It’s always struck me as odd that Nero, who was obviously obsessed with art and aesthetic beauty, would allow himself to be depicted as a bloated degenerate. One would have imagined that his artistic sensibilities would not permit his own image to be associated with such ugliness

This lady ACTS and SPEAKS like she KNOWS.... Nero was a real monster. He insisted that we lay on our faces and worship him as a god. She slanders the valuable messages from the past. Helping to pave the way for new Tyrants. History, forgotten.

Two years up and two comments, I'm commenting for year number three! Lol. "Particular 'ify' personality", I love it! When I was a kid I watched the King of Kings on TV once every five years or so. I always wondered if he wasn't a victim of people's hates for homosexuals sissies. This is back in the late 70's/early 80's with me so, there were no terms about it back then like now, and most people agreed with that hate then, at least in the small town I was from. So in the film... When they took Jesus there to have him killed and Nero does not kill him, but only was fascinated by him and was amused at him sending him to Pilate did in fact make me wonder if he wasn't an okay cat... Just saying...

Nero was not even born yet during the time of Jesus and Jesus never went to Rome. The story you're thinking of is Jesus getting sent to Herod Antipas, the Tetrarch of Galilee and the same guy who killed John the baptist.

@@Ken_Scaletta but yeah, you're correct i was thinking of young Herod, i guess maybe the actor played Neo also in a different film and I got confused, sorry! Lol
@Ken_Scaletta

@@ianstukenborg437 Nothing to be sorry about. It's kind of an obscure fact. Mel Gibson's movie also makes Antipas look very Nero-esque.

No, but Historia Civilis does use some of Tom Holland's works as sources (e.g. "Persian Fire" by Tom Holland) for the Spartan Constitution video.

On the arrow testing part: Yeah that level of protection is quite good for the times they were made, as Archers weren't as common as they were later on. Slingers and Javelin-throwers were quite common themselves at this time, and if this armor protects from an arrow then its safe to say that it will protect from a slinger's stone. But i am far more skeptical about it defending from a skirmisher's Javelin, given that they are heavier and carry a bit more force despite its shorter range. Did you ever test that? Im curious as to how it would hold up.

I wonder if the Samnite triple disk armor was to immitate the warriors body ("Beer Belly") or if the outward sloping means early people understood that slopes could cause wouldbe heavy blows to be deflected?

Concern about the sharpness debate; What about flint or stone arrowheads? I'm no expert on the Classical Period but surely some tribes used stone arrowheads at least occasionally. I know stone tools were used around the viking age. Stone arrows can be sharpened to surgical tool level.

This is very cool. I have been working on a book with a medieval country with little metal armor who wears largely cloth and leather and this taught me a lot.
