Nice review, but I am disappointed in the New Max I’m a movie , tv show person. And all this other stuff is taken over . They canceled a lot of good shows and took off a lot of great movies and shows for all this reality Tv . I mean don’t get me wrong it’s ok but it’s just becoming too much some great shows are being canceled and now they plan on another price increase soon . I’m try to decide is it still worth it.

Just bizarre how they didnt launch this on a dedicated box..or make an app available for download via Apple, Google etc. I mean you can get boxes from Talk Talk, EE and Virgin which pretty much have the same functionality but also allow you add packs and channels.

It’s time for everyone to cancel Paramount+. All they care about is ads ads and more ads. I watch more ads than I do the actual show or movie. Everybody should boycott Paramount+ until they stop with the greed.

Thanks for pointing out the two very different options. Regarding pricing, as of now, the DIRECTV Over Internet looks cheaper. DIRECTV Over Internet with 2-year contract has monthly cost of $105.98 all-in ($75 Choice +$15 ARS +$16 sports) for 24 months, compared to DIRECTV Stream's cost of $123.98 monthly all-in ($109 Choice + $15 Sports) for no-contract. DIRECTV Stream has small discounts during first 1 to 3 months, but after discounts expire, the cost of DIRECTV Stream will be $18/month more than DIRECTV Over Internet. While there are termination fees with the DIRECTV Over Internet contract if you want to end early, without a contract, on the other hand DIRECTV Stream has no guarantee that the price won't go up. And DIRECTV always increases their prices; I had DIRECTV Satellite (canceling now) and in 2023 the price increased twice by a total of $25/month.

It's true that the Choice plan would be $105.98 ($84.99+$15/mo equipment + $16/mo RSN fee) with DirecTV over the internet. But with DirecTV Stream, you wouldn't need to pay the extra $15 for the Sports Pack unless you wanted some of the secondary channels like NFL Redzone or FS2 that aren't included with DirecTV over the internet's Choice plan, either. At first glance, the landing page for the Sports Pack might give the impression that you would need it to get the RSNs or channels like NFL Network. But you don't need it to get them. Which highlights my biggest problem with DirecTV- their marketing is confusing, seemingly by design so customer will spend more than they really need to. So as of this writing DirecTV Stream is now ~$3 extra than DirecTV over the internet for the Choice plan. And while its true that you're locked in to the slightly lower pricing for two years with a 2 year contract, what might a customer have to deal with if in the Fall they discover (in a likely scenario) that something like Bally Sports is no longer available when they have 12 months left on their contract? At minimum, I think customers should be aware of their plan options, and I don't think DirecTV is forthcoming with the choices available.

As a Roku customer, I have started to see this. I’m not against it as it doesn’t interfere with selecting apps. However, if it blocks me from selecting apps till the ad is over, then we’ll have a problem.

The honest truth is that most local channels in the US are owned by big media companies such as Nexstar & Sinclair that care more about Retransmission Fees than actual viewers. Sad but true. PBS affiliates stream for free on the PBS App. NBC & CBS affiliates streams on Peacock & Paramount Plus on the higher priced plan. I have a feeling if the if there was a streaming service that had all local affiliate channels & paid Retransmission Fees it would probably cost $20-$30 a month which many people would consider expensive. A good outdoor antenna is the best way to receive local channels for free.

Realizing now there’s a relevant detail I missed (which is a little weird to be honest). You can’t just download the Freely app. You have to purchase a TV that comes pre-installed with it. So far it’s just 2024 Hisense 4K TVs that were sold in the U.K. So short answer… no.

@ Canada my renewal is being bumped to ad-based etc. I will not renew, many other options available, including Prime which I have anyways. Not interested in ad-watching (mostly even avoid UKposts) and not worth the extra $$ to not have ads. Plus the location based lock is bizarre. Surely the technology exists to link to me not a GPS location … If my online bank has figured it out, then Netflix should be able to as well. I think this is the beginning of the end of Netflix as market leader. No real innovation proposed here, & not much except lower price (for less value btw) for the subscriber, very one-sided benefit for Netflix.
