So 5 years later on how has the tent held up? Do you still use it? Any problems? Give us an update.
@ckossel6 місяців тому
Still running strong. I use it on solo trips occasionally, but I do have a roof top tent on my truck that also gets majority use. But my little kids use this to camp in the backyard for fun. They love it and I love the durability they put it through.
@ZebraActual6 місяців тому
@@ckossel thanks for the reply! I been debating getting this tent for an upcoming motorcycle camping trip.

I just picked up a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro with the Magnuson and those powered and illuminated side boards. I highly recommend both. Funny enough, the supercharger didn't come with a cold air intake, but it's amazing anyway.

Dude I'm just getting into backpacking and have watched a TON of videos of what to buy and all my options and it seems like all the bigger channels review these $500+ tents and equipment. This is the most honest and reasonable review I have seen. Thanks for a sime and honest review with no BS and not pushing for subscribers. I really appreciate it!

Glad to help!!! It’s a really good tent for the price. Still use it all the time even when I own a $400 tent. Glad this was helpful! Happy adventuring and thanks for the feedback 👍🏼

How heavy is it? Did you waterproof it?
@ckossel3 роки тому
Hiram Gonzalez yes I used Nikwax and it’s roughly 5lbs for the full trail weight. Not Ultralight by any means, yet doable. Featherweight if you do just footprint and rain fly.
@hiramgonzalez13673 роки тому
Gearizona Thank you for your reply. No, it isn’t lightweight tho. I just received mine yesterday, I’ll use it next week and I’ll let you know my experience. I’ll water treat this tent before hit the trail as preventive measure. Thank you again!
@richjames40943 роки тому
Im a fan on this tent. Easy set up, and really, the quality you get for the price of the tent, is great. I think they have gone up on the price slightly in the last year or so, but it is still at a good price price for what you get.

A very well done review! I have this tent and I really like it as well. I researched many tents before going with the Zion, and have no regrets. Thank you for putting together a great review of what I also feel, is a tent well-worth the money. Keep it up! (btw, Amazon is now selling these for just under $100)

It’s a great tent for the value. It will not disappoint on your expectations and wallet. Usually with tents, most features are similar across the board. Usually you are paying by ounces. Heavier they are the cheaper, but when you can find a good mixed bag - it’s good value. Good luck! 👍🏼

Papa Romes Outdoors glad you got to spend some time in the Southwest. These tents are great for the price. Their sleeping bags I think are even a better deal. Enjoy the Adirondacks, haven’t been there since I was a child.

@atapuma57565 років тому
Good review! Would you suggest it for harsh weather condition? I'm italian and I usually go hiking in the Alps which means very unstable weather... Can have 35 degress or heavy storm with strong wind and even snow in the same day in summer
@ckossel5 років тому
El Fonque I think cold is relative upon the person and tolerance and will matter most on the sleeping bag. However winds and rain/snow I think you should be good as long as everything is secure. Too heavy winds will probably be hard on any tent. Just make sure you are inspecting your gear before heading out. Setup and spray it down to be sure you don’t have any leaks... through time in those conditions it would be a standard process in my book.
@bakerstreet1014 роки тому
I found that gaps between the rain fly and the tub allow a lot of wind to come in. What seasons is this meant for? I felt cold in the 60s F, I would guess it could be too cold in the autumn/high altitude.
@ckossel4 роки тому
JA YE well it’s all subjective on what makes one feel cold and sleeping bag type, but I do see your point on the gaps for sure.
@mikelees50935 років тому
The rain fly looks to small for the tent.

I think around 2.3kg for those who are curious. Not the lightest 2 person tent but you can easily transform the weight with removing certain elements of the setup.

Bradley Johnson I went with a Klymit Static V Luxe and I use Hyke and Byke Tall 32 degree down tent.
@seinundzeiten5 років тому
what is Toyota/s problem with the shortened beds?
@ckossel5 років тому
seinundzeiten it depends on the need of the consumer. I don’t need a longer bed as I am just throwing simple hardware supplies, groceries, golf clubs etc. in there. Plus, I already have a trailer that can be used for oversized items. Just depends on the need. I also live in Arizona where it’s mandatory for me to make sure my truck fits in the garage. 🔥🌞
@michaelt31725 років тому
I am trying to decide between this tent or the Alps Lynx 2 person tent. The Alps tent has less mesh on it which makes me feel like it would be better for colder weather. Thoughts?
@ckossel5 років тому
Michael T I also looked at that one as well... I went with H&B because of the cause and warranty. I think your right that the “less mesh” may be a little better for cold weather, but I am not sure really it’s that dependent on it. You need a good sleeping pad and bag for warmth - period. My concerns would be weight, space, wind and rain primarily on a tent.
@michaelt31725 років тому
@@ckossel Yeah. I ended up getting the Zion 2. So far, I am really liking it. I set it up in my house and it goes up very easily. Only issue I have with it is the pack size, but that is kind of what I expected with how large the tent is for a 2 person. How do you pack yours for backpacking trips because I was thinking of just ditching the sack altogether and just rolling the tent up and using a belt to hold it together and maybe pack it externally since the stuff sack is a bit long. I am surprised by how good the quality is though
@ckossel5 років тому
Michael T so I carry a Gregory 48L pack and there are two clips for a “sleeping pad” but I place it there. To be honest I too think it could be made a little bit lighter, but that size seems to all be around 5lbs. I go hammock if I am going super light.

@Menkalo5 років тому
I’m going back and forth between this tent and their Yosemite 2 tent. Any suggestions?
@ckossel5 років тому
Well I think its really based on personal preference as they are very comparable tents. The Yosemite is a bit lighter, but has two separated poles with setup; whereas, the Zion tent is a tad heavier, but also has 1 pole for setup and is has a bigger length and width - easier for setup with 1 person backpacking in my opinion. I went through the same decision and went with the Zion based on design shape and I like having more room on the outside angles. The Yosemite seems to be nice for taller people as the peak height gives you more room in the middle (3 inches). To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with either tent and Hyke & Byke customer service and satisfaction is top notch from what I have discovered. @hykeandbyke #hykeandbyke

Hey man awesome video!! One quick question for you.. do you carry around passengers often? Like is the back seat used much for passengers? I am having trouble deciding on a pickup truck. Purchasing a new one within the next couple of years and am always on the fence as to whether I should go crew cab or regular cab (I'm sure I'll be driving the truck alone many times). Can't stand "Extended" cab trucks as I would rather my passengers have a full back seat. Thanks!
@ckossel7 років тому
Yes I needed the crewmax, as I have 2 carseats in there and the added space is super helpful. If you dont have kids, you could probably do the regular access cab.
