I fully agree, no training wheels! My grandson found balance and braking by himself and managed at the age of 2 yrs. At the same time he learned pedalling on a small three wheeled tractor. After 4 months he gradulated to pedalbiking in 30 minutes.

New BMC Roadmachine Two easily beats the Defy. The Roadmachine has full Integrated internal cables and downtube storage for $5,500. The Roadmachine Two comes with Ultegra Di2 and has a more advanced frameset than the Giant Defy. The Defy Advanced Pro 2 is $600 less at $4,900, but it also only has 105 Di2 and the Roadmachine has Ultegra Di2. The Defy also does not have integrated internal cabling and no downtube storage. And the cheap in house Giant 36 CF wheels simply do not make up for all its deficiencies versus the Roadmachine Two. If you want the Defy with Ultegra Di2 like the Roadmachine the price jumps to $6,500, $1,000 more than the Roadmachine Two. Plus, even this higher priced Defy still does not have full internal cabling and no downtube storage. Sorry, the Roadmachine Two easily beats the Defy Advanced pro for not only having a better more advanced frame set, but it is actually a better $ value given what you actually get versus the $4,900 Defy Advanced Pro 2 or the $6,500 Advanced Pro 1. 😀

Do we know what length stem he is running on the BMC twostroke? I'm building the exact same bike except with a carbon geometry specific fork, sized down from my usual medium frame to small however the reach is still 425 so was thinking a 50mm stem. Seems he is using something longer

Ahem.... are we not going to point at all the electronic suspension systems on the podiums at Ft Bill? ;) Very dominate in XCO last season, and then 4/5 on the mens elite at the first DH? Gonna be interesting to see how many wins are taken on the one setting suspension bits.

I've used mountain bikes at different price ranges. And I'll tell anyone new to cycling this. You 100% do not need to spend thousands on any bike unless you're competing professionally in trail/enduro events. The difference in price is saving 1 or 2 seconds, and that has no real purpose in the real world. 1 to 2 grand is the best price point

I think this is pretty unfair on hardtails seeing as you can massively improve hardtails. And you chos one of the crappest hardtails on the market to compare to some fairly good full suspension bikes. I'd still happily choose something like a Nukeproof Scout or Ragley Mmmbop over most full suspension bikes.

I have a hard tail Marin San Quentin 2 that cost $1400 and it’s been a great bike, has a dropper post and well worth it for anyone new looking to buy, though it’s pronounced with accent at the end, ma-RIN 🙂
