German Soldiars had an allowence to smoke 6 Cigarettes a day. And they only got a new package if they returned the old empty one. Thats why at the end if the got captured the asked "American Cigaretttes please" bc Dresden was firebombed and the CIG factory gone so they couldn get any at the end of the war

All I know that in the movie "Downfall", there is a man named Adolf Hitler aka Dolfy, who refuses to believe that he died on April 30th, 1945, he refuses to realize that he lived in an Underground Bunker in Berlin, and being mocked by his generals and called as a "Poor Old Man". His archnemesis is Hermann Fegelein, who inflicts antics on Dolfy on a daily basis.

Older bicycle safety helmets had similar problems as the sharp klunky strap buckle could cut your neck or face. Ultimately, bike helmets drew so much attention away from missing front brakes, that they indirectly did more harm than good.

Audy Murphy was also not a big man. This technique probably helped him control the rise.

When people want to ban a particular story from being told, you know it's pretty close to the truth.

I’m no arms expert, but I do enjoy going to the range. I was told if you want to learn the 3 point stance with a sling is to watch Val in The Ghost and the Darkness. The way he also handles a rifle there is truly an instructor’s dream.

This is a technique that can still be utilized today on modern rifles with slings. It's mostly used when firing from odd positions or when posted up on barricades. The sling is gripped to pull the rifle into the shoulder and in certain positions the rifle can rest on your balled fist like an improvised monopod.

I used to fire my Garand in similar fashion wrapping the sling around my arm and using it as a foregrip.

Holding the sling like that does absolutely nothing. The sling has to be wrapped around the wrist in order to stabilize it. But only for long shots. And it stays slung around the soldier.

Years ago I meet an ME109 pilot. He had 5 kills, 2 british 3 soviet before he was shot down and taken prisoner by the soviets. That's a story for another day. But his first kill was a spitfire. He said after I shot him down I watched him bail out and some luft ground crewman picked him up and brought him to the airfield. When I landed I meet him and the British fellow came up and shook my hand and said "jolly good shooting ol chap." He told me they had no grudges against each other, they were both happy that the dog fight ended with both living to tail the story. The airmen truly had more respect for each other then the other branches did. They understood each other.

the purpose of this disrespect in the film was to build the protagonist/antagonist fervor in the film, Major Powers was supposed to appear to be the consummate asshole unfit for his job. the actor managed to portray that to a T. (don't hate on the actor, remember, he's not playing himself).

It was a joint effort that gets lost in film. But that’s ok. We were allies, we were on the same team, I reckon I wouldn’t have given a shit if I was an American or British regiment soldier and have had advanced and captured an emplacement on D-Day. I don’t think our boys on either side gave a shit either on that day too.
