to test for tolerance between each insert. What I know is: the old mounts (the ones with the ballheads) you could feel everytime you inserted it, they would rest in different positions and the paper tests indicated that the position was slightly different. The way this one on the Saturn 4 is machined is very different than that. It rests on a completely flat surface and you feel it. Also, the springs on the build plate guarantee the contact against the screen. So, yeah, even if it has any variation, the whole system actually worked fine for me perfectly in my test prints without the usual fussing that I was so (sadly) used to do. @FauxHammer just released his review - he printed way more than I did, and his results are the same: it just prints great and easy.
@FauxHammer10 днів тому

@GeekDetour10 днів тому
Hi Ross! How are you doing man?! I am anxious to know your take on the Saturn 4 Ultra - I’ll check now if you finally published it. I am excited about this one because I think it made Resin 3D printing quite easier than before. I never liked the bed leveling with the ball head. And the price is superb. Now I’ll watch yours.
@GeekDetour10 днів тому
Oh, @FauxHammer, did you ever get the bubbles in your Rooks or other models, on the top layer? On other resin printers?
@FauxHammer9 днів тому
@@GeekDetour I had no bubbles in any of my prints. I just looked now and I have 16 models sat next to me all sans bubble!
@ajc447710 днів тому
Less height on Z, a lead screw instead of a ball screw. I would have run at this machine if it had the same build height as the 3 and a heated tank. I think they (mostly) missed the mark with this machine and I'm hoping the 5 will be better next year.
@GeekDetour10 днів тому
Oh, sure, the iPhone 16 will also be better than the current iPhone 15 (usually, hopefully). The Saturn 4 is an exciting machine because some changes are very welcomed (the lid, the latch-quick-release and printing without needing to adjust anything), all of that for a very accessible price. These are reasons enough for many people to get a newer printer. For people that are happy, lets say, with their Saturn 3, maybe it doesn't justify the upgrade.
